Pros: Spectacular in Every Regard Cons: The towel in Tom Cruise's underwear (Should've Fired the Boogie Nights Prosthetics guy)
Do You Have Love in Your Heart for Magnolia?
Is that your FINAL answer?
PT Anderson has made a film as transcendent and moving as I've ever experienced.
It has caused me to completely reevaluate my favorite films, and to, in...

Pros: brilliant acting, writing, direction and music Cons: none at all
Chance. Fate. Coincidence. "And the book says we may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us". These are the themes that run under and around Magnolia, the dizzying new film from writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson (Hard...

Pros: different, interactive, surprising Cons: confusing, not for everyone
I went to see Magnolia just a few days ago. I keep looking back at the movie and thinking, "I really liked that show, but I'm not sure why."
Magnolia is demented, confusing, and full of twisted relationships. The show starts out with...

Pros: Brilliant, well-acted, a great movie. Cons: It takes a certain kind to enjoy it.
There are probably already many grad students in film studies dissecting Magnolia, dividing it into its component parts. I understand the temptation; I want to know what Paul Thomas Anderson was thinking when he wrote it. What does it all mean? I...

Pros: Wonderfully thought provoking, interesting plots, plot twists, surprises, and intricacies. Cons: Three hours long and dark in substance---though very light at another level....these are not necessarily "Cons". Just considerations to take in before viewing.
I cannot believe that people walked out of this movie. Clocking in at 180 minutes, perhaps it was just too much life at once for some individuals. It certainly isn't a lighthearted movie that one would see in a group of friends, and perhaps not a movie...

Pros: Emotionally riveting, intense dialog, fantastic story Cons: Many people won't look deep enough to get it
We may be thru with the Past but the Past isn't thru with us. Therein lies what master director Paul Thomas Anderson is pointing us towards. Magnolia is crossroads of several troubled lives, some intersecting, others just moving in parallel to each...

Pros: The cast and crew of Boogie Nights ... Cons: ... without the charm or economy (ahem) thereof ...
There were some who accused Paul Thomas Anderson of self-indulgent excess in making Boogie Nights. They were wrong, Anderson's sophomore effort being essentially Goodfellas with porn stars (an elaborately intercut epic about an extralegal, pseudofamily...

Pros: Deep, probing character study of people dealing with regret Cons: Not for everyone
I just recently saw this movie, and with everything I had heard about it, I was quite interested in how I would feel about it. It has been strange reading people's epinions on this movie, very black or white. This movie is either a love or a hate, and...

Pros: Improbable, slow, overacted plot Cons: Great visuals
Boogie Nights promised that Paul Thomas Anderson would be a brilliant filmmaker; sure, Boogie fell apart after the Sister Chrisitan scene, but Anderson's next movie would demonstrate that Orson Wells II had arrived. Instead, Magnolia, two parts...

Pros: Brilliant, insightful look into human despair and grace Cons: Unnecessary, disturbing sexuality
Writing a review for Magnolia is comparable to discussing the chord progressions of an opera. No review can ever describe the head-on collision this film will give to its viewers. But I write this nonetheless, because it was one of the most powerful...

Pros: incredibly original story, Cruise, Reilly, Moore, Macy and Walters performances Cons: not for everyone, a bit long for most tastes
"The book says we may be through with our past, but our past is not through with us"
There are some things in this world that simply have to be seen, in order to be understood. There are those visions and experiences which...

Pros: need a box of tissues Cons: incredible music
I only saw this movie because I fell in love with the soundtrack. My sister had told me about this wonderful artist named Aimee Mann and I immediately went out to but the first cd that I could find. I happened to have come across the soundtrack to this...

Pros: It wasn't four hours long Cons: Too Many to Mention
Well, here goes I was feeling so incensed after seeing Magnolia and seeing all those critical raves that I couldn't wait to sit down and give my own very negative opinion of what I consider a Robert Altman ripoff and a very poor one at that I must have...

Pros: Direction, Screenplay, Acting Cons: Stanley Spector
The biggest problem with Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia is not in the film itself, but in its prologue. Once the first ten minutes have rolled by, it is nearly impossible for the film to go anywhere beyond that prologue. The prologue was incredible,...

Pros: An excellent cast. Cons: The ending was too predictable.
I really had big hopes for Magnolia. The trailers really sparked my interest, seeing all the talent, the unusual style, and knowing that this movie was written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights).
Magnolia is a very strange...
