Pros: Aishwarya Rai is the best part about this film. Vivid art direction.
Cons: I had no idea this was going to be a musical.
I'm a sucker for anything connected with Jane Austen, and lately there has been a lot of things coming out that are associated with her novels. Such as endless renditions of her classic story of five sisters, Pride and Prejudice. This time, the ...

Pros: Sheer exuberance, chutzpah, and joi de vivre! Casting of Bakshis and Mr. Kohli Cons: Martin Henderson as Darcy; major writing problems with the Wickham subplot
Everyone who loves Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice knows the importance of that first moment, the moment when Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet first eye each other across a crowded dance floor. Just picture it with me: he's from out ...

Pros: Fun filled film to sit through and enjoy without having any expectations or comparisons. Cons: Features every cliche that could be imagined. Very predictable. Hey, this wasn't a "heady" film.
I believe that sometimes it's better to be ignorant of certain things before seeing a film. The truth is I have never read a Jane Austin book and I have never sat through a three hour Bollywood movie loaded with dance.(This film runs about an hour and a ...

Pros: fun and vibrant adaptation Cons: a little too much dancing for me, so-so Darcy
If I were to categorize this year in terms of my prevailing preoccupation, I would have to say that 2007 has been the Year of H

Pros: Joyful production numbers in blazing color; a paean to multiculturalism; beautiful, talented actresses; innovative undertaking Cons: Plot weaknesses; little of Austen's wit or incisive social commentary; Henderson as Darcy
Bride and Prejudice is a more important film than most critics have thus far recognized or acknowledged. It is a true original. It further stakes out the territory that Anglo-Asian director Gurinder Chadha has made her own: multiculturalism. ...

Pros: Nitin Chandra Ganatra, Aishwarya Rai was decent (but would have been better as Jaya/Jane) Cons: whitewashed characters especially Darcy, not witty or snarky, poor adaptation, random breakouts into song-and-dance
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a good Jane Austen movie is witty, filled with snarky dialogue, remarks on the ridiculousness of common social customs, and pokes fun at the social stratification of a rigid class system. By this criteria, ...

Pros: Cool blend of Indian and Western well, everything. Cons: The first couple musical numbers could've done with another dramatic scene to break them up.
Bride and Prejudice is a movie that didn't get the attention it deserved when it hit theatres here in the US. Even though I was aware of it and interested in seeing it, I never managed to. So when compiling a list of DVDs to rent, it was on the ...

Pros: joyous bhangra beat, colourful spectacles of mass spontaneous dancing, stunning Aishwarya Rai, hilarious supporting characters Cons: the travesty of casting Henderson as Darcy
Not to worryJane Austens not spinning in her grave. If anything, she of all people would be amused. After all, much of her writing revolved around the comedy of manners, and while her style was precise, reserved, and polished, Im sure ...

Pros: Aishwarya Rai. Cons: Martin Henderson.
Indian film goddess Aishwarya Rai's first English language film, the Jane Austen-meets-Bollywood musical comedy Bride & Prejudice, seems designed for the express purpose of capturing Tinseltown's attention--and on that end, the film is undoubtedly ...

Pros: Beautifully shot film Cons: the casting of Mr Darcy
I had to analyse this film and compared it to the book for the speech and ideolect for one of my assignments so I decided to buy the DVD (I normally don't like musicals) The DVD turned out to be an ex rental copy which was annoying because you can fast ...

Pros: Aishwarya Ray. Sumtuous costumes. HIGH energy! Cons: Minor problems with Martin Henderson's performance.
What's not to like? I've never read any Jane Austen, and only know her work from the film adaptations. SENSE & SENSIBILITY, EMMA, etc. So I cannot comment if "BRIDE" AND PREJUDICE does a good job of translating Austen to Bollywood. I suspect ...

Pros: Fun family entertainment based on a classic story. Cons: An unfamiliar film style that may take some getting used to.
The premise of the story is based on class distinction and the prejudice this causes as a result of preconceived notions of other socioeconomic groups and the pitfalls of individual pride which can be a hindrance to social discourse no mater which end of ...

Pros: A very funny and poignant film. Cons: There was nothing that I didn't like about this film.
Bollywood is India's version of Hollywood. India churns out more movies than Hollywood. After a recent interview with Bollywood's highest paid actress Aishawarya Rai on "60 Minutes", it was inevitable that Bollywood would invade the US shores. That film ...

Pros: Very funny! Beautiful costumes and sceans. Aishwarya Rai did a good job. Cons: Loosly Pride and Prejudice. Terrible writing. Terrible Mr. Darcy
I am a HUGE Pride and Prejudice fan. I own the book and I own two different versions of the movie. I like the Bridget Jones spin off of it. Thus, when I saw "Bride and Prejudice" in Blockbuster I new I had to rent it. First, I really didn't know ...
