Like most people I worry constantly about the ever growing menace of identity theft. It seems the horror stories about people almost losing everything to some unprincipled ner’er-do-well are multiplying like ants upon a discarded stale potato chip. And ...
Pros: Inexpensive, fast, effective Cons: Can only handle 12-20 sheets at once
Every day I take the trek to the shared mailboxes for my apartment complex, and most of those days I'm disappointed to find nothing important. Very rarely, though, do I receive absolutely nothing -- it seems like I always receive a couple annoying...
Pros: no maintenence required, very easy to use Cons: no cons that i have found yet
This product is very good when it comes to eliminating junk mail. I use it to shred credit card applications that i receive. Basically every piece of junk mail I get goes directly to the shredder. Shredding these documents is a step that must be taken in...
Pros: Price. Cons: Develops miserable problems in a short while.
The shredded paper bunches up around the cutters. It requires a small screwdriver to scrape out. Eventually the shreds wrap around the bar between the cutters. As they gain mass they force the plastic insertion guides out of alignment, preventing any...
Pros: Worked fine for three years in home use. Cons: NO parts available for a three year old machine.
Shredder worked just fine, but, after three years we started getting paper "jams". I took it apart and there is two plastic pieces that keep the shredded paper from rolling around the two cutter rollers. One of these plastic pieces had four "teeth" broken off. These are just cheap pieces of molded plastic that should not cost more than $5.00 each if that much. That is if you could purchase them. I called the factory and there are no parts available for a machine that is three years old. So for lack of a $5 part you get to throw the whole shredder in the garbage. Never would be the next time I purchase a Fellowes product.
Pros: Durability, can shred multiple sheets and credit cards. Cons: Have to pull shreds of paper out from under shredders after each use.
This is an ok shredder. We shred a lot of paper and it has held up very well. The only thing I don't like about this shredder is that the paper gets clogged under the shredders. Since we shred so much, I have to clean this every time I shred anything and have to pull out clogs of shredded paper. I find it very inconvenient.
Decent straight cut shredder by jones_ken_us ,Feb 21 '04
Pros: Fast, quiet, robust straight cut shredder. Cons: Strips are wider than I thought they would be.
I read reviews about the cheaper shredders so I'm glad I stepped up to this one. It's very robust and eats just about anything I put into it including credit cards.
Features:
-12 pp capacity
-straight cuts about 1/4 inch wide
-large regular trash can style container
-auto shut off
-reversable motor for jams
I couldn't justify the extra 40 bucks for the cross cut model, and I think the straight cut will require less maintenance over time. My main concern was someone fishing credit card numbers out of the trash, and straight cut is good enough.
My only beef is I wish the strips were a bit narrower.
2006 update- this shredder has proven to be very dependable, I think mainly due to the straight cut design. It is strong enough to shred a dozen pages at once, but not quite strong enough to shred a data cd.
