Pros: acting, plot, direction, structure, cinematography Cons: script doesn't quite balance emotion, setup, and action, so the duration suffers.

Pros: good cast (believeable characters,) nice special effects... plus, doesn't everyone love a good super hero? Cons: The beginning can get a bit tedious. Some parts may be confusing.
I saw Batman Begins last night. It was, in some ways, a generic comic book super hero movie: 1) It helped to have my brother with me, who's read up on the comics and could remember all the character's names and just explain the semi-iffy spots. I ...
Pros: More true to the source material than any previous Batman movie. Cons: Katie Holmes.
I knew it would be good, but I am very happy to say it was VERY GOOD. In my opinion, it is the best Batman movie yet. My previous favorite of the bunch was Batman Returns. Christopher Nolan weaved a wonderful tale of a flawed hero, introducing the ...
Pros: Compelling story, characters we can empathize with, fun and exciting Cons: A few "duh" moments that make you think screnewriters are very very dumb?
Overall enjoyable but (spoiler follows) some of the same flaws that almost all Hollywood action movies seem to have: incredibly stupid parts that distract from the suspension of disbelief, predictable formulaic plot, and a been there, done that tedious ...
Pros: Fantastic story, brilliantly executed. Looking forward to the sequels. Cons: The Bat-voice seems a bit overdone.
Like most Batman fans, I was severely displeased by Batman + Robin's genital close-ups, Bat-nipples and ice-skates. I nearly stood and cried out "Mr. Freeze is a scientist, not a Schwarzennegger!" I was disheartened that not even Tommy Lee Jones ...
Pros: This is how batman should have been made from the start dark and grown up. Cons: none
Director Christopher Nolan. Main Cast Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman Liam Neeson as Ducard . Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth. Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawson . Cillian Murphy as Dr. Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow. Gary ...
Pros: Cast, special effects, action scenes Cons: The film constantly feels like it just started.
An interesting way to go about a franchise: instead of making a sequel or a prequel in typical fashion, restart the series even after the previous installments were successful. This is exactly what happens with Batman Begins. This movie has NOTHING to do ...
Pros: Attention to detail and story
Batman is taken seriously
Thoughtfully cast. Cons: Wish it was longer, but you have to end a film at some point.
A few hours ago, I left the movie theater, so satisfied. A huge thanks to the makers of Batman Begins! I'm writing this, bearing in mind that I don't want to spoil it for those that have not seen it. Batman fans will see it, so I don't have to ...
Pros: A Better Batman, The Cast, The Darkness needed Cons: Sometimes preachy and dragging.
It's time for the Resurrection of the Franchise, its time to breath in new Oxygen for DC comics, A Comic Superhero to movie making Genre which has been dominated by rival Marvel for a better part of more then half a decade and humbled them, Its time both ...
Pros: Great cast; New characters; All new gadgets for Batman; Bat suit and Bat mobile facelifts. Cons: None that I can think of.
Batman Begins is the 2005 version of the original Batman series. It has new characters, new plots, and puts a whole new spin on things. The original story IS in there though. Bruce Wayne is orphaned; and becomes owner of Wayne empire and a Gotham City ...
Pros: Christian Bale's acting, Michael Caine, explanations for criminals, Batcave, Batsuit, Batman's training. Cons: initial storyline, some acting, and the fact that it ends too early.
I have been an avid fan of Batman and his legacy since the initial Burton film. When the last movie came out (Batman and Robin), I thoroughly enjoyed it (although most critics would disagree with me), but I mentally closed the door on any other Batman ...
Wow. That sums up my first reaction to the opening scene alone. No frills, no tracing a big bat logo, no Danny Elfman music, just a huge ochestral hit with a bunch of bats going nuts. That short introduction almost sent me right over the edge of my ...
Pros: Nearly every element of this movie Cons: Katie Holmes= Weakest Link. She's OK, but not good.
I am glad that the batman franchise has returned with a vengace! Batman Begins is reborn as a darker, more psychologically involved movie than any of it's predecessors. Christian Bale fits the suit very well and the characters who surround him are ...
Pros: Was more true to the actual Batman comics; exciting; attractive actors; great talent pool. Cons: The ONLY "con": Katie Holmes and Cillian Murphy seem too YOUNG for their roles.
