Pros: brilliant directing, unusual and genius screenplay...different Cons: it is so odd...you may not be able to understand it the first time
Have an identity problem?

Pros: strong performances, intelligent story, totally original Cons: the abstract story is probably not for everyone, requires thinking
One of the most original films this year. A film that uses inspired casting with excellent performances to really stretch your mind beyond the ordinary. John Malkovich gives yet another strong performance playing himself yet in a way we've never seen...

Pros: Good acting, and very novel idea. Cons: Strange...very strange.
Being John Malkovich is one of the strangest movies I've seen in awhile. I originally went to go see it because I'm a big fan of John Cusack, and John Malkovitch. Basically John Cusack finds a portal that leads into John Malkovitch's head, and begins...

Pros: Great cast, superb premise Cons: Might be a little weird for some
Craig Schwartz is the best marionette puppeteer in New York City. Unfortunately, the market for puppeteering is pretty slim, so Craig takes a job at Lestercorp as a filer, due to his fast hands. Immediately falling in love with an attractive coworker,...

Pros: Original plot, brilliant characters, wonderful acting Cons: much of the "back story" was left out
John Cusak is one of those actors on the periphery of stardom. Sure everyone knows who he is, but he doesn't command the kind of name recognition of a Schwarzenegger or the immediate respect of a McKellen.
This movie, by and far one of the weirder...

Pros: Innovative and off-the wall Cons: too weird for a select few.
I can't remember ever going into a movie, expecting so little and getting so much. "Being John Malkovich" is an incredibly creative film. It is innovative and original. To summarize the plot, "Being John Malkovich" is about a...

Pros: Fantastic cast acting extremely well Cons: None
Wow, what a film! Being John Malkovich is the most inspired, most unique film of 1999. John Cusack proves once again that he's among the most talented actors of our time. Director Spike Jonze casts major stars against type, including Cameron Diaz as...

Pros: Really interesting premise Cons: Low-budget direction
Okay, "Being John Malkovich" is neither the Wellesian masterpiece or philosophical treatise that some people say it is.
It is, however, an entirely original exploration of the meaning of "identity."
The movie is...

Pros: Interesting, good cast, refreshing new concept in film. Cons: A bit confusing plot-wise.
Wow, this movie was like a terrible crash scene. It's horrible but you can't take your eyes off of it! I spent the first half of the movie trying to figure out how they made Diaz look so ugly, mixed with a fascination with Keener's character in...

Pros: Quirkiness, wonderful acting, unique story Cons: VERY weird, Sometimes a little TOO odd
Ok...I have to admit, this is absolutely one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen in my life. I knew that going into it, but yet, the mystique of the movie drew me to it.
"Being John Malkovich" is a hilarious story centered around...

Pros: Spike Jonze' fresh approach to filmmaking Cons: No Flemmer!
Not in the past few years have I seen a movie as witty, hilarious, and entertaining as the Spike Jonze directed "BEING JOHN MALKOVICH". After completely missing the film's one-week run at the cinema, I was forced to wait for its release on...

Pros: It's funny. It's damn funny. A comedy that requires brains. Cons: See above… some people may not wish to bring their brains to a comedy, or may not have brains to bring.
[NOTE: text of a film review for radio. Some details are kind of Australia-specific]
You may have noticed that Christmas is coming. Which means that Boxing Day is also coming. Which means that a great big batch of new films will be opening on...

Pros: It's got great actors in it, and has an outstanding story line. Cons: It is an extremely "out there" story.
This may not be your average movie, but it had the most unique approach to a story I have ever seen! It might not be one of John Cusack and Cameron Diaz's better accomplishments in their careers as actors, but it was definitely worth seeing.

Pros: Its originality Cons: It gets carried away at times.
Ever wish you can be someone else? How about that person you most envy. What if you can step into their mind and see the world as they see it. Or even better, take control of their thoughts and actions. In Being John Malkovich, anything is possible....

Pros: novel idea, good acting, some special effects Cons: suitable for the small screen, this isn't Shakespeare
BEING JOHN MALKOVICH could mark Woody Allen's return to madcap comedy, except Woody Allen had nothing to do with this movie. Still, it's a fascinating bit of whimsy, amusing and insightful, and .... here's the best part, you don't have to like the...
