Pros: Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon, some insightful moments Cons: The screenplay is rather ordinary
Love has come twice into the life of Ben Wrightman. When he was a boy, his uncle started taking the boy to Boston Red Sox games, and the boy became a fan in the process. The uncle (Lenny Clarke) warned Ben that the Red Sox would only break his heart, as ...
Pros: funny, cute, involves baseball, Jimmy Fallon Cons: Very formulaic, relationship sort of 'faked'
The Farrelly brothers have brought us a new romantic comedy with the film Fever Pitch. The story starts out simple enough, with a boy and a girl starting to fall for each other. They bridge the gap between the differences in their jobs (one is a ...
Pros: good acting, fun story Cons: well, you already know the ending in a way...
Ben lives in Boston. Ben is a baseball fan. Therefore, Ben has had a difficult life. Even worse than being a Mets fan in the shadow of the Yankees. When Ben grows up, he's a schoolteacher. One day, he brings a group of kids to a mathematics firm ...
Pros: Ben is kind of witty, more zigzags than gags. Cons: Stereotypical female character, a few totally unbelievable moments
Fever Pitch is kind of an iffy venture. Whilst it clings to the tried-and-true formula of the all-American romantic comedy, it swings from almost brilliant to macabre and back again like an unforgiving carnival ride. The Farrelly Brothers have ...
Pros: Fallon and Barrymore are great together Cons: A couple of unfunny scenes
Fever Pitch is a romantic sports comedy based very loosely on the novel of the same name by Nick Hornby. It stars Jimmy Fallon (Saturday Night Live) and Drew Barrymore and was directed by the Farrelly brothers. I am a huge Nick Hornby fan and have ...
Pros: Barrymore, Fallon Cons: very simple storyline
I was browsing Blockbuster for a movie, a few months back, that both my mother and I would enjoy and came across Fever Pitch. Im not always fond of love stories and thought that the movie would be a little boring since it focused on ...
Pros: Attempts to answer some important relationship questions; Fallon and Barrymore Cons: Too simple to be a great movie.
How far should obsessed sports fans go in their devotion to their favorite team? This is a question many have posed and that no one has a clear answer. Some people have the capacity to limit their consumption of sports if something very important takes ...
Pros: sweet story, good performances, effective direction Cons: not outrageously funny, has to overcome a nauseating "cute" factor
I believe in miracles - not because the Boston Redsox won the World Series, but because I actually sat through Fever Pitch and liked it. When they're good, romantic comedies are magic; when they're not, they're a prison sentence. Fever Pitch was ...
Pros: Scenes at Fenway, a few funny scenes, Barrymore looks good with darker hair Cons: Not that funny, plodding pace at times, repeated showings of the "Buckner play."
When deciding to see a movie this weekend my wife suggested we go see Fever Pitch, I was a bit hesitant. The more I thought about it though, the more I wanted to see those Red Sox postseason highlights one more time. I'd seen the press about the ...
Having recently rewatched both About a Boy and High Fidelity, I'm reasonably sure that the latter is my all-time favorite film adaptation of a Nick Hornby novel. And having recently rewatched both There's Something About Mary and ...
Pros: funnier than expected, Fallon, decent romantic comedy Cons: rather unbelievable, drags in some parts
I was bored yesterday. Not that this is big news, after all, I'm bored a lot of the time. How else to explain all the damn writing I do? Anyways, my mood was a bit off yesterday as well. You see, my original plan was to go see Sin City again ...
Pros: Jimmy Fallon, the baseball stuff Cons: Drew Barrymore, the stuff that isn't baseball
The opening scene of Damn Yankees showcases a suburban wife bemoaning how her sweet attentive husband turns into an absentee spouse wholly focused on fielding percentage, stealing bases, and beating those damn Yankees for six months out of every ...
Pros: Cast, charisma between Fallon and Barrymore. Good pacing and editing. Cons: Some will still not understand the film.
In most cases a romantic comedy can veer into two distinct directions, it can veer off into the "chick-flick" route (like "Miss Congeniality") or can veer off into the goofy yet pliable world that men can enjoy (Like "Shallow Hal"). A ...
Pros: Why is this section required? Cons: This is actually a straight-forward, on topic posting!
Nick Hornby has the sort of success the likes of which most people can only dream. A wildly successful writer, with three of his works converted to movies -- one of them twice. And he isn't yet 50. His writing, at least his books, share a common ...
Pros: heartwarming story; humorously captures Sox fandom; Tessie! Cons: laughs take a while to roll in
For 86 years, being a fan of the Boston Red Sox involved heartbreak, loyalty, and hopeless romanticism. Finally, the Farrelly Brothers have taken those lovable and laughable traits and translated them into a romantic comedy setting. As a Sox fan, my ...
