Of all the shows ever recommended to me, this has to be the highest rated. CSI is everywhere. It's in the ratings, in the record books of ratings, and in the human collective consciousness. There is not a corner of America that has not heard of this ...

Pros: A collection of solid, if unpolished, episodes
Cons: A lack in the extras department

The CSI DVD sets, while containing a handful of extras, have never really been about commentary or interviews. Until Spike TV began showing it 'round the clock, these were a great way of catching up on the old days of CSI.

The first season was certainly the most tame of the series - almost no "weird" or "fetish-based" themes run rampant and the characters are blissfully complicated and fresh.

This was far more about the characters than the stories, something that took a backseat as the series progressed.

There are a few misses, such as Dakota Fanning's episode "Blood Drops" about incest and pedophelia oh my, and Nick's trip down dead stripper lane, coupled with Grissom's gun-jump upon finding a dead baby, but for pure nostalgia's sake, this is a fun one to check out.

Remember when Catherine's hair sucked? Remember when Sara wore make-up? Remember Warrick? Grissom the Bachelor? Remember when Greg was still funny? Nick's pretty much the same. Aah, the old days.
