Pros: The absolute crown prince of freshwater fishing. Cons: It takes time to learn to fish them, and sometimes they just plain don't bite.
Steelhead fishermen are the most fanatical, eccentric people you'll ever raise an eyebrow at. You can easily spot the steelheader at your local tackle shop. He's the wind-burned guy with a couple dozen packs of Gamakatsu or Vision hooks in his basket,...

Pros: Big, hard-battling fish Cons: Very difficult to catch, somewhat strong taste (good smoked)
It was cold, a mind-numbing, knee-knocking, freeze-the-coffee-while-it's-still-hot kind of cold. Still, throngs of fishermen lined the banks of the Snake River at Lower Granite Dam. Numerous driftwood fires provided little relief. My back to one fire,...

Pros: The wildest, most acrobatic fish that you will ever chase. Cons: Too many "A River Runs Through It" posers on the rivers
I have been told that the only person with less sense that an elk hunter is a steelhead fisherman. Having been both, I obviously take that statement as pure jealous fiction. I have pursued the wily steelhead trout for the past 30 years. Having a father...

Pros: Tough fighters and beautiful fish Cons: tough to hook and bring in
The problem with steel head is that you need to trek to find them. You can not just go to the local brook and expect to land one. Even when I make the hike to an outback river it is not garrunteed that you will catch one. I hook a steelhead about...

Pros: Most exciting fish to catch. Cons: Can be difficult conditions to fish in.
In many years of fishing, there is no other fish that has captured me the way the silver bullet of the river has. I live in Michigan and have the fortunate opportunity to be able to pursue this magnificent game fish nearly all year long. I believe it...
