You've Got Mail goes Ghetto! and gets Gangsta!

by garethusa Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 23 '03
Pros: Queen Latifah; Eugene Levy; Betty White. Every scene with Queen Latifah.
Cons: Steve Martin; the script; way too long a movie.
Trailers are certainly getting better and better however the movies are getting worse and worse. The teaser for BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE is pretty decent and sets up this movie "all-right." But you'll feel different about it when you leave the theater....

by yoshi9143 , Mar 22 '03
Pros: Funny ethnic jokes Funny! Steve Martin dancing to RAP!
Cons: Maybe TOO many racist jokes
My friend had his confirmation so we went to see a movie. We decided Bringing Down the House since we love ethnic jokes(non of us are racist in fact we laugh at jokes about our own ethnicities.)

The REVIEW might be POSSIBLY OFFENSIVE

Cons: A few boring parts. Not as funny as it was made out to be.
A Little Info on the tale

They say...ONCE YOU GO BLACK...

by groovychick , Mar 22 '03
Pros: The deeper messages dealing with a lot of "isms"
Cons: Um, just predictable, but that was ok.
Quick Plot Summary: Divorced White lawyer (Martin) meets Black ex-con (Latifah) on the internet. She claims to be white and she's not. Later she claims she is innocent and in need of his legal services to prove it. He's in the midst of landing a major...

How To Make The UPN Look Progressive: Show "Bringing Down The House"

by pach1908 , Mar 09 '03
Pros: challenged my brain to think of what century I'm living in.
Cons: I paid 6 dollars to feed into embedded constructs of race roles. Unclean! Unclean!
Steve Martin stars as The White Lawyer and Queen Latifah stars as Sistuh wit da Brain who was blind enough to be set up for a prison jolt. One day she breaks free and does the smartest thing ever, 'trolling around the 'net looking for a lawyer who'll...

Steve Martin's best film this year

by pthirth , Mar 07 '03
Pros: This show is a heck of a lot of fun
Cons: LOTS of racist humor
I am NOT a Steve Martin fan, but I found this film a lot of fun. Steve plays Peter Sanderson, a conservative, workaholic tax attorney. His cell phone is more important to him than his ex-wife (played by Jean Smart) or children. In search of romance,...

Bringing Down the House

by spartns11 , Dec 17 '03
Pros: Steve Martin and Eugene Levy
Cons: Nothing we haven't seen before.
Bringing Down The House 2003 (10/21/2003) It doesn’t really matter how bad this movie is because it’s going to do well just on account of Steve Martin and everyone has to see the new Steve Martin movies, especially since he only does a few movies a ...

Bringing the Comedy Level Down

by McCarty , Jun 13 '03
Pros: There were several laugh out loud moments.
Cons: Aren't we past the "blacks & whites are different" thing?
Keep in mind that this review is being written by someone who saw the movie at the $1 entry place. ...

Bringing Down the Standards of Movies

by juleZ , Apr 02 '03
Pros: There is some funny chemistry between Eugene Levy and Queen Latifah's characters.
Cons: Unrealistic plot, a lot of shallow conversations
I thought they would stop making these movies after "What's the Worst that Could Happen?" (with Martin Lawrence and Danny DeVito). How come whenever there is a poorly made, PG-13 movie that is released, another Hollywood producer is born? "Bringing Down...

Humor and Steve Martin outweigh weak plot

by toddegan , Mar 10 '03
Pros: Steve Martin Dancing, Queen Latifa
Cons: Racist characters given a "Pass" in the plot
The plot in this movie is pretty basic. Queen Latifa's character meets Steve Martin in a Law chat room and misleads him into thinking she's white, skinny, and a lawyer. She breaks out of jail and stops by Martin's suburban home in need of Martin's skills...

Can You Dumb It Down A Shade?

by tony_dawes , Mar 10 '03
Pros: At least George Lucas didn't have anything to do with this movie.
Cons: Neither did an editor.
Let it be known:

Absolutely NO amount of [insert mood-altering substance here] will render this movie watchable!

Trust me, I tried. I thought I could shut off my brain for some boneheaded exploitation comedy, maybe...

The Queen brings Down the House

by bmauzey , Mar 08 '03
Pros: A lite comedy well acted.
Cons: Lacks direction, sub plots not well tied together.
Its been a long time since Steve Martin had a potential winner, and with the assistance of Queen Latifa and a sold supporting cast Bringing Down the House might be a sleeper. The story line is very predictable, a case of mistaken identity, Martin, is a...
