Pros: Interesting characters, editing & soundtrack. Cons: Creates expectations that aren't delivered.
OK, so I hated "Boogie Nights". But I must admit that the cast of "Magnolia" + the previews were enough to lure me back to Paul Thomas Anderson (writer/producer/director) a second time. And it's not that I didn't like...

Pros: quality characters and acting Cons: some people (not myself I might add) might be turned off by not one but two Supertramp songs in the soundtrack
This is a long review but it is well worth the read, especially if you're looking for me to explain to you what this movie is really all about.
Everyone's telling you to see Magnolia, and so you do. You watch and watch and watch and watch (and...

Pros: Tom Cruise gives the performance of his life. Cons: Too bad we didn't have as much fun watching this swill as the director had making it.
Director/Writer Paul Thomas Anderson tries to recreate the success of his "Boogie Nights" (his only other real film to date) with this idiotic joke of a time-waster, "Magnolia." Ouch.
Perhaps you've read the comments of...

Pros: Excellent acting, great interaction, great writing Cons: Length of film, plot might lose some people
For anyone who has experienced Paul Thomas Anderson's previous effort Boogie Nights and was expecting something similar in nature, they might find themselves perhaps disappointed at first due to the film's style and content. It could be easy to say that...

Pros: great cast, cinematography and direction Cons: sometimes confusing, bizarre
Well. I'm really at a loss for words as to how to write a review of this movie. I thought that I should, though, because I just saw it yesterday and I'm still trying to get it. That's not a bad, thing, now. However, be warned, if you are one of those...

Pros: Good cast and story line Cons: too long
John C. Reilly is one of those actors most people recognize, but can’t place a name to the face. Most people, that is, except Paul Thomas Anderson, the writer-director of Hard Eight, Boogie Nights and the new movie Magnolia. He not only knew Reilly’s...

Pros: Superb Acting, Great Storyline Cons: 3 Hours, but it goes by fast.
When it comes to the end of the year, one begins to look back at the year in film and try and pick the best movie, best actor, best actress and see how his picks will do against the major awards (globes, oscars). As I began to look back, I thought that...

Pros: tom cruise Cons: terrible language
Magnolia was definately an artistic movie, but wasn't what I expected. Everyone that I talked to who had seen it before I did said that it was a great movie. I was slightly disappointed with the whole thing. The music was way too loud for me and...

Pros: Brilliant acting; complex and challenging plot Cons: It's a long movie.
Let's face it. Magnolia is a LONG movie. It is an engrossing movie, but not so much so that one forgets
the time, the theater, the prospect of its ending.
Magnolia strains against our fractured attention spans, requiring that we keep...

Pros: good concept, but... Cons: boring, pointless
i went into magnolia knowing very little about it. i hadn't even seen a preview on tv or read a review. i had heard some about the movie from others, & from the general concept (seemingly unrelated stories all coming together at the end), i thought...

Pros: nonstop intrigue, superb acting & music Cons: over 3 hrs. long
The acting is superb, the soundtrack is groovin, and the plot line is intricate yet simple. All in all, Magnolia serves as a model for exemplary character development. Sure, it is freakin long.. and my suggestion is to empty your system of all bodily...

Pros: Anderson's beautiful direction, striking cinematography, the finest screenplay of the last ten years, and a marvelous ensemble cast including William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, Jason Robards, Julliann Moore, and Tom Cruise make this one of the best films of Cons: Absolutely none
Magnolia, directed by P.T. Anderson (Boogie Nights, Hard Eight), is an unusual type of film. It encompases nine stories. Some of the stories overlap and connect, some do not.
Anderson uses a very large ensemble cast, which includes William H....

Pros: moving and entertaining Cons: a little too glib in places
This film, written, directed, and produced by Paul Thomas Anderson in 1999, details the story of a day in the San Fernando Valley. The opening sequence is a brilliant set of short pieces about amazing coincidences, narrated by Ricky Jay. From there,...

Pros: Everything about the film. Cons: none
Paul Thomas Anderson has struck again. The American public is extremely lucky to have such an ingenius filmmaker and have him so early in his career with so much more promising work to come.
"Magnolia" is nothing short of a...

Pros: It eventually does end Cons: Too many to list here
I had very high expectations for this movie, and I doubt I could have been more disappointed. All I can say about it is: What a bore-a-thon! Now, I'm sure there are those who will say that I didn't "get it," or that it was "too...