This is my VERY FIRST Epinions.com review, so please bear with me . . . . BATMAN BEGINS is by far the very best Batman movie -- ever. This is my opinion, of course -- and I'm sure others may disagree. But I have found that the more I watch it, the ...
Pros: Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan Cons: None that I can think of
Batman Begins is the way it should have began more than 15 years ago in its modern day motion picture birth. This is the dark knight that many of today's youths have grown accustomed to and have longed to see, diametrically opposed to the feel-good ...
Pros: The best Batman movie so far. Lots of amazing action scenes. Cons: some acting is bad, repetitive dialogue
I had heard so much about Batman Begins that I knew I needed to finally break down and watch this movie. One of the reasons that I had not seen this movie is that I suffered from a form of Batman burnout. I had enough of guys running around in costumes ...
Pros: Very entertaining, original, different from all the other batman movies Cons: Starts out kind of slow for some people
Batman Begins is by far one of the best films I've seen this year. They finally found a different way to tell an action hero's story. The story of Batman is very accurate and they managed to tell his story in a realistic way. All of his weapons, and ...
Pros: Awesome Movie! Cons: Can't stand how the girl talks out of the side of her mouth!
There have been many movies made about batman, some good, and some really just suck. This has got to be the best Batman movie ever made. It's a perfect blend of action with a few funny moments thrown in there. There are certain things a good action movie ...
Pros: Stayed true to the comic
Looked good
Good plot
Cons: Setting changed too much
Ending little ridiculous
The movie is the best superhero movie in a long time. The movie starts a little slow a the begining but you almost have to explain the story line of batman. But once he is batman the story nor the action slow down at all. The movie kept my interest for ...
Pros: The cast minus Katie. Cons: Lack of continuity.
OMG! Could this movie ever really be more inane? This is yet another movie with a smashing cast and turns out to be something that I could turn off, and easily without really wondering what is going to happen next. (I did, however, watch it all the way ...
With 'Batman Begins' Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale have managed, between them, to reinvent and energise a floundering franchise which most people believed to be well past its sell-by date. The garish sets and trashy gags are long gone as Nolan ...
Pros: A lot of action, cool effects, good acting. Cons: First 20 minutes lacking substance and stupid - NOT FOR SMALL CHILDREN. Dragged somewhat.
For those of you who haven't seen this movie, I don't want to say anything that might give it away. I'll try my best not to. However, do NOT take a young child to see this movie! My youngest child is 8 and found it a bit too scary. For reference, ...
After the dismal failure that was Batman & Robin, the WB decided to go back to the drawing board. Which has given us this great reivnetion of the series. Christian Bale, known for his heavy method style, transforms himself into The Dark Knight ...
Pros: Dark mood, explained background Cons: dot on theater screen, almost tried to be too serious
First let me say that I enjoyed this movie. I am a fan of the two older Tim Burton Batman movies (1 and 2) and I was afraid that I would not like this newest installment. The 3rd and 4th Batman movies were horrible and I was afraid that the industry was ...
Pros: New costumes, more realistic story, better actors Cons: Nothing
Okay, so Batman's back for the fifth time. Phew! That's a lot of Batman movies! This time around Batman/Bruce Wayne is played by Christian Bale, a newcomer to the Batman throne, however, Bale does provide a fairly decent Batman, nonetheless. Joining Bale ...
Pros: Looks good. Half decent performaces. Creepy villain. Cons: Utterly boring! Depressingly toned. Drags on too long.
This movie started off well but became extremely boring when it got to about a third of the way in. It turned into a drag to watch and made me bored enough to sneak into another theatre to watch something else. Maybe I didnt really like it because I wasnt really a batman fan. However the performances by the actors in the film were half decent and the evil villain was quite creepy.
This one outdid them all! by bug_off_2 ,Jun 16 '05
Pros: Action filled, at times humorous, also touching. Cons: Jiggly action shots, and the theater had the volume up too loud.
Batman Begins was a very good movie. My husband is a complete Batman junkie--comic book reader/fanatic. But we BOTH enjoyed this movie--but I loved the other ones too. This one was a little more mature to me for some reason.
One thing I hate was the extreme close ups of action shots-you can't tell who's hitting who. Details are lost.
