Pros: Performances, Plot, Music Cons: Complicated flashbacks may be confusing for kids
Almost every movie released these days (and in years past, for the most part) has a moral, message or lesson embedded in the story. Sometimes more than one. These can be subtle, or they can hit you over the head like a ton of bricks. Either way, they ...
Pros: The cast, strong story, inventive plots, diverse methods of telling the story Cons: too many lizards
Even when you are minding your own business, fate can step in and change your life forever. Such was the case for Stanley Yelnats IV in the movie Holes. Shia LaBeouf (from the television show Even Stevens) plays Stanley, who is accused of stealing a ...
Pros: Sends an excellent message. Dramatic, yet comical. Fabulous writing, casting, acting, music & much more! Cons: None, in my opinion, but it didn't have a huge budget.
The movie, Holes, is about the lives of three separate families, whose story began over a century prior the movie's present time. Their lives manage to cross paths with one another, intersecting and mingling in some rather innovative and ...
Pros: Fantastic story within a story within a story Cons: Requires your full attention, or you may get lost
the plotThe judge gave Stanley the choice between real jail time or spend the six months at Camp Green Lake. You see, Stanley Yelnats IV is sent to Camp Green Lake when he was hastily sentenced for stealing a very ...
Pros: A fun story, good acting, interweaving plots Cons: None that I see
I enjoyed reading Louis Sachar's book, Holes, and it isn't surprising that, given the author's major role in the making of the film, it turned out to be very faithful to the book. At first, Holes seems like three separate stories: the ...
Pros: GREAT actors, GREAT plot, FABULOUS flashbacks, GREAT DVD Cons: A con in Holes? Never!
In the year of 2003, I was so incredibly obsessed with Holes that I'd seen it at least twice a month and made it to twenty times, literally, I have seen Holes at least twenty times. I can quote anything in the movie, and not just that. I'd read the book ...
Pros: Do the words "absolutely nothing" sound serious enough? Cons: Okay then, how about the word "everything"?
This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was, in fact, so horrible that it made my opinion of some of the people I viewed this film with sour a little. "Why was that?" You ask a good question. The answer is: Some of them ...
Pros: interesting plot - keeps your interest throughout the film Cons: the movie was not as good as the book
I watched Shia LaBoeuf star in the Disney Channel's original series, "Even Stevens" for quite a long time. I loved him in his role in "Even Stevens" because he played a funny and not serious role and he was very good at it. I was a little bit skeptical ...
Pros: Very nicely complex, well acted, fun. Cons: Too tough for little kids to follow?
This movie is not for very young kids, as it is complicated with flashbacks and history that makes the story complete. In fact, it is a marvelous way to show how history affects people directly, whether or not we realize it. Beginning in a boot camp atm ...
Pros: Strong novel-to-screen adaptation Cons: There are several moments of violence (fights, several deaths and near-death experiences, gunplay)
After reading/hearing many positive reviews regarding "Holes," I rented a copy to see for myself. Although billed as a children's film (Disney no less), "Holes" deals with universal elements of friendship, loyalty, and destiny, with a healthy dose of ...
Pros: Good cast, good story. Cons: Not for everyone. Puzzle gets complicated for kids, boring for adults.
Rewind about 3 years back. I was in my 7th grade literature class, when my teacher assigned us to read one of the greatest pieces of literature I have ever read. Now fast forward to present day. That piece of literature ended up being a really good ...
Good movie but not for young children! by burmistrz ,Oct 03 '03
Pros: intriguing plot Cons: violence, killings, shootings and beatings - including of children
I do not like reviews with extensive descriptions of the plot, so here it is briefly: a wrongfully convicted boy is sent to a desert camp where his daily activity is digging holes for some mysterious reason. The plot is intriguing enough to make this movie worth seeing. However, it is rated PG, and in fact it should be PG-13 in my opinion. The movie features too much violence, killings and beatings to be watched by young children. This is not something I expected from a Disney produced movie, and I was very disappointed when the violence on the screen started, because it was too late to forbid watching the whole movie to my 6-yr-old son. I covered his eyes several times.
In addition, two main characters are nicely performed by young actors, which we will probably see again on the screen. They are nicely supported by veterans: Sigourney Weaver and Jon Voigt. There is also nice music and a very nice official website at: http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/liveaction/holes/main.html
One of the best movies of 2003. by movie_addict_0 ,Feb 13 '04
Pros: good, original plot, good cast, good music Cons: In the book, main character was chubby and wasnt in the book. (not big deal)
Holes is about a juvinile home in deep Texas where kids dig wholes all day. But this kid, the main character, says he didn't do what he is in there for, stealing some shoes. He blames his "no good pig-stealing great great great grandfather" (or something to that effect.) The whole story is revealed in the movie and in the book. Holes has such an original plot, i don't think there's been anything like it before. It's originality gives it excitment and keeps you at the edge of your seat. Speaking of the book, I also recommend reading the book, Holes. Unlike most movies that are based on books, it's safe to read the book before seeing the movie. The movie is exactly like the book, it just puts faces to the names. I definately recommend both the book and the movie. They did a finominal job on the cast as well. Every face matched the description (except in the book, the main character was sopost to be chubby, but wasn't in the movie.) Anways, this is a must see movie and a must read book.
Pros: Great storyline. Suspense and excitement. Cons: Not directed to all age groups.
The creators of this movie did a great job of basing this on the book. You always know they have done a great job when it feels like you have already seen the movie because you read the book. I highly recommend this book for older kids and teens, ages 8 to 16. Even some adults I think would enjoy this.
