Pros: Great performance by Michael Sheen, good supporting cast... Cons: weak performance by Moore, lacklustre script, poor pacing
From the trailers Id seen, Laws of Attraction looked like one of those movies that was either going to be excellent or awful. As it turned out it was neither, being more of the nondescript but relatively enjoyable variety. (I had the same ...
Pros: Brosnan, Moore, and Fisher. Entertaining movie. Cons: Predictable
I have liked Pierce Brosnan since I saw him in the television show Remington Steele. I have seen most of his movies. I also like Julianne Moore. I wanted to see Laws of Attraction, the movie they made together, when I first saw the ...
Pros: Nice, understated tale of mixed up lovers in one of the ugliest trades around. Cons: Most will find it too slow moving.
Every now and then, it's fun to take in a romantic comedy that's geared for the adults. Played in the style of the sharp, Tracy and Hepburn films that made you both think and laugh right along with the characters, this one tries very hard to get above ...
Pros:Julianne Moore is just wonderful. So is Frances Fisher and Pierce Brosnan. Cons: Nothing that stands out.
When the trailers for Laws of Attraction hit the theaters, I was excited to see the film. The week that it opened up, something else came up that prevented me from seeing it. By the time I was thinking about seeing it, I had seen many bad ...
Pros: Good-looking leads who know how to act, and follows the romantic comedy formula quite well... Cons: ... but it follows the romantic comedy formula.
Film festivals offer a golden opportunity to experience the new and unusual in the world of film. They screen films from all around the globe, in a multitude of genres, allowing a peek into the minds and lives of those with whom we ordinarily have no ...
Pros: "Julianne Moore's suits were like a fashion show!" (said my friend) Cons: Sadly, the clothes don't make the movie.
When you live in Reno, as I do, weekend plans can be pretty slim pickin’s. Last weekend, for example, my options were: an avant-garde play with “experimental lighting and seating” (“That means you’ll be sitting on the floor pointing flashlights at the ...
Pros: charming and well-acted leads, funny, and romantic Cons: obstrusive plot devices, not exactly original, and rough pacing
PLOT SUMMARY Audrey Woods (played by Julianne Moore) is a successful divorce attorney in New York. Her career makes her content, but not happy, at least not according to her mother. It seems that being a busy lawyer leaves Audrey with no romantic ...
Pros: I suppose the acting; I had not seen Bronson or Moore as lawyers before... Cons: Ghastly predictable plot, No genuine character development, Not funny, Not romantic.
There should be a new word coined to describe a movie whose trailer not only presents the best moments of a movie, but offers a condensed version of the entire film, including scenes at or near the end. Also, people who make movie posters that reveal ...
Pros: Pretty people, some good one-liners Cons: Predictable script, unexciting chemistry
The best romantic comedies have that... certain sparkle. Whether it’s perfect casting, witty dialogue or a sweetly surprising plot, we’re taken in and swept away. Unfortunately, "Laws of Attraction"-- the new film starring Julianne Moore and Pierce ...
Pros: Pierce is wonderful, comedy of Julianne's mother Cons: Same old story
You know, I was really in a mood for a good romantic comedy. It had been a while since the Nicholson one, and there isn't much in the video stores to rent right now that I haven't seen one way or another. So, I thought, how can I resist Pierce Brosnan? ...
Pros: A terrific romantic comedy with two great actors who have chemistry Cons: None
A romantic comedy of the old-fashioned type that are rarely made any longer, this jaunt into the world of romantic comedy is delightful. What's more, Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore show their capability in this genre, as well as true chemistry and spark with each other. The script follows the formula of the romantic comedy genre, but is original at the same time. The dialogue is crisp and modern, funny and tender. The mother is superb (when will ALL screenwriters learn that the secondary characters are as important as the main characters?) Moore's clothes are eye-catching, but more importantly, appropriate for her profession and income. Brosnan does a good job at being a handsome but somewhat slovenly version of himself (hard to do for such a handsome, dapper actor). All in all, a great hour and a half, if you like romantic comedies.
Not Much to Attract You to Laws of Attraction by handorf ,Jun 12 '04
Pros: Lead actors are hot. Parker Posey. Cons: Not much more than a sappy romantic comedy.
Synopis: Two divorce lawyers get drunk, then get married, and then try to pass themselves off as a couple to save their careers.
Review: Not good. I saw this movie with two women over 30, and they really liked it. It was fluffy and light, clocking a brief 97 minutes, 8 of which seemed to be devoted to the opening credits.
As I walked out of the theatre, I thought to myself, Thank God someone found the lost episode of Ally McBeal.
Yes, Brosnan and Moore can act, and technically it was a decent film. Other than the fact that its an extended situation comedy the characters do things that we would never expect people in their situation to do in real life. For example, after the two get married, they continue to represent the opposite sides of a couple seeking divorce.
The court scenes are believable, but if youre looking for two sharp attorneys at each others throats, check out From the Hip with Judd Nelson. There are much better movies out there right now.
