"Good-bye, God, I'm Goin' to Bodie." Visit What's Left of a Real Life Deadwood

by jsquarejj Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Feb 16 '05
Pros: A time capsule of life in a Gold Rush boomtown. Great photography subject.
Cons: Off the beaten track. Hot or cold, dusty. No services.
Bodie State Historic Park is one of the gems of the California state park system. Located in the isolated high desert country northeast of Yosemite National Park, it is a time capsule of a late 1800s boomtown. If you've seen the HBO series ...

Splendid shadows

by remf2112 , Jul 27 '01
Pros: Probably the best ghost town in the west
Cons: Hard to access, cannot get refreshments or go potty except at parking area
I first heard of Bodie, California in the late 60s. Charles Kuralt did an "On the Road" segment from there. It fascinated me, as did any real western story back then in my early adolescence. The thought of a large ghost town still in good condition...

Come, walk among ghosts in Bodie

by JoeEkaitis Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jul 24 '00
Pros: A real ghost town, maintained in a state of "arrested decay"
Cons: Often unreachable during the winter.
Bodie State Historic Park, off of Highway 395 in the High Sierras between Bishop, California and the California/Nevada state line, is a place where spirits still wander the dusty streets and abandoned buildings. There are no ice cream parlors, souvenir...

Interesting Dusty Little Town

by mahadragon , Jun 28 '07
Pros: Neat experience if you've never seen a ghost town before.
Cons: Long drive from Yosemite Valley, fees, expected more.
Spent half a day at Bodie State Historic Park. Took about 45 mins from Lee Vining. Paid the $3 day-use fee, and then another $2 for the Self-Guided tour. The self guided tour starts at the entrance of town and takes you down one of the side streets. ...

Bodie--some added words

by VickeyK , Jul 24 '00
Pros: Authentic, living history of the Old West
Cons: Can be hot and dry for kids
Bodie, the ghost town, is indeed a look at another time, as well as at the ravages of time. It was a town of 10,000 people in 1880, so there is plenty to see. Banks, churches, homes, stores, hotels--even the remains of the redlight district are there...

Bodie, the Living Ghost Town

by writer Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 21 '00
Pros: Well-preserved, never crowded
Cons: Hard to reach, only open in summer
If you love history, you'll love Bodie, it's that simple.

It's not exactly the easiest place to get to, that's for sure. It's about 2 1/2 hours south of Reno, on Highway 395. The turn-off to the town is about 13 miles from the actual park, and...

Goodbye God - I'm goin' to Bodie

by tahoenpa , Mar 05 '00
Pros: Great Ghost Town - as good as it gets
Cons: Only accessible a few months of the year
Bodie California - now a ghost town - is as spookie as it gets. Open for just a few months of the year this ghost town is as good as it gets for those of you who like spooky stuff. Located southeast of Bishop California in shadow of the eastern Sierra...