Pros: good acting, great ballpark scenes, cameo appearances, feel-good moments Cons: some juvenile humor, inappropriate conversation between children and adult
I am not a big fan of movies wrapped with a sports theme. There have been some good ones, though, so I gave Fever Pitch a toss in the DVD player. Who would have thought that romance and baseball could be combined. Basic Plot Synopsis ...
Pros: dare I say sometimes cute? Cons: unfunny, plodding, typical Farrelly brothers formula
I don't have many opinions on Jimmy Fallon, so let's just say I wasn't deeply saddened when he left the dwindling cast of Saturday Night Live for a career in movies; a path on which many Saturday Night Live alumni have taken only to find disappointing ...
Pros: Fallon & Barrymore are actually fairly charming. Cons: Nothing really bad in the film...but it's just so MODEST in its efforts.
Although this is a Farrelly Brothers movie...it really isn't. Except for an early scene when Drew Barrymore's character has an epic bout of vomiting (off-screen), there's none of the "grossness" for which we all know and love (or hate) the Farrellys. ...
Pros: The Red Sox and a woman, dual passions. Cons: The ending of the film comes very quickly.
At one time in every man's life, an important decision needs to be made. Should you watch the baseball game and leave your woman on her own? Or should you instead be the chivalrous gentleman and put down the remote, get out of your recliner, and head to ...
Pros: Good Premise and some good jokes. Cons: Plot may be to thin for some.
Spring is the time of year when past failures of the fall are forgotten by most baseball fans. While hope springs eternal every spring for most fans, Boston Red Sox fans have long had a love/hate relationship with their team. This is large part to the ...
Pros: Fallon and Barrymore have chemistry Cons: A few moments drag.
The Movie: It's become fashionable to make fun of comedian Jimmy Fallon, as shows like "Family Guy" and "Simpsons" have taken aim at the former "Saturday Night Live" star. I think those people are...pretty much altogether right. I continue to think ...
Pros: Good plot, some good acting, "cute" story Cons: Not funny, Jimmy Fallon, not interesting, predictable, plots not played out well
I had mixed feelings about seeing Fever Pitch. I liked some of the Farrelly brother’s previous movies. They were generally funny. Although I like them, the commercials for Fever Pitch didn’t look too funny, I don’t like Jimmy Fallon, and I’m not a big ...
Pros: acting A++ by Fallon and Barrymore Cons: Ending seems unpolished and incomplete
The Trailer shows promising potential for a great romantic comedy but I was short changed in the end. Though I am very pleased with the overall performance by Jimmy Fallon (beyond the expectation for an SNL alumnus) and Drew Barrymore, there are ...
Pros: Fallon and Barrymore's chemistry. Cons: Too many scenes at Fenway, not enough development on major supporting characters.
As a child, "Ben" (Jimmy Fallon) fell in love with the Boston Red Sox and has been a member of the "Fenway Faithful" for years. Now he has grown up and has become a popular teacher who, while on a field trip with his class, meets "Lindsey" (Drew ...
Pros: Funny, cute, and about the Red Sox. Cons: Characters appear a little exaggerated.
Alright, I need to start off by saying that I am a huge Boston Red Sox fan. A few months into dating my girlfriend, I took her to see "Fever Pitch." Call me a hopeless romantic if you must. This movie served two purposes. One, it is a nice romantic ...
Pros: Jimmy Fallon, and the run of the Red Sox Cons: Drew Barrymore cast for wrong role
A romantic comedy about high-school teacher Ben Wrightman (Jimmy Fallon) and working professional Lindsey Meeks (Drew Barrymore). The story begins as Wrightman takes several of his top students to the "real" world to meet a professional that uses ...
Cinderella meets her Prince Charming by chicletnyc ,May 01 '09
Pros: Romantic comedy, cute, Red Sox lovers, funny, great chemistry between Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore Cons: Jimmy Fallon's character was obsessed about the Red Sox, storyline seemed unrealistic in some ways
This is a cute, lighthearted and enduring movie for Red Sox and Drew Barrymore fans. The movie has comedy, romance, and some light drama. I thought the director made Jimmy Fallon's character over the top about really being a Red Sox fan, to me he seemed obsessed by the Red Sox. How many 30 something men do you know decorate their rooms with all Red Sox memorabilia? All in all, Jimmy Fallon did a great acting job. This was a somewhat different role for Drew Barrymore. She played an uptight professional, but did it well.
Pros: none Cons: long, boring, unfunny, unconvincing, bad acting, writing.
zero stars
This is one boring and unfunny movie. I read the critic's raves and thought it must be decent. It was bad. I kept waiting for it to turn for the better but it didn't. Fallon is a crappy actor. Don't waste your time or money, not even when it gets to the dollar theaters.
