Pros: 4 great performances, good story focus. Cons: flash and pomp obscure some great images and sequence ideas. Some songs don't fit.
Part of me wishes Baz Luhrmann would learn to trust the images he can frame so well. By trust I mean hold the cameras on them long enough for us to absorb them. If this, at least in part, a story of beauty as the ads proclaim, let the shot linger. I wish...

Pros: A bona fide visual tour de force. The pop songs, Kidman (especially) and McGregor rock. Cons: Luhrmann's flashy filmmaking maybe goes a tad overboard. It's not parents' evening you know Baz...
Every yuletide the thought comes to me, as I munch my way through another rum truffle and watch Singin' in the Rain, The Wizard of Oz or Mary Poppins (delete as appropriate) for the umpteenth time - not The Sound of Music, they can keep that one - yes,...

Pros: originality in score, certain smart dialogue Cons: no originality in storyline, predictable, too caught up in love for us pessimists
Simply put, "Moulin Rouge" is an extravagant and orate boy meets girl story. A poor boy falls in love with a girl who is financially better off than he is, convinces her that her lifelong ideals and morals are contrary to what they should be,...

Pros: Those who want energy, punch, snap, however, this is the movie for you. Cons: This is a tenuously-plotted movie.
There are few things I enjoy more than Christmas with my girlfriend's kin. Well, maybe a good scourging with razorwire, having my nether portions consumed by land-roaming piranha, listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks, on helium, sing The Mikado,...

Pros: Great cinematography, surreal, great acting (Nicole and Ewan can actually sing great!), and much more! Cons: Not for everyone! The first twenty minutes way *too* "in your face"/pacing. Sound effects...
With all of the gimmicks out there nowadays, Moulin Rouge's tops them all. In 1899-1900 Paris, a very artistically told story is woven around songs from the 70's and 80's. Ingenious. This movie is NOT for everyone. I, though, loved it. The first...

Pros: Music, costumes, songs, magical spectacle Cons: Somewhat dizzying, the plot is rather cliched
When I first saw the commercials for Moulin Rouge, I was intrigued. The costumes looked dazzling, the movie looked interesting. I still haven’t seen William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, but had heard rave reviews concerning the film, so I was looking...

Pros: Set, Costumes, Ewan McGregor, Directing, Everything Cons: NONE
I had heard that this movie was really good. I was prepared to be disappointed, you know, high hopes that are usually dashed in the movie theater. Well, I was shocked, surprised, and riveted to my seat. Have you ever fallen in love with a film? This...

Pros: ------ Cons: ------
Moulin Rouge is a fateful love story set within a colorfully, imaginatively modern musical hybrid. The director is Baz Luhrmann (Romeo + Juliet), who splashes glitter and vibrance across the screen in generous helpings, much like the effect of a whirling...

Pros: A dazzling visual and aural tour de force. Cons: none
Baz Luhrmann has always been about pushing the creative envelope and fans of his earlier work (Romeo and Juliet and Strictly Ballroom) won't be disappointed. Moulin Rouge is a natural progression in Luhrmann's development as a...

Pros: Music that really makes you want to see along and awesome cinematography! Cons: none
Moulin Rouge was definetly entertaining to say the least. When I personally went in to see this film I had no idea that it was a musical... and I was so excited when I realized this because I love musicals. So, if you are into musicals this is a movie...

Pros: Everything... McGregor, Kidman, costumes, sets, music... It all fits. Cons: That it had to end.
Five million stars, really, all glittering and dancing in the glowing Parisian sky. I've lost all sense of time and fear in this intoxicating fin-de-siecle Bohemian fantasy-- a new dazzling spectacle for this siecle, Moulin Rouge...

Pros: Fantastic visuals, fun to watch Cons: Kidman's character dies (don't worry, this is the first thing you learn)
I cannot describe Moulin Rouge. I really can't. But I'm going to attempt to write a review anyway.
I saw this movie recently with my wife at a free screening. Before the movie began we discussed what we would do if one of us loved it and...

Pros: There are so many...where should I start? Cons: none
Musicals don't excactly appeal to me. I'd much rather watch a good comedy or an action flick then sit through one of these. But, much to my disbelief, I found myself sitting in a crowded theater awaiting the showing of "Moulin Rouge." I groaned...

Pros: It only cost five bucks to get in. Cons: The directing. A frenetic pace that lurched between cartoonish gags and over-the-top melodrama
I wanted to love this movie.
One of Baz Luhrman's previous efforts "Simply Ballroom" was a brilliant film, alternating between a truly romantic love-story and a broad comedy portrayal of people far too obsessed with one thing. Combine that...

Pros: Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman display amazing talents over a backdrop of supreme cinematography. Cons: Some of the humor borders on cheesy.
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love... and be loved in return."
This lesson, which begins and ends "Moulin Rouge," may seem pale in comparison to the swelling strings which weep beneath...
