This show is just another example of the GENIUS that is Joss Whedon. It is a serious travesty that this show was cancelled. I think that most people cringe when you hear the genre is Sci/Fi, but in actuality I believe this show could appeal to anyone. I love Joss's ability to mix drama and comedy together in a Sci/Fi setting. If you haven't seen Firefly, I highly recommend getting it! I thoroughly enjoyed this show (all one season of it) WAY more than the movie, which I thought changed a few of my favorite characters in a bad way and certainly wrapped up the questions neatly, but not nearly as neatly as they would have been wrapped up had this show been given a decent chance. The casting and acting are TOP NOTCH! This show is highly recommended!

Pros: Wonderful, unique sci-fi universe. Attractive actors/actresses, witty dialog, exciting stories, mature and intelligent. There's HORSES! Cons: Some won't like space-cowboy flavor. No exotic non-human aliens (but to some that's a plus).
This was the first TV show that I got really excited about since the original Star Trek. It was the first show ever that my husband and I used to sit and watch together. This is a real rip-snorter of a show. I can't imagine what motivated FOX to cancel it. That was just incredibly unintelligent of them.
Now there is to be a FIREFLY movie. I believe anyone who sees the movie will want this DVD set, but why wait? Enjoy the 'verse now, and you'll enjoy the movie much more, later, when it comes out.
The characters are all interesting and appealing. The dialog is quirky and witty, the stories are all exciting, the starship is unique, the Firefly universe is completely fresh. It's wonderfully well-imagined.
The DVDs are very nicely packaged and there's all kinds of juicy commentaries and extras for fans. The price is right for gift-giving, so give these sets as gifts to your friends and family members who like action-packed sci-fi.

I can't say enough good things about this show. From the pilot to the last episode, it is strong all the way through. Each episode got noticeably better as it went on. Just when you thought that there was no way from them to top the previous episode, they did. The Character's are some of the best I seen. They are so interesting in their interactions. The dialog is top notch and extremely witty. Some episodes are non stop one liners that will have you rolling on the floor while other episodes can be quite chilling or dramatic. This show has it all and I truly think it something that can be enjoyed by everyone. It doesn't suffer from the same sci-fi stereo-types, in fact it goes against them somewhat. I can almost guarantee that you will like this show. Like I said, it has a lot of appeal for a wide group of people. Give it a shot, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

I love this series and hate to think there won't be more. I think those that have the chance to make more and put it back on the air would make a lot of people happy. Finally some excellent Sci-Fi... something that made me actually schedule my TV viewing schedule instead of letting Tivo take care of it for me. Making an effort to watch TV live on Friday night when Firefly was on. Not many shows out there can make me do that anymore.
In fact, overall, I consider Firefly to be one of the best new themed shows I had seen in a long long time. Certainly more cerebral and entertaining than all the "reality" drek that is being force-fed to us lately.

When my husband and I first started watching this program, I realized this was what Star Trek should have been. Each character is completely defined, interesting and well rounded. My only concern was the violence occasionally became a bit much (I'm a wimp, I know) and perhaps not appropriate for kids under 13 or so, and of course the idea of a "companion" prostitute on board didn't do much for me either (as the Christian that I am).
However, all that being said, if only they could put out more Science Fiction Fantasy like this. I am amazed that TV producers couldn't see how excellent the writing was, how the characters literally breathed life. Especially with such other Sci-Fi drivel that seems to stay for years. Stargate is a perfect example to me of a show where TV producers missed the boat on what Sci-Fi is supposed to be.
Joss said that he is working on a film of this TV series and I sure hope he finishes it and gets it at the theaters soon! Meanwhile, I'll keep watching this DVD!

Being a Buffy fan I just took a chance on this extremely well priced box set. Had I known what was in store I would have gladly paid three times the sticker price. This show pulls you into the lives and adventures of the eight main characters with such force that after each episode you are left wanting for much more. I am on my second viewing of the DVD set and will probably keep going until the possible movie (fingers crossed) makes it out....
