Pros: true to life, historically significant Cons: underused actors, no substantial emotion, detachment of plot from story
On the Western front of the Civil War, a battle raged between Border States Kansas and Missouri, as they fought for survival in what would equate to guerilla warfare. Much of the battle here started a few years before the Civil War broke out, with those ...

Pros: Luscious surroundings, decent performances, doesn't "Hollywood" around with history Cons: Tendency to get disjointed at times, Limited publicity and theatrical run
Let's see…
A movie about the nearly obscure Civil War pro Southern guerrilla movement against the Union army around the Kansas-Missouri border (think PLATOON from the Viet Cong P.O.V., Civil War style) directed by a guy from Taiwan (Ang Lee)...

Pros: action, love, romance, honor, gun fights, Cons: none
Ride With The Devil was a novel written by Daniel Woodrell and later made into a movie by James Schamus. This movie released in November of 1999 was 138 minutes long. It was also rated R because of the violence as well as some sexual scenes. It will not ...

Pros: Excellent directing, great script, strong cast Cons: It is too historically accurate to be "politically correct"
"Ride With the Devil" had it all to be a major motion picture of significance - it had a highly acclaimed director in Ang Lee ("The Ice Storm" - "Sense and Sensibility"), a cast of up-and-coming young actors of talent (Tobey...

Pros: story, directing, great battles Cons: slow paced, shallow characters
I am taking a Civil War class this semester and my professor says that this movie shows an example of the kind of fighting that was typical in the Trans-Mississippi region of the Civil War. It shows the Guerrilla warfare that was typical for this area,...

Pros: Exciting, beautifully photographed, and a good look at a neglected segment of Civil War history. Cons: Main characters are not well developed.
I meant the review title as a plus, as this very watchable movie is about some very unpleasant incidents of the Civil War, namely the vicious guerrilla warfare that took place in Missouri and Kansas. The countryside is in many ways beautiful, which ...

Pros: Showed how life could of been in that era. Cons: Didn't need to focus so much on the master-slave issue.
Ride Like The Devil may not be the best, appropriate title for this movie. Something more like; "How The Bushwhackers Lost," or my favorite, "KS vs. MO" Nonetheless, when you watch this movie watch it for what it represents. Not in...

Pros: Very realistic. Well acted. Cons: Graphic violence and blood everywhere.
In all fairness, this movie has some great parts in it. The action scenes are very well done, and some of the drama is well acted, but I found parts of this movie just plain boring and the ending is lame. Not sad, just lame.
It's about a...