Go see it if you're not too cynical and are able to see it for what it is--fantasy. If you're expecting realism, go to a museum instead.
Probably the Best 'Superhero' Movie by riverrafter247 ,Jul 11 '05
Pros: Christian Bale; Michael Caine; Morgan Freeman; fantastic cinematography; exceptional pacing; Cillian Murphy Cons: Katie Holmes; Rutger Hauer as a parody of an evil
Can a movie about a comic book character make you actually forget its roots? When the movie is "Batman Begins",and the lead role is played by Christian Bale, the answer is a resounding "yes".
The movie takes Batman's background in an entirely new direction, one which explores how he got the training to be who he becomes (and the questionable morality related to that training). Bale doesn't get lost in the duality of his soul, as Michael Keaton did in "Batman Returns"; instead, he acknowledges that there is darkness in himself. What's important, he opines, is what "a person does with themself".
This movie is not overly dependent on gadgets. Initially, Bruce Wayne ventures out in a black outfit and black ski mask, and rappelling gear. Soon, however, he draws on his training and decides that he has to inspire fear as well as be efficient in his actions. Thus the Bat is born.
The only jarring note was Katie Holmes. Perhaps one day she'll mature, but for now, she acts like a 15 year old in a 25 year old body.
Pros: Great actors, great story, great special effect, bale rocks Cons: Not very realistic.
This is one of best batman movies. Bale, Neson, Caine and Katie Holmes makes great movie. So many stars this gotta be good movie and it is. My favorite actor in movie is Rutger Hauer. Effects are best and beginning of batman is very interesting.
Batman Begins brings us the best Bruce Wayne yet!!! It's a MUST see! by joblythe ,Jul 04 '05
Pros: Christian Bale and Michael Caine make a great team. It's dramatic and face paced! Cons: Katie Holmes is like a wet mop. Some scenes go on a little too long.
He may not be the best Batman (Michael Keaton still takes that title), but Christian Bale rocks this film. Katie Holmes brings nothing to the flick but a crooked smile and lack of energy.
It was enthralling from start to finish - even at almost 2.5 hours.
I strongly recommend this one to all you superhero-movie-lovers like myself.
Pros: Directing, Great story about Batman himself Cons: Not a big name villian
A great story to the first days of Bruce Wayne. It was a complete story from beginning to end. The only problem I had with the Batman movie of old with Michael Keton was that movie seemed more like the Joker story than the Batman story. This is the first time we see and go through the story about Batman and how he was trained. We have all seen the tragedy but not the training. The darker turn taken by the director to make this a more realistic story was absolutely perfect.
The first Batman blew away the campy 60s, 'Begins' thrusts into the ultra-dark 2000s by gibbo_ca ,Nov 02 '05
Pros: Sinister, brooding atmosphere, tight, smart plotting, solid performances, strong build to climax, emphasis on 'realism'. Cons: Katie Holmes feels lightweight and somewhat disposable in the company of the other heavy-hitters.
West & Ward camped it up for the 60s. Schumacher, Keaton, Clooney & Kilmer anatomically amped it up for the 90s. Now Nolan & Bale bury it in the terrorist nightmare of the 2000s.
This is not a prequel to the first four batman movies (unless you're talking strictly chronologically) - instead it is a wholesale re-imagining of the entire tapestry that this icon figure inhabits. Nolan strives foremost to attain a believable reality in which to allow Bale's teenage uber-misfit to explore the darkest corners of the human psyche, looking for meaning and finding vengeance instead.
It's easy to see this movie as a reflection of our collective reaction to 'world terror' - to fight fire with fire. Gone are the neon-lit batmobiles and drole one-liners, replaced by mass hysteria and re-sprayed Hum-Vee's on steroids.
In many ways this is the truest interpretation yet of both the original alienated persona from the comic books and the more recent gritty existentialism of the graphic novels.
All in all a fantastic must-see movie that took a wallowing franchise and turned it into a lean-mean scalpel that cuts to the heart of the world we see around us.
Batman Begins...GREAT: He's truly the Dark Knight in this one by warlock2004 ,Jun 18 '05
Pros: Bale! Script! beautiful, flowing story. Superb acting all around. Editing was top-notched. Wonderfully produced. Cons: Camera too close to the fighting scenes. Blurred the images. Made action difficult to follow.
