Pros: Ironic thoughts on many levels. Cons: Slow - have to read subtitles unless you learn some Spanish.
I first saw All About My Mother a few years back – which is quite surprising since if I remember correctly I first inadequately labeled it as a “chick flick”…and I normally avoid those movies unless I’m in the mood to tear apart a film – or...

Pros: An EXCELLENT foreign film with depth Cons: Can be difficult to find in America
Almodovar captures the essence of relationships (non-romantic) between women of all kinds in this expressive work. A wonderful drama in which a mother (Manuela) loses her only son (Esteban) as he tries to get an autograph from his favorite actress...

Pros: superb acting, good story, lovely filming Cons: subtitles... some dialog missed
I probably won't get to see all the nominees for Best Foreign Film this year; we live in a small town where we barely got to see Being John Malkovich before it went to video!
Anyway, I do think this film deserves an Oscar even if I don't know...

Pros: Funny, Moving, Deep. Cons: None, unless you count missing jokes in Spanish (with subtitles).
Almodovar has got to be my favorite foreign film director. He never fails to take 'dark comedy' to new levels, and tackles many VERY offbeat and unpopular issues with finesse and guts! Some of his oldest films could be classified as borderline vulgar...

Pros: Women, Story, Almodovar Cons: Not all can be as good as the first 15 minutes
If this movie was only 15 minutes long it will be the best movie ever. However is longer than that so it is only (only?) one of the best ever. Almodovar gives us the joy of his previous films mixed with his recently acquired maturity. Since "Live...

Pros: A visionary director discovers a newfound sense of maturity. Cons: Not enough people have seen it.
Without dropping any of his usual trademarks (garish colours, campy visuals, drag queens, frazzled women), Spanish writer-director Pedro Almodovar discovers a newfound sense of maturity with All About My Mother. Oscar-winner for Best Foreign Film and...

Pros: probably even better in spanish, but wow, what a great movie. wonderful photography AND an interesting, engaging, unique plot. Very wonderfully Almodovar. i really think it is one of his best yet. Cons: don't sit behind anyone tall - this movie is subtitled. not exactly a plot for everyone
I hesitated, for a while, on commenting on an Almodovar flick - mostly because I was worried about pegging myself as one of those "new media employee Almodovar-film-watching" types Suck's Filler once made fun of.
recently i went on...

Pros: Everything Cons: A couple of actors
*** I remind you that English is not my mother language, so I'd be really thankful if you corrected me any grammar or spelling mistake*** "All about my mother" is one of my three favorite movies, together with "Cenizas del paraíso" ...

Pros: Complex and layered masterpiece Cons: Subtitles for those who don't like subtitles
Sometimes you know it when you are seeing a classic.
It was not easy for me to follow All About My Mother for maybe the first hour. More of a puzzle-why is this happening? What is she doing that? Why does the boy have to die in that auto...

Pros: Funny, insightful meditation on women Cons: If it were in English, Americans would understand even more
This is the foreign language picture you'll be hearing about in the coming awards season. It's the 13th film and best work so far from Spanish film-maker Pedro Almodovar, who gave us unconventional fare like "The Flower of My Secret,"...

Pros: Almodovar's Script/Direction, Themes, Look, Locations, Music, Editing, & Cast. Cons: Nada.
Considered to be Spain's most celebrated director after the late Luis Bunuel, Pedro Almodovar is among one of cinema's most revered and controversial directors. Early films like Matador and La Ley del Deseo (Laws of Desire) reveals ...

Pros: great plot, acting, characters Cons: none
I will not ramble on about how good foreign films can be. For the all hype and praise some get, they can be really disappointing. This movie will move you. It is worth seeing. It is a story that is seldom told in American movies. The characters are real...

Pros: Acting (Cecilia Roth especially), Cinematography, Almodovar Quirks Cons: If you hate Almodovar, then stay away
Several friends saw this movie and immediately called me afterwards. "You'll love it" said one, "Breathtaking" said another. Being such a cynic, I decided to go see it for myself. I'd never seen an Almodovar movie before, but...

Pros: True-to-life relationships. Cons: Reading subtitles.
I don't know how he does it, but Pedro Almodovar has captured the bipolar nature of female relationships.
From a pregnant nun exquisitely to a self-confident transsexual to a grieving mother, Almodovar shows that the complex binds between...

Pros: wonderful, heartfelt, funny film Cons: NONE
All About My Mother is a heartfelt, crazy, hysterically funny film about a broken woman putting everything back together after the death of her son. But the film is so much more than just that. With each minute you're in the theatre, more and more...
