Pros: hilarious, poignant, action-packed, satirical Cons: may have too much style for the average viewer
What you think of Once Upon a Time in Mexico will depend, to a large degree, on what you expected going in. If you're not familiar with Robert Rodriguez, and his El Mariachi franchise, this last installment of the trilogy will be a head-scratching ...
Okay, I’ll admit it, the first time I saw Once Upon a Time in Mexico I turned the movie off half-way through because it was, well, boring despite all of the bullets whizzing through the dusty, arid Mexico City air. This was strange to me since I ...
Summary: El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) is back, he's in a bizarre stupor, and he's ready to exact his revenge on the general (Gerardo Vigil) that killed his girl, Carolina (Salma Hayek). But this is just one of the many plots in this movie. ...
Pros: Depp fans will be the ones who get the most out of this. Cons: bad continuity. banderas sleeping through the whole thing. incomprehensible bloody plot.
Plot: for unexplained reasons, Johnny Depp tries to orchestrate a 3 way betrayal between the mexican president, an out of contol General, and a drug lord. Depp hires a disinterested Antonio Banderas to kill the general, a corrupt politician to kill the ...
Pros: Johnny Depp - interesting editing. A couple of good special features Cons: Side Characters and Story Line.
Summary: To my wife's never ending happiness - Banderas is back - El Mariachi has walked away from his "rugged" life, but is pulled back in to exact revenge for the death of his wife Carolina (Salma Hayek)by killing General Marquez (Geraldo Vigil). ...
Pros: Johnny Depp Brilliant as always! Very entertaining and action filled! Cons: Didn't Live up to all of the hype! Storyline could've been more interesting!
I've been meaning to write this review for weeks, but for one reason or another have not gotten around to it until now. What was lost in immediacy is now gained in perspective. As a result, I can judge the film more fairly. "Once Upon A Time..." is ...
Killing,Killing and more Killings....But still good.... by skrules ,Jan 30 '04
Pros: Action, Johnny depp, Music, Antonio banderas Cons: Gore, Violence, Story, Screenplay
this is a costly sequel for the mariachi movies....the story just about the mariachi taking revenge on the killer of his wife and his child...the story is so simple....but robert rodriguez managed to make more flavorful by putting in some intresting cast and lots of peppy action...but the story is very weak...and the screenplay has lots of big holes....basically just a movie where every person shoots every other person....somebody shoots everybody
and everybody shoots somebody....and almost everyone betrays everyone else...but oh boy! oh boy!...they do it with lots of style....this movie is the biggest example for how to direct and edit a movie....crisp editing and direction...u never get bored....and the action....wow...u will forget blinking ur eyes...and
johnny depp, man he is the best....the way he does the
role....unspeakable....adn know what...Enrique iglesias does a respectable cameo in this movie....and the music,.....u think u never see movies with good mexican music?...now think again....overall i give it a B+....this film falls flat in story,screenplay...and also
has lots of gore....thats why i gave it a B+...overall this is a big treat for action lovers....
Pros: El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) finds a new love a beautiful book store owner (Salma Hayek). Cons: In the middle of the battle between Bucho's men, 2 of Mariachi's men die.
The story is a continuation of "El Mariachi," where an itinerant musician, looking for work, gets mistaken for a hitman and thereby entangled in a web of love, corruption, and death. This time, he is out to avenge the murder of his lover and the maiming of his fretting hand, which occurred at the end of the earlier movie. However, the plot is recapitulated, and again, a case of mistaken identity leads to a very high body count, involvement with a beautiful woman who works for the local drug lord, and finally, the inevitable face-to-face confrontation and bloody showdown.
El Mariachi tracks down the last Mexican drug-lord "Bucho" with the help of his best friend and a beautiful book store owner (Salma Hayek). In a poetically violent style reminiscent of John Woo and Sam Peckinpah, the Mariachi takes on his entire army of henchmen in a dusty border town as an act of revenge for the murder of his love and his injured musician's hand. Robert Rodriguez's big budget sequel to "El Mariachi." Also starring Cheech Marin (of Cheech
Pros: JOHNNY DEPP, ANTONIO BANDERAS Cons: Everything else...
BUT I wouldn't recommend it, it had way too much violence and almost little to no story, there were a few humor parts that made it bearable, but pretty much just watch it on mute to view the male scenery!! :)
Banderas / Depp Keep A Chance Alive In The Final Chapter by NRay7882 ,Jan 12 '05
Pros: Good cast, smart action sequences, expected gunfights. Cons: Not a spectacular way to end the trilogy, plot was thin.
Antonio Banderas returns in the third part of the "El Mariachi" in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico". Joining him from "Desperado" is Salma Hayek as Carolina. Together, they take on a cartel, and Banderas seeks vengence from a crooked militia leader.
Johnny Depp also stars in the film as a double-agent; an FBI agent trying to investigate the cartel, and an informant for the cartel to gain an upper hand on their drug lord, Barillo (who is played by the great Willem Dafoe).
The movie has its action sequences, unlogical gunfights, and decent plot, but is very sketchy in the delivery and filmwork isn't as good as the previous films. Still, this DVD is a proud part of my collection.
DESPERADO: Antonio Banderas, Joaquim De Almeida, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Cheech Marin and Quentin Tarantino star in this stylish shoot- em-up desc...More at Buy.com