This may very well be THE BEST SUPERHERO movie ever made. The script - and Christian Bale - captured the "Dark" of the Dark Knight magnificently. Every aspect of the story told a small story onto itself; this was no cheap pop corn flick. This is the Batman that I grew up reading about; sinister and brooding, not flashy and empty like the last three Batman movies (remember Jim Carey and Arnold). The acting was among the best I had ever seen for a summer movie.
I also liked the way the movie went about setting up the potential villains for the follow-up movie, in the final scene. Way to go NOlan!
Batman Should not have Begun by microbrew22 ,Dec 25 '05
Pros: Non Cons: Everything
This movie was so slow that I thought it was in real time!! The first 40 minutes deals with how he became Batman...go pick a blue flower and climb a mountain, then get you butt kicked by Liam Nielson...?? Next we find out that his parents were murdered by a man in a dark alley...wow I never knew that!!! I fell asleep after the first 55 minutes to find out that there was still an hour to go. Don't waste your time on this yawner...I'm gettin' sleepy just thinking about it!!
An Excellent, Fresh New Beginning by jeadm ,Jun 29 '05
Pros: Refreshingly redone, strong performances, excellent storyline. Cons: None, other than smaller children may not appreciate the modern Batman (yet).
Batman Begins learns the lessons of the past "Batman" movies, as well as those from the newer generation of superheroes to hit the big screen.
This is a very well done movie, a concept that starts the franchise anew from scratch, and Batman is better for it! Performances are excellent, the mood appropriately dark but not excessively so. There's a tendency to criticize Hollywood for not doing anything original, but if they remade other staples as well as this one, we wouldn't care! You will enjoy this movie.
My seven year old son was excited when we told him we were going to see Batman Begins. I was not, and was dreading yet another caped crusade.
However, half way through this movie i was excited, this was original and not filled with the usual Hollywood schemas. The mood was dark and sultry, the action complemented the story line. I felt involved, and committed to Bruce's journey. My son, however, had fallen asleep.
Bruce's return to Gotham, marked a dramatic change in the movie, Hollywood was back. Along came the quips and witty side remarks. The hero was forming, and so was his ego. The action kept coming, and the improbable scenarios developed, to the final pitiful crescendo set against a Virtual Chicago Skyline.
Batman Begins: Truly The Best One Yet by marc26 ,Sep 04 '05
Pros: Great movie that's not afraid to restrict itself. Cons: Not impreseed with the villian in a flick that's to long.
When Warner Brothers decided to bring Batman back to the big screen, everyone prayed that it wouldn't be the fiasco that was Batman and Robin. Skip ahead to a few months later and we are told that it's going to be based on Batman: Year One, everyone applauded and cheered. Why? because the comic was written by Frank Miller, a genius in the comic world.
Of course that meant going back to his dark roots which of course they did. What you get from that, is a beautifel, dark, gritty, Gotham City filled with crime and criminals which of course you would expect when Bruce Wayne has been gone for ten years.
Of course, for the first hour of the movie, it doesn't even feel like your even watching a Batman because bale (wonderfully cast), doesn't don the cape and cowl for the first hour.
Pros: action scenes, the plot and the acting Cons: It was a bit dull at first
It was quite the movie to watch. The plot was a tad bit lame at first, but in the end I can truly say that I enjoyed watching the entire movie. The action scenes, the acting, and the overall plot was good. Its no wonder its number one at the box office.
Pros: Answered many questions as a Batman fan. Cons: May be slow at points to children.
I debated on whether or not to see this movie because I am burnt out on all the different Batman Movies in recent years from Keaton to Kilmer. I am glad I saw this movie because it answered many questions I did not even know to ask like what did Batman chose Bats as his symbol, where did he learn all those superhuman moves, where the Batmobile came from, and many more?
I took my 9 year old son to this movie. He enjoyed most of it. Some good conversation about values and morals can be brought about after seeing this movie with a child.
defecates on all other batmans from a great height by illiya12 ,Jul 13 '05
Pros: MORGAN FREEMAN, LIAM NEESON. Original weapons. Fast pace Cons: some developments slightly implausible
I have never been a huge batman fan but have watched all of them at some point or another, usually because of my brother. My friend tricked me into seeing this film but now i am glad that he is so sly. From the actors, to the graphics, to the gadgets, to the plot - i was more than impressed. Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson - superb bonus, two of my favourite actors whose reputation i was afraid would be soiled by taking part in yet another tacky, even if entertaining, episode of batman but that was not to be the case. Definitely recommended even if you have hated all of the other batmans.
