Pros: fabulous songs, charming actors Cons: camera angles caused dizziness, characters were tragically stupid
The screen seems to come alive with the passion and intensity that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor play their parts in the latest box office release, "Moulin Rouge." Baz Luhrmann truly outdid himself this time. His ability to create a tragedy within a...

Pros: This movie has it all! It's so beautiful. Cons: Promotes absinthe a bit too much.
This movie besides being visually stunning has a great script, beautiful inimate scenes between Christian and Satine, great comedy, and interesting characters everywhere.
The script has lines you'll never forget. The absolutely most...

Pros: Ewan McGregor can actually sing! Cons: The ending is revealed in the first ten minutes.
First things first. The current rendition of Lady Marmalade, featuring Christina Aguilera, et al, really has nothing at all to do with Moulin Rouge. At least, not to my understanding. The song implies that Moulin Rouge the place and Moulin Rouge the...

Pros: The colors, the images, the movement, are all extraordinary. Cons: One musical scene that lasts a bit too long.
While the plot, the woman torn between the rich, heartless man and the poor, loving youth is overdone and normally so predictable and tedious, this story is not just about them, but about the Moulin Rouge. Most important to seeing this movie is an open...

Pros: The awesome music, fantasic and complex visuals, the story, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman... Cons: It may not be appealing to everyone because of subject content.
If you're looking for a pretty ordinary or traditional movie, look elsewhere. Moulin Rouge is far from ordinary. It may in fact be a milestone in cinema and how movies are made.
The plot follows as set in 1899. Christian, an aspiring writer...

Pros: A frenetic visual feast filled with an ID generated circus Cons: Pace can live your eyes strained and you mind whirling
Brace yourself for this one. From the "opening curtain" you know you're in for something quite different, with Lurhman's latest visual feast. Incorporating many of the familiar quick cuts and dramatic freezes he used in "Romeo & Juliet", the director...

Pros: Great love story Cons: not classic type of musical
I went to see 'Moulin Rouge' with some friends. At first I was somewhat skeptical of it because I did not think Nicole Kidman was a singer of any sorts. I don't know what I was expecting from the movie when I went in, but I found the movie very...

Pros: Movie Musicals Have a New Genre Cons: Mixed Music Styles and steady-cam problems
Some of you might remember Director Baz Luhrmann for the song he presented and produced in 1999 called "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)."
This is a complete new genre of movie musical. The Moulin Rouge that we expected to be a time piece,...

Pros: Dark, mysterious, spectacularly overdone, inspiring Cons: We're dealing with actors, not singers, no original music
Finally a movie that captures the spirit of Paris in 1900 and the Bohemian Revolution. This film draws a definitive line between truth and reality. Though this movie is far from realistic, it is most certainly true. It, in itself shows a view of life,...

Pros: Great music, fine directing, and fabulous acting! Cons: Some may find it a little eccentric...
Whoever didn't like this movie...I feel sorry for you. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, although it may seem a little off-the-wall for some viewers. Sure, sometimes it gets really wild...Okay, it's not was many would expect...But hey,...

Pros: Beautifully shot; gorgeous to watch Cons: If you're looking for serious-this isn't it
Baz Luhrmann has outdone himself in this eye-popping, electrofying love story set against the backdrop of the gloriously seedy Moulin Rouge and la vie boheme at the beginning of the 1900's.
Fast, farcical and funny, this movie requires an...

Pros: Beautiful and engaging for both the eye and the mind Cons: None!
Moulin Rouge sweeps the audience into a whirlwind where the lines between reality and fiction become blurred. Technically the story is set in Montmarte, Paris in the early 1900's, but the musical numbers incorporate modern music. In lesser hands...

Pros: Refuses to take itself seriously. Fast and funny for most of the movie. Cons: Tries to rewrite myths, but fails.
Moulin Rouge almost works, and it's painful to realize why it doesn't, at least for me.
It starts out lush and humorous, with anachronisms, delightful songs and over the top performances. It's a love story that you know the ending to (since...
