Pros: Billy Crudup falling apart from grief Cons: everything else
Summary: I like Lori Carson's song "Snow comes down" that frames this movie, an implausible mess of a movie that I am surprised has beguiled some of epinions' keenest critics, including its #1 executioner, mangiotto. (I also see that more than a fifth of those ... read more

Pros: Crudup and Connelly; story; presentation Cons: I'm drawing a complete blank
Summary: Young men become very disturbed, even scared, when they watch Keith Gordon’s Waking The Dead, according to Gordon who directed and largely rewrote the screenplay without getting credit. They become so disturbed, while women and older men do ... read more

Pros: Connelly and Crudup are sound. Cons: None of note
Summary: I agree with one statement that one of my fellow reviewers made on epinions. When it comes to using music to set a tone, director Keith Gordon definitely deserves a gold star. For the scene that takes place at Fielding's office towards the end of the ... read more

Pros: Believable Sandra Oh as a Korean massage worker dating Fielding's brother for a Green Card Cons: Draggy plot, unappealing characters, graceless editing, cardboard actors, predictable costuming, poor cinematography
Summary: It's the early 70s and we have an ambitious young man, Fielding Pierce. The name indicates a background of good breeding? He meets Sarah, a do-gooder, perhaps a biblical reference? And they fall in love and she maybe dies. Then it's the 80s and she ... read more

Pros: Crudup, interesting direction & great music Cons: too ambiguous, a little slow
Summary: “Waking the Dead” is a dreamy, slightly muddled story about love, and what happens when it isn’t quite perfect. Directed by Keith Gordon (better known, perhaps, for playing Rodney Dangerfield’s son in “Back to School”), the film succeeds in conveying ... read more

Pros: Powerful acting performance Cons: Storyline doesn't satisfy viewer
Summary: Billy Crudup is becoming an interesting actor who takes risks and plays interesting characters. Just this past weekend I watched his performances in Almost Famous and WAKING THE DEAD. I’ve also recently seen him in Jesus’ Son. All of these roles have ... read more

Pros: Tear-jerker & good performance by Billy Crudup Cons: Can't decide whether it's a tear-jerker, political drama or ghost story - and it's miscast
Summary: Unlike the image-making and double-dealing of recent politically-based films - "The Contender," "Primary Colors," "Wag the Dog" - this is an intimate story about the passions, fears and ambitions that motivate ... read more

Pros: Strong performances by and chemistry between Billy Crudup and Jennifer Connelly. Cons: A thin story.
Summary: Not much happens in Waking the Dead. There are two parallel plot threads, the outcome of one of which is given away at the film's open. But to knock Keith Gordon's adaptation of Scott Spencer's novel on the thinness of its premise is to miss the ... read more

Pros: A strongly acted film of political and romantic idealism in our recent history. Cons: A screenplay that fails to clarify the meaning of the story.
Summary: I came away from Keith Gordon's WAKING THE DEAD reflecting on how political idealism is destroyed by the quixotic nature of American Democracy. At least, this film reveals a soul blown to shards by the shifting events of the last 40 years.
