Pros: cinematography, mise-en-scene, gorgeous actors, soundtrack Cons: screenplay, kinky themes and visuals could creep some people out
By definition, moviegoers are voyeurs. They pay their $9.00 or so to experience two hours of pleasure derived from watching other peoples lives. Transporting oneself into another world, the film viewer attempts to avoid reality. When Henri ...
Pros: The Edith Piaf song at the end Cons: Throw a dart, it's all bad
I imagine there is a time, early in the process, where those who conceive and begin construction of a film realize that they picked a poor topic and need to start again. Producer Jeremy Thomas, director Bernardo Bertolucci, and writer Gilbert Adair kept ...
Pros: Compelling plot, beautiful cinematography, stellar acting. Cons: Relationship between the twins not fully explored.
At the end of The Dreamers, I was not sure what to think. What had played out before me was at once sensual, sexual, erotic—but not overly so—sinfully voyeuristic, and politically charged. It was a study in excess, of youthful indulgence and ...
Pros: Strong themes; skillfully intercutting cinematic allusions; beautiful cinematography Cons: Less erotic than some viewers will expect; awkwardly stylized performances; relatively little plot
The most obvious meaning of "dreamers" in the context of Bertolucci's fabulous 2003 film, The Dreamers, is akin to the notion of idealists. This is a film about the late sixties and the hopes and aspirations of the youth of that era. It was a ...
Okay. I am now convinced that sex is a form of cinematic blackmail. It also demonstrates the sad degeneration of our concept of controversial art. Before the onset of the postmodern period, one created controversial art by ...
Pros: A Lush, Return to Form Effort from Bernardo Bertolucci. Cons: The Graphic Sex Might Be Too Much for Conservatives.
One of the most compelling and seminal filmmakers from Italy, Bernardo Bertolucci has always been a lightning rod for controversy. Whether it was for the raucous, carnal sexuality of his 1972 masterpiece Last Tango in Paris or the five-hour epic ...
Pros: The cast are sexy... Cons: ...but pity about the script.
The world seems quite divided about what to make of Bertolucci's latest The Dreamers so I'm a little confused about why I'm feeling just so blah about it. In trying to work out what to write about I read some internet reviews (not on this ...
Pros: Good looking cast; a passionate Valentine's to Film Cons: Utterly gratuitous graphic sex; If this celebrates everything film; why isn't it better?
Cinephiles with a taste for the erotic, THE DREAMERS' lusty triumvirate of French twins Theo (Louis Garrel) and Isabelle (Eva Green), and their more sexually inhibited American friend Matthew (Michael Pitt), pass the politically hostile days of 1968 ...
Pros: An intricately weaved story, good visuals, sexy and daring bravado. Cons: Acting that is merely good, the chance some will be quickly and easily offended.
The Dreamers is a new, primarily English-language film from the Italian king of cinematic controversy, Bernardo Bertolucci. If you've seen his past works, including 1900 and Last Tango in Paris, they provide a fairly clear idea of what to expect in this ...
Pros: Characters, cinematography, references to cinema, sex Cons: Lacking of plot, can be a little meandering
The Dreamers is the first Bernardo Bertolucci film I've seen in my life, and suffice to say, it was a very interesting experience. It's also a very sexual experience because Bertolucci, art house darling he might be, has developed a reputation for ...
Pros: Racy, lots of inside movie jokes and observations, beautiful cinematography Cons: Pompous at times
Coincidentally, two movies are playing in Los Angeles with very similar themes. Both are about naïve Americans going to experience the heady richness of Europe. Both movies are about sex – a take on the square American attitude versus the much more ...
Pros: All of the leads are very attractive. Cons: Basic Instinct had sex and a plot; This one only got it half right.
Okay, so I am a big movie buff. I like all kinds; Comedies, horror, action, artsy, sci-fi, campy B movies. I love them all. As long as they tell a story, and make sense in the world in which they exist. Austin Powers, The X-men, Love Stinks; They all ...
Pros: artsy, thought-provoking, intellegent Cons: graphic nudity and sex scenes may make some uncomfortable
The Dreamers is a provocative and dazzling masterpiece. No film fan should miss out on this movie. Though sexually explicit, it is equally beautiful and Eva Green's performance was stunning. Matthew is an American who moved to Paris to study French, ...
Pros: It was erotic for a while. Cons: Too pseudo-intellectual.
Bernardo Bertolucci’s latest creation has been billed as a love letter to Paris, sex and cinema. Well, at least the latter is accurate. The film definitely throws a bone to those of us who love cinema and anyone else feeling nostalgic about Paris in ...
Confused for a bit, think I got it and I am no dumb cookie. The plot or what I think was it is kind of lame and if you are into "artistic porn" then this is the movie for you. The movie open with an American in Paris during the trying times of France. It starts off dull and ends dull, but eventually you meet a sister and brother whom live in Paris with their parents. The most bizarre part of this film is the relations between the sister and brother as incest seems to play a huge role in their life. Being radically liberal I don't squirm as much as others would. Eventually the american falls in love with or actually just has sex with the sister at the request of the brother. They do have some light comedy, but this film is rated NC-17 for obvious sexual content and extreme nudity of both the males and female.
When Isabelle and Theo invite Matthew to stay with them, what begins as a casual friendship ripens into a sensual voyage of discovery and desire in wh...More at HotMovieSale.com
