All-Around Unique

by dfschnei , Jun 19 '01
Pros: great concept, crafty direction, well-thought-out script
Cons: need to pay close attention
Giving you a synopsis of this film would take away from your enjoyment of it. It took me a while to figure out just exactly was going on. Without giving away too much, I will say that this flick is about a man who cannot form NEW memories. Things are...

Memento: Screwing with the mind and loving it.

by Bassmasterld , May 30 '01
Pros: Intricate Plot, Twists and Turns, Fast Action plus Mind consuming, Surprise ending.
Cons: Complicated Plot can leave viewer confused after movie.
Many movies have tried to reach a point in the movie where it can completely baffel and audience, and shock them with an ending so bizarre and unexpected, everyone loves it, and no one saw it comming. Memento is one of the few movies i have seen that...

Make a note of it! Unforgettable!

by p00kiebear , Jun 14 '01
Pros: A unique story idea, an atypical ending, interesting characters
Cons: Some violence, manipulative people taking advantage of a handicap
Even if I had a short term memory disorder, I don't think I would forget this movie.
Finally something interesting to watch. This movie is a twist a minute plot with lots of interesting angles without all the explosions and special effects...

Memento is worth rewinding again...and again...and again...

by baboonvideo , Nov 15 '01
Pros: Start with the masterful execution of a tricky story and move forward.
Cons: It requires your full and constant attention (not necessarily a con)
Truly great cinematic mysteries leave the audience in constant suspense about what is going to happen next. The masterful Memento, however, takes its thrills and story in the opposite direction, with one never sure of what happened first.

The best movie I have ever seen

by burdasingh , Apr 13 '01
Pros: The best movie I have ever seen
Cons: Complex plot - is this a bad thing?
This film is best seen without knowing too much about it. And to do the film justice, I should keep myself from writing much. So, I won't even mention the plot, otherwise the film will be spoiled.

Memento is absolutely brilliant. At the...

"Remember to be yourself..."

by dmeltz , Apr 09 '01
Pros: Haunting, Powerful, Disturbing, Unique and occasionally Funny....
Cons: There are no cons - not a perfect film, but without obvious defects either.
What is identity? What is the one thing that, were it taken away, would deprive you of your identity?

It's got to be memory. In many ways, we are all the sum total of our memories.

Lenny, the protagonist in Memento, has lost his...

Notes Can Be Lost

by swphoenix00 , Oct 22 '01
Pros: Truly innovative story telling method.
Cons: The story telling method might be too distracting for viewers at first.
What if you couldn't remember what you did last month, or last week, or 5 minutes ago? That alone could be a story in the making, but for 'Memento' that's just the beginning. The movie plays like a puzzle, you get all of the pieces, but you aren't...

demented

by xgollum , Jun 03 '01
Pros: Twisted, fascinating, darkly humorous
Cons: convoluted
I heard all about this movie from all over before I finally got to see it, and I have to say, if nothing else, definitely not a let down, which isn't easy to say of many films these days. I go into most movies expecting as little as possible, because...

Is it really memory loss, I keep forgetting

by bmauzey , Jul 06 '01
Pros: A very unique method of plot presentation
Cons: can be a bit tiresome
Justice may be blind, but vengeance, as it turns out, has a very short memory. The latest effort from Christopher Nolan plays in reverse. The protagonist, who is an insurance investigator, is witness to the rape and murder (?) of his wife. In the...

Memento - What a Mind-Bending, Involving Film

by jamthedude , May 25 '01
Pros: Very impressive direction, production, and very mind-bending story.
Cons: If you are not ready to figure this one out, you'll miss the whole thing.
I finally got out to see Memento last night, and it did not disappoint. I hate giving spoilers and endings and even plot, so I will give you general thoughts about the film.
As opposed to what is churned out by Hollywood most of the time, Memento...

Question your perception.

by cirex , May 24 '01
Pros: Intricate plot that incites the viewer to develop his or her own denouement.
Cons: none
Your emotional state and opinion of the world actually plays an integral part in the plot and it's interpretation. My discussions with others who have seen the film prove the wide variety of ways that the mind works to fill in the gaps. The viewer is...

Remember Sammy Jankis

by rollinggrenade , Jun 19 '01
Pros: Intense, well-written, excellent acting, excellent directing, suspenseful and highly intelligent.
Cons: None
Leonard has lost the ability to form new memories following an 'incident.' He'll forget the beginning of a conversation you're having with him halfway into it, he'll forget you no matter how many times you meet him, and he must realize over again every...

"Deja Vu" All Over Again

by ArnieHarris , May 08 '01
Pros: Strikingly original and audacious film concept engrossingly directed and acted.
Cons: Will often have you perplexed and disoriented, unsure of exactly what's going on.
"Memento", a strikingly original film noir with an audacious narrative gambit is decidedly not for viewers with even a mild case of Attention Deficit Disorder.
Inspired perhaps partially by the famous "Seinfeld" backwards episode,...

Great Movie

by xian_xian , Jun 10 '01
Pros: Exciting movie that makes you wonder what's around the next corner
Cons: A bit artsy - if you find that to be a "con"
Snap shot fades to white opens this movie. The tale is told in reverse order - you know that by now or you wouldn't be checking out reviews - lead charecter has amnesia - sort of. He can't rmember things for more than 10 minutes. So, lead guy takes...

Post-Cubistic detective thriller

by sackbut8 , May 30 '01
Pros: Emotion-provoking series of scenes backing into a thought-provoking surprise climax.
Cons: The story is hard to follow and unsatisfying if you expect an easy ending.
This film invites you to compose your own theory of what is happening. It consists of a series of incidents, told in reverse, each with a strong emotional charge, to construct a touching portrait of what could be either the protagonist or a figure...
