Tension-filled relationships story

by mcrowl , Aug 31 '02
Pros: Great tension and humour
Cons: Alien factor somewhat improbable
M Night Shyamalan’s latest movie combines his love of tension with a story about a broken family, a loss of faith – and aliens. Whether there really are aliens or not, I’ll leave you to see, since this isn’t primarily a sci-fi film.
Signs is a...

Look Everyone! The Emporer has no clothes!!

by james_felix , Aug 19 '02
Pros: Well directed and performed; one of those really funny TCM ads during the previews
Cons: horribly written, riddled with so much illogical nonsense that suspension of disbelief is impossible
This review has loads and loads of spoilers, you have been warned!!!!

M. Night Shymalan has given us a couple of great movies lately. I loved The Sixth Sense and I liked Unbreakable. He's dropped the ball here though, and it's my...

All SIGNS Point To Yes

by FissionChips , Aug 11 '02
Pros: Shyamalan is a wonderful director with the ability to capture the audience like no other.
Cons: This movie is not another "The Sixth Sense". Assumptions and expectations may not be met.
M. Night Shyamalan, writer and director of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, is undoubtedly under immense pressure with his reputation for deceiving audiences and many expect his newest release to show Signs of trickery as...

STOP!

by m.s.heart , Aug 03 '02
Pros: some good humor and camera work
Cons: characters, finale, not really scary
In 1999, M. Night Shyamalon gave us THE SIXTH SENSE with an ending that was jaw-dropping incredible. In 2000, he gave us UNBREAKABLE with an ending that was inevitable but tolerable. In 2002, the director gives us SIGNS with an ending that is not only...

Signs

by skaterdude646 , Aug 18 '02
Pros: It is a movie that you will jump alot through. It also is a thinker.
Cons: The actors where not my favorite I think they could have got better actors.
Signs starts out promisingly. The opening titles, huge letters on a stark gray background illuminated as if by a spotlight, with the corners of the screen in darkness, are accompanied by the film’s composer James Newton Howard’s best imitation of...

A Fantastic Movie

by austinv , Aug 05 '02
Pros: Hands down the most suspenseful, best acted, best directed movie of the year.
Cons: Weak ending.
I enjoyed The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, so you could call me a fan of M. Night Shyamalan, the director of Signs. Although I expected a pretty good movie, never did I expect one this spectacular.

There have been many comparisons...

Good, but not great

by fivetonine , Aug 06 '02
Pros: Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, the child actors
Cons: Screenplay could have been better; so could the plot.
I thoroughly enjoyed M. Night Shyamalan's earlier movies, Sixth Sense and Unbreakable and looked forward to Signs with great anticipation.

Now that I've seen it, I have to say it was a good film but not a great one. As I...

Doesn't reach quality level of The Sixth Sense, but fun nonetheless.

by terajean , Aug 03 '02
Pros: Isn't afraid to take you all the way to the scariest places, and deepest messages.
Cons: Day of the Triffids ending, and too glib restoration of a man's faith in God.
M Night Shyamalan was a busy guy in this movie. He wrote the script, directed the film, and played a small but key role, that of Ray, the local veterinarian. He may be developing into a Hitchcock for this millenium.

With this film,...

Dead Silence

by mic705 , Aug 05 '02
Pros: Jarring and Compelling.
Cons: Sci-fi aspect works against thriller apsect.
Signs is a very difficult film to review. Seriously. The quality of the film depends on what you want out of it. The movie is a split between a science fiction film and a psychological thriller along the lines of the Blair Witch project. The flaw...

Two In One

by dvdfan555 , Aug 04 '02
Pros: Every scene where it's dark outside.
Cons: Half of the scenes where it's light outside. The Ending.
M. Night Shyamalan's newest film "Signs" is two movies in one. The trailer shows off the films alien mystery plot which is extremely well done but what it does not show is what the movie is actually about. It's really all about a man who's lost his...

by seacow Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 27 '02
Pros: Interesting plot
Cons: Doesn't hold all the way through
We’ve all seen the crop circles on TV. They’re those big, odd-looking patterns in cornfields that seem to be the work of aliens (or really skilled pranksters) that defy explanation. Mel Gibson plays Graham Hess, a former priest that lives on a...

Shyalaman...god or goof?

by Brogue999 , Aug 10 '02
Pros: Moody cinematics
Cons: Not so moody cinematics
I just got back from seeing Signs...well I had a few Guiness beforehand at Cha-Cha Coconuts..which is a future review...and I must say M.Night is a savy director for a hollywood punk of only 32 years of age. He knows what creeps you out folks. He knows...

The toughest review I've ever written.

by billmanchego , Aug 04 '02
Pros: Humor, scares, emotion... this film has a little of everything.
Cons: Some folks won't like the ending.
What is Signs about?

In a word, coincidences. Do you believe in luck? Are those things you can't quite explain just anomalies, or are they part of something bigger? Are YOU part of something bigger?

That's as far as I'll tread into...

by siren123 , Aug 12 '02
Pros: Creepy, scary, keeps you nice and nervous
Cons: A lot of unanswered questions
I had the lowest expectations for this movie. I was pretty sure I knew what it was about since all the posters I'd seen have shown the "crop circles." I've long known about those hoaxes and am not the least bit interested in all the hoopla about aliens...

Mothman Made Mediocre

by sussmanbern , Sep 03 '02
Pros: Excellent photography, good acting, ...
Cons: ... hackneyed storyline
About two years ago a dreary flying saucer epic titled THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES opened and closed to reviews that were, how you say, less than compelling. M. Night Shymalan, who stunned us with SIXTH SENSE, and then disappointed us with UNBREAKABLE,...
