Pros: July's acting, script, and direction, the ensemble performers Cons: Treads familiar ground; certain situations may be unsettling
If people can make products to make our lives easier, why is love so hard? Has the increase in technology made it even harder to meet people face to face? Those are two of the main questions posed in Me And You And Everyone We Know, a 2005 ...
The 2005 Sundance Film Festival not only marked the return of such indie stalwarts like Noah Baumbach and Don Roos but introduced new filmmakers in the process. Among them was Craig Brewer for his hip-hop film Hustle & Flow that helped start a ...
Pros: Wonderful child roles, delightful humor, off-beat Cons: Maybe too sexually explicit for some
For a movie that pretty much swept through the independent film festivals, winning at Sundance, Cannes, Philadelphia, Newport and LA, there seems to have been little buzz about this creative gem. Whatever I can do to rectify that is worth it. This ...
Pros: Acting, writing, directing. Cons: Can be a little tedious.
It might go without saying that a film called Me and You and Everyone We Know doesn't have much of a plot, for its title holds everything within. You see me in this film. You see yourself. You see some other people that you may or may not know. ...
Pros: Unique and timely subject, often very funny, well-acted. Cons: Too quirky in spots, and (tasteful) scenes of juvenile sexuality could offend some.
When I was a sophomore in college I became involved with an engineering major. A few weeks after we started going out she had to go out west for an internship, so we decided to continue the relationship as best we could, resulting in large telephone ...
Pros: One very hilarious scene with Tracy Wright Cons: This is re-hashed 'Happiness' and 'Welcome to the Dollhouse' from Miranda July's perspective
Miranda July writes, directs and co-stars in this drama about contemporary life. It is in the tradition of 'Welcome to the Dollhouse' and 'Happiness'. Sort of a nouveau minimalist plot which looks at contemporary life based on everyday happenings. I wish ...
Pros: Lots of great scenes, funny, real Cons: Seems a bit awkward in the beginning, but once it gets going...
To me, there seem to be three types of great movies. Some you realize are great the first time you watch them, others take repeated viewings to realize their greatness. Still some don’t seem great while watching them, but afterwards you realize you ...
Pros: Refreshingly original and unpredictable. Cons: The opening scene may disturb some.
Me & You And Everyone We Know 4.5 / 5 Oddball characters who are strangely familiar to real people we know attempt to make personal connections with others in today's real, but isolating world. This is almost the first sentence of the film's ...
Pros: acting, filming, rich color, honesty, different Cons: child sexuality thrown in for shock value, lacks strong plot
This is a film that has been given rave reviews and said to be very sharp and brilliant by many people who would like to think of themselves as film buffs. A true film buff would not rate it highly for reasons I will go into later in the review. For ...
(THIS REVIEW CAN ALSO BE FOUND ON BEST-PRICE.COM) How I came across this film: By coincidence. My best friend called me and said: Hey, yesterday I got this DVD from the video shop. Very good movie! We loved it. You can have it if you bring it ...
Are you a bit stranger than most people? Then consider this indie film. by ntiviv ,Mar 17 '06
Pros: Thinking caps encouraged for this slightly twisted meander. Cons: A minor story line is scatological. Leave your prudishness elsewhere.
I adore this movie. It is deliberately slow -- be sure to take your patience pills. "Me and You" is best appreciated with some thought, unlike most contemporary theatrical releases. The slyly original story line has no explosions, no violence, and no slam-bang chases; the equivalent screen time is devoted to the development of curious and complex characters. Unfortunately, this film was way too quirky to make a zillion dollars in the theaters. Discover it at home.
And where did they find these unknown actors? Keep an eye on their careers -- several of them could have their names above the title some day. Casting agents, take note.