I can't figure out why people keep giving this movie a good review. Are we that blinded by special effects and cool gadgets that we are willing to overlook things like acting and plot?
I see the movie got almost top ratings on this site. On Flixster, I gave it a 2/5, but people in my buddy group gave it a 4/5 and overall it got 4.5/5. Here again, why? I see that I am in the minority, but I want the characters introduced in the plot to actually have a purpose and maybe some... What do you call it... Acting.
Wow, is this really Batman?!!? by cylina ,Dec 29 '05
Pros: Action packed, story driven. Cons: A bit too long
What a movie! I am a simple girl with simple tastes and this movie wowed me. I expected the same old same old with the Batman series but this one was different than the rest. Even those that are not a fan of Batman would like this one, action packed and more story line driven that the silliness usually employed by Batman.
My kids loved it, parents loved it, and best of all my husband really liked it too!
The latest installment to the batman saga shows where batman comes from, how he became batman, and why he chose the bat. looking at one of the last scene, It would seem that they are going to completely reinvent the franchise. In my opinion Christian Bale is the best Batman yet and he is the second to be asked to play the dark knight twice. Cristopher Nolan even adds the darkest appearance to the franchise since Tim Burton. All in all i give two thumbs up.
The Best Batman movie to date!! by spcasey ,Jul 07 '05
Pros: Great acting, and plot twists. Cons: Leaves you wanting more from the rest of the Batman movies!
This Batman has far topped the past ones! The Scarecrow as the main villan was a great twist. The previews never really showed who or what the villan was going to be and I was pleasantly surprised to see this. Katie Holmes was also a good female co-star for this movie compared to the corny blondes of the past. This gave good insight as to where Commishener Gordon came from and showed how him and Batman/Bruce Wayne became teammates. This movie was filled with good acting and antagonizing suspense. Previous Batman movies have been poorly written and carried out. This one made me a Batman fan again!! Plus, I got in free!!
Pros: Setting Cons: Story line leading up to old Batman movies
I personally did not like this movie. One thing that really bothered me about this movie was the fact that Bruce Wayne had to go to another country to figure out who he was and then he acquired numerous martial arts skills. From watching the previous Batman movies, I figured that he fell down a hole, a bat scared him, and disguised himself as a bat to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. It just didn't make sense to me that he would go through a whole heap of adventures just to figure out who he was.
This is one batman movie I've seen that's very boring! The reception of the movie is so dim and Katie Holmes's acting is very dull. She's not effective for the role. In fairness, the effects used are believable and have really convinced the audience on how Batman really begins and evolved as a legendary superhero.
Batman Begins Rocks out loud by markwslay ,Jul 18 '05
Pros: Christian Bale, morgan freeman and the batmobile make this movie Cons: not enough buttkicking action scenes
I saw this movie in georgia at an imax theater. The overall quality of it was outstanding Christian Bale was a great choice to play bruce wayne/ batman and the batmobile made me wish i had one of my own it was in my opinion the best batman movie of all times tobad they didnt have a batjet
Pros: Storyline, special effects, lots of action, the Batmobile. Cons: Slight difference in one part of the movie
I really enjoyed this movie. This one is the best yet since the first Batman. Special effects were great. Storyline was great. I was a little dissapointed that a couple of the flashback moments differed from how they showed it in the first Batman movie but that was ok. Overall it was great!
I was brought upon it by my friends to watch this film, Batman Begins. Since I haven't seen a batman film in years from being turned off by others, I wasn't so exited to watch it.
This movie was extremely good!! I loved the dark settings, and of course as everyone else knows it, the card in the end :)
I also enjoyed seeing more famous people playing the smaller roles. I loved this performance.
Pros: Christian Bale,Morgan Freeman, and the bat mobile make this movie Cons: Not enough Butt stomp action scenes
I went to Georgia and saw this movie it was great Christian Bale was a great pick for Bruce Wayne/Batman the soundtrack was also great in my Opinion this is the best batman movie of all times
