Great television, bad dvd

Pros: Great 70's family drama! Cons: No extras!
The Waltons was classic 70s family drama of the best kind. I have become even fonder of the series over the years when comparing it to the rubbish that has dominated in more recent years. I highly recommend this collection for the programming. Further, the sound and picture are more than adequate, though not exceptional.
What this collection is lacking, however, and gives it only an average grade is the lack of extras. There are no bonus materialsno commentary, no cast interviews, no biographies, no making-of documentary, no promos, no Emmy Award speeches (the series won five for the first season)nothing. What makes this an even grater crime is the fact that this collection comes on duel-layer (double sided) discs, and the tenth side is blank.
Nevertheless, I highly recommend this package for the 24 first-season episodes it contains, starting with the opener, The Foundling, about a deaf girl left at the Waltons doorstep, and ending with An Easter Story in which the mother, Olivia, develops polio, and by resolving and struggling to walk again by Easter, teaches her children an important lesson about fulfilling their potential.
