Pros: Great ending to a brilliant set of films, it all comes together now. Cons: Story cramed together towards ending, spotty storyline a couple times.
I decided to make an effort to go see the last of the movies in theaters having not seen the first two episodes. And I'm glad I did. In my opinion it is a vast improvment over the first two recently done. It puts together all the pieces we have come ...

Pros: Amazing special f/x
Story
Ian Mcdiarmid
Beautifully filmed
Cons: Some bad dialogue
Some bad acting
It had to end
I eagerly anticipated Star Wars Episode III. However I did go in with low expectations, I knew it would be better than Episodes I and II but I had a feeling I would be disappointed. I was wrong. From the moment it stars I was amazed. The special ...

Pros: Storyline completed
Cinematic effects
Action sequences Cons: Acting
I am not a diehard fan of the unrealistic and by extension sci-fi and by extension Star Wars – this review is from the angle of trying to make a non-believer a believer. Having already seen the other five episodes, Episode III was really a filler to fill ...

The Crowning Achievement of George Lucas' Space Opera
by houyhnhnm ,May 20 '05
Pros: Superb music and design along with competent acting come together in a great epic melodrama Cons: Visual overload for me
George Lucas has called the Star Wars cycle a space opera, and the expression is more fitting for this movie than any of its predecessors. First there is John Williams' music, which is mostly brooding and ominous. He is masterful at setting the tragic emotional tone of the movie. Then there are the twin tragedies of the fall of the Republic and Anakin Skywalker's fall from grace. These two stories are nicely tied together, not just placed side by side like a lot of movies with formulaic plot and subplot. The ins and outs of Skywalker's transformation aren't handled with deep psychological insight, but we're talking opera here, not Shakespeare, so I dont fault Lucas on that score. Finally there's the fabulous visuals. The Art Deco-inspired interiors are fascinating, and the outdoor environments are stunning. The climactic confrontation between Skywalker and his mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, takes place on a molten planet, surrounded by rivers of lava and with lava sprays in the background. The visual message is that Skywalker hasn't just turned to the dark side--he has descended into Hell. Rarely have story and setting worked together for such a dramatic effect.

Everything you expect it to be.
by sylamaster ,Jun 08 '05
Pros: Excellent effects and acting Cons: Nothing spectacular about the story
That's it, no trick endings, nothing special, a movie that fulfills your lowest expectations and nothing more.
I have to give it to the movie, it effectively closes the series, provides an excellent bridge between the new and old movies, and explains the birth of Darth Vader. However, at the end of the movie, I felt as if I needed more and nothing else was provided (perhaps the painful death of Jar Jar could have been included).
Overall the movie excellent effects, moving musical scores and excellent acting, but there was definitely nothing fantastic about the story line...but, at least the series has come to an end...now comes the day long marathons...bring them on...

A Long awaited film that was worth it.
by josmyth ,May 30 '05
Pros: Special effects and attention to detail was great. Cons: Rather long film.
I have waited so long to see this film that i couldn't wait to see it and i was not disappointed. It tied everything up nicely for episode four and the special effects were amazing. The acting was brilliant and I was completed transfixed to the screen. After the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones I was unsure of what to expect, but well done George Lucas you did not disappoint me, shame there will be no more.

Wow! Pure adrenalin rush on this one. Great story and CGI.
by big-scifi-fan ,May 28 '05
Pros: It hits on all cylinders for a totally engrossing climax. Cons: None
Obviously everyone knows what happens to Anakin before the movie begins. But how he gets there is a well crafted intense drama that unfolds bit by bit until the final climax. Lucas spares nothing in concluding the legend with the all pieces in place. The plot devised by Chancellor Palpatine to turn the young Jedi to the dark side has the right tone in drawing him away slowly from the Jedi teachings to be his disciple. Anakin real downfall is his ego. The fact the Jedis don't recognize how great he is builds his anger into hatred. Finally the desire for ultimate power that the dark side provides corrupts him totally.
The CGI effects are beyond anything Lucas has come up with before. ILM has hit it's stride again after the debacle in Episodes I and II.
A truly great ending to the series that changed scifi and movies as we know them now.

The Perfect Ending...and Beginning in the Saga
by gorocode ,May 20 '05
Pros: Stronger Acting. Excellent Story. Darth Vader. The Planets(Mustafar). Special FX. Everything!
Cons: Nothing. Nada. Zip.
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is a true moviegoing experience. It starts off slow and picks up the pace as when it also becomes by far, the darkest in the entire franchise. Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Ian McDiarmid give their best performances in the trilogy. The movie picks up so fast that watching it once is impossible. The first breath of Vader is unbelievable. I can't express more words about this film. It is the new masterpiece in the Star Wars movies.

stay home and watch HBO
by jeff7pt62 ,Jun 07 '05
Pros: special effects Cons: everything else
I've seen all of the series, and now Lucas has saved the worst for last. The entire move relies on CGI to carry it. The acting is weak at best, the story is obvious, but we all expected that. The characters are morons, they have no ability to think and understand the reality of their situation. I guess, if your 12, the movie is fun, but have to endure the jamaican pimp ( Ja Ja binks)and now the evil emporer that NO ONE else sees, the final conclusion of seeing Darth born was, at best, pathetically disapointing.

