Pros: The first 30 minutes are as close o real combat as a voyeur can come.
Cons: The corny ending where Tom Hanks dies almost derails what is otherwise a gritty and near perfect story about the horror and futility of war
Every now and again a movie comes along that takes the viewer into an uncomfortable place and shakes their views of what they thought war is about. saving Private Ryan blows away four decades of revisionism of just how awful war on the ground is.
