Pros: Tom Hanks Cons: No Soul
Cast Away
This Tom Hanks movie vehicle is a great Hollywood ride. It was obviously designed to press all the proper emotional buttons. To me this movie was almost scientific in its supreme execution. And therein lies the rub. It wasn’t...

Pros: Hanks. Story. Cons: CGI. Lack of personal growth on island for Hanks
In this contemporary re-reading of Robinson Crusoe, Tom Hanks stars as Chuck Noland, a Federal Express trouble shooter who devotes more of his free time to solving problems at work, rather than his own dilemmas at home with his neglected ...

Pros: Hanks, baby, Hanks Cons: Zemeckis treads new ground but does not break it
Like many a Robert Zemeckis film, Cast Away seems more thoughtful on a second viewing--that is, better laid-out. There is a MucGuffin whose role in the denouement I didn't think was properly foreshadowed on first viewing; turns out it's a...

Pros: This courageous, double-endinged movie is just what a disillusioned cineast needs. Cons: Helen Hunt is lovely, but ultimately unnecessary.
It was the ultimate in knowing self-satire when Tom Hanks characterized himself to Meg Ryan when she believed she was in love with another man (albeit, a man she had never met), in "You've Got Mail" as a "fatty." It is even more fitting and fatefully...

Pros: Excellent plot, great acting by Tom Hanks Cons: None
The human spirit absolutely, positively triumphs over unfathomable adversity as Tom Hanks delivers the most powerful performance of his already brilliant career.
The Importance of Time
FedEx executive Chuck...

Pros: Tom Hanks is the perfect actor for the part, one of Zemeckis' better films Cons: No big surprises, idea would have worked better in book form
Tom Hanks might be the last invincible box-office star – even people like Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson stumble from time to time, but Hanks, man, he got all that nastiness out of the way early on. Bachelor Party, Joe vs. the Volcano, Bonfire of the...

Pros: Great acting, very interesting Cons: Can't think of any
Castaway was everything you would have expected it to be. Tom Hanks does a wonderful job as usual at proving why he is considered one of Americas best actors. Not only does he pull off the interaction with other cast members wonderfully but he does a...

Pros: Very stark and believable. Exellent acting. Cons: Plot a little thin.
After watching Will Smith’s lonely portrayal of the ‘last man on earth’ in I am Legend, I decided to dig through my small collection of DVDs and find Castaway. The similarities between the two enticed me to watch Castaway again, perhaps with a ...

Pros: Hanks' one man acting, Some nice photography on the island, supporting work by the volleyball Cons: Weak ending in civilization, trailer gives away the whole story
I hung back a little on seeing Cast Away. I really didn't want to sit through it much after witnessing the Cliff's Notes version of the plot revealed in the trailers, and I'm not a big fan of Forrest Gump. But word began to leak out...

Pros: Interesting story; outstanding performance by Hanks; some funny and dramatic moments. Cons: Predictable; borders on melodrama at times.
There have been a lot of movies, books and TV shows about people being stranded on a desert island. In most cases the formula is used for comedy or adventure, rarely drama. That's what separates "Cast Away" from all the other stories of the genre, ...

Pros: Survival theme holds your interest Cons: Beyond the island scenes, pretty much the rest of the film
If there's one great American actor who we can safely place into a time capsule, bury in the ground and dig up twenty or thirty years later, it's Tom Hanks. Sure, there are well known actors who contain more talent, make better movies and in some cases...

Pros: Beautifully photographed, Hanks's performance and not a whole lot else. Cons: One implausibility after another, and a central love story that doesn't work.
I was more or less amped to see Cast Away, but should have remembered the Title Pun Rule: Any movie whose title is a pun on the audience's expectations is bound to be problematic, if not just plain bad. In this case "castaway" has been broken up...

Pros: A workable premise -- who doesn't like a "survivor" film? Cons: Missed opportunities to make the movie into something interesting.
There is no doubt that Tom Hanks deserves the acclaim he has earned; he can transform himself into any character, each one believable and multi-layered. But now I am now wondering if his real talent (until recently) was choosing a winning script....

Pros: great performance by Tom, well done effects Cons: some parts taxed credibility
I wasn't planning to review this movie; hey, there are already over 200 reviews of Cast Away on here!! Is there anything else to be said??
Well, YES! I have read several reviews today, and while each one has been well-expressed and brought...
