Pros: A spellbinding spectacular not seen in years. Cons: A storyline that is all too overdone.
Baz Luhrman does it again - his cinematography style is becoming a trademark now in that the movies he has delivered to us have been colourful, loud and highly enjoyable. Moulin Rouge is no different - in fact it is even more spectacular than Romeo and...

Pros: Visually stunning film, with great work by John Leguizamo Cons: Dully predictable story line and horrid renderings of some of my favorite songs
Let's add this one to the list of movies that everyone on earth loves except me. Writer/ director Baz Luhrman managed to keep me either bored or furious throughout most of this peach of a film. What a waste of two hours.
I did try very hard...

Pros: beautiful, passionate, clever, interesting. Cons: This is a story about predictability..
A good way to introduce something old in to a modern market is to make it somehow new, even in how it is old. For Moulin Rouge, Baz Lehrman took old music (from the seventies, eighties, even early nineties) and had the characters sing those old songs in...

Pros: reminiscent of Tommy, The Opera. Fun, grotesque, simple love story Cons: Sometimes over-noisy, and too simple?
This movie does many things. It is bizarre in some places, like the courtesan meeting lovers inside an elephant. Like the men all throwing their hats in the air, and the camera panning to a picture of Paris with the hats in the air. Like the moon with...

Pros: Lurhmann's done it again! The costume, scenery, story is amazing! Cons: Ewan McGregor tries too hard but can't sing or act, as a matter of fact.
The whole movie is beautiful. Baz Lurhmann has once again made my jaw drop. Set in France, the scenery was wonderful from the village of sin with all the run-down hotels, to the Moulin Rouge with the fancy can-can costumes and the most exquisite costumes...

Pros: beautiful visually lots of different camera techniques Cons: herky jerky timing especially the songs
If you're looking for a new "Oklahoma" or "Sound of Music," Moulin Rouge is the wrong place to look. It is very very fast, nearly makes your head spin with the speed of the visual, and yes there is singing, but it's always about 5 or 10 seconds of...

Pros: vibrant colours, great musical numbers, witty, clever, funny, and spectacularly spectacular! Cons: If you're looking for something Normal and Expected, this movie is probably not for you
What a breath of fresh air! Just as the studios are busy squeezing out recycled movie formulas like toothpaste, along comes a film that disappoints expectations in a most pleasant way. I thought it would be an average to slightly above average film -- I...

Pros: Kidman and McGregor make awesome team. They have great singing voices. Cons: Very odd during the first 30 minutes.
One thing I couldn't stop staring out was Ewan McGregor's smile. I never noticed how nice his smile is. The first 30 minutes of the movie, that is the only thing I thought was good. The movie was completely cracking me and my friends up. At first, I...

Pros: Great Music, visually spectacular, funny and romantic Cons: simple, kitschy
I've just come form watching one of the most spectacular cinematic experiences I've ever encountered. Here is a very brief summary (Skip it if you just want to read my evaluation).
The film is set in Paris in 1899 and stars Nicole Kidman and Ewan...

Pros: * Brillant use of contemporary music
* Fast-paced great story Cons: * It has to end some time.
Baz Luhrmann, director of a modernised Romeo and Juliet, brings us a musical that is truly for the new millennium: MOULIN ROUGE.
Shot at Fox Studios in Sydney, this is almost like a modern Cabaret though that Liza Manelli film still has the...

Pros: Crazy Music, Stunning Sets, Lavish Costumes, and Incredible Dancing! Cons: Story?
But diamonds are a girl's best friend; Here we are now, entertainers; Roxanne, you don't have to where that dress tonight; Like a virgin, touched for the very first time.
What do all those songs have in common? They are all in the...

Pros: Ewan McGregor, colour, heart, humanity and fantasy Cons: Drags only briefly in comparison to the pace of the rest of the film.
A cinematic genius once again thrills the world with the mind blowing talent of snagging the humanity in us all. The fact that the characters burst into song during the movie keeps it more in the feel of a story -- which is what "Moulin Rouge" is about....

Pros: None Cons: I've listed them all in my review
Don't waste yours on seeing this picture!
First, I thought that Nicole Kidman just stood out too much and she did not fit into this role the right way. Her character was not playful/light enough. She is definitely sexy and beautiful, but she...

Pros: "Interesting Characters" Cons: Shows a little too much skin
My first thought was, "Oh gosh, another one of those boring posh love stories. I paid $10.00 to go sleep for a couple hours." But infact after the movie started it was hard to take your eyes off of the very colorful screen. After the initial...

Pros: colorful? Cons: almost everything.
I understood when I rented this that most peoples reactions to the film were either "Loved it" or "Hated it"
so I suppose I fall into that, the Hated It's.
In my movie viewing life, I have only turned off a few films midway because I...