Unfortunately disappointing
by inditarian ,May 29 '05
Pros: Yoda, of course. Very pretty sets. The evil Chancellor Palpatine. Cons: Script. Acting.
I went into the movie expecting bad script, acting, and fantastic visuals. And yet... how is it possible to mess this movie up so badly? This movie could have been so very much better with just small improvements here and there.
The story provided a good middle movie. The sets were beautiful. Far too much has been made about Darth Vader's transformation and the birth of the twins.
I would advise seeing it on the big screen, for the impressiveness of the visuals. Just don't expect too much.

Darth is Born
by JGroetsch ,Jun 03 '05
Pros: Come on... it's Star Wars! Cons: Only a few minor part of the story kept out.
Anakin Skywalker takes his journey into the Dark Side. From the Dark becomes Darth.
There were a few things that I would have liked to see in the film, which were not in it, one of them being at the end of Yoda taking his trip to what would become his home, where Luke finds him in the following Star Wars.
Don't get me wrong though, because in my eyes, the movie perfectly connected all 6 to form the complete trilogy. For the most part, it lived up to my expectations and was entertaining.
It is sad that this one will close the story once and for all, knowing we will never again see a new Star Wars film become part of the trilogy. It is still possible though, but as for practical, doubt it, but only time will tell.
Even though most people have already seen it, I would recommend those who haven't to take the journey. Go for the ride!

Good for most part
by stinka ,May 30 '05
Pros: Stunning visuals. Story stayed focused. Cons: The beautiful & talented Natalie is reduced to a worry-wart crybaby. Hayden is a stiff.
George Lucas had to hit a home run with this movie after failing with "Phantom" and "Clones". He comes pretty close. "Sith" served it's purpose, and that was to demonstrate how and why Anakin became Darth Vader. He gave us several reasons why, which I really liked.
I was disappointed in the stiff acting, and Lucas's terrible dialog for Padme and Anakin. The viewer would find it hard to believe that these two were in love. There is no chemistry at all. And there is nothing Natalie Portman can do to save the scenes she has with Hayden Christiansen. The guy drains the life out of a scene.

NO MUSIC!!
by chebrew2000 ,May 27 '05
Pros: NO MUSIC!! Cons: NO MUSIC!!!
Is it just me, or did anyone else notice the lack of John Williams' music? The dialog could have been better in the film especially as Palpatine turned Aniken, but there should have been Star Wars background music during the lava fight. And as Aniken went around destroying and betraying the Jedi, his treachery would have been GREATLY enhanced and made more palpable if there were sinister music in the background. I hope Lucas rectifys this GROSS oversight when they release it on DVD. I'm just really disappointed. :(

do or do not;--there is no try
by dkkpersonal ,May 20 '05
Pros: American entertainment at its best Cons: who cares about flaws? it's George Lucas!
Come on, it's Star Wars, for goodness sake. You either love the whole wonderful world of Lucas or you nitpick the absurd slurpy script mumbled by actors who have been told they are working on a different movie (bodysnatchers, night of the living dead come to mind)
But if you love six foot tall furry ape/dogs (Let the wookie win!) and little green people (or whatever Yoda is) and want to try your hair in that great cinnamon bun style, then go see this move--- a couple of times. Take your kids (hide their faces on the volcano planet where you know who gets pretty well toasted) and spouses (even if they are Star Wars nay-sayers because this is history and culture. You can't miss it. See it now before they "enhance" it to make it better.

Episode III excellent entertainment with political undertones.
by dr_e ,May 20 '05
Pros: Completed the storyline - good performances from all. Cons: Poor medical knowledge storyline on pure technical and 'Force' grounds.
Lucas has pulled it off and restored the quality of the Star Wars experience. There are some flaws, however: The medical premise of Annakin's fear of Padme dying in childbirth is inconsistent with such a technically advanced society and in a Universe with the 'Force' concept which should be able to make childbirth much easier. A young Jedi concerned about such topics arguably would be able to research the likelihood of death in childbirth and seek assistance in confidence to safeguard his wife without resorting to the dark side. Restricting all medical care to smart robots has been a persistent flaw in the Star Wars series - no live species involved in medical care - no use of the Force to heal - except for the one Sith Lord who could cheat death and the vague reference to the immaterial immortality (audio only) at the end?
Of special interest were the references to the death of democracy and the parallels with current events in the US Senate; the secrecy of our current White house occupants and the trend towards empire. Kudos to Lucas.
