Pros: Very interesting story, interesting and enjoyable performances. Cons: The movie was a bit confusing at times.
I rented this film with no expectations and no idea of what it was about. It looked like one of those independent films that I either love or hate. Elijah Wood looked promising, gazing at me through closed meditative eyes behind thick glasses from a ...

Pros: Story, music, all performances, balance of humor and contemplation Cons: That it is only 100 mins long
I haven’t had much luck with my Netflix picks lately. Some of them I didn’t even finish (Shopgirl and Neverland) and some I finished but just didn’t get well enough to review, so it was well past time for me to see one that knocked my ...

Pros: Excellent performances, outstanding direction, beautiful scenery Cons: Nothing
I've always thought that Liev Schreiber was a talented (if underrated) actor, and with Everything Is Illuminated, he's shown that he's got some formidable directing chops, too. The Story The plot of the film is simple. Elijah Wood ...

Pros: Elijah Wood as stoic and strange American Jew; comical language problems; Ukrainian countryside; engaging plot Cons: Some glitches but nothing too disturbing; some lack of clarity in plot may irk
Elijah Wood plays a young Jewish-American in search of his roots in this oddball film, basically a roadtrip back in the Ukraine in an old (GDR) Trabant. He makes contact with a bickering three-generation family who run "Heritage Tours", to take "rich ...

Pros: Funny, moving and beautifully shot. Cons: Ending is a little weak.
"Everything is Illuminated" tells the story of a young man who journeys to a small town in the Ukraine to find the woman who saved his grandfather’s life from the Nazis during World War II. With such a serious-sounding synopsis, it may be surprising ...

Pros: Beautifully filmed and acted, with a very enjoyable storyline Cons: Would've enjoyed more book plotlines but it may have made the movie too long...
Everything is Illuminated, adapted for film by Liev Schrieber based on the excellent book by Jonathan Safran Foer, is probably one of the most enjoyable balances of drama and comedy I've seen in quite some time. I remember being disappointed the ...

Pros: The plot, the visuals, the spot-on funny comments Cons: Draws heavily of pro-, or anti-, semitic biases
The movie is not a run-of-mill kind that become commercial hits, or applauded by critics to become Oscar winners. I learnt that the movie is based on a novel only after I had watched it. So, I had no prior perceptions when I watched the movie. Still, I ...

a movie postcard
by camia ,Feb 06 '07
Pros: characters compliments each other, the cinematography is awesome Cons: it helped with word translations, since some characters spoke a foreign language.
i saw this movie as a recommendation by a friend of mine.since i was still in awe of The Lord of the Rings and Elijah Wood.
the movie starts with the narration of Elijah's character and the search for that one family member who doesn't have much memories he was able to collect.
the background of the movie is gorgeous, like a postcard especially with the driving and outside scenes.
