Pros: Tastefully Presented, Important History, A Sense Of Awe. Cons: None
In December of 1999, I wrote about the speechless awe I felt when I took my family to visit the Viet Nam Memorial in Washington DC. The feelings I expressed in that article mirror the overwhelming grief that I felt when I visited the Arizona...
Pros: A chance to experience history and how costly wars are. A worth while experience, Cons: Non
Another tour that I had requested while in Hawaii was the USS Arizona Memorial. I remember this day as a 16 year old high school student. It was a warm for December Sunday as we attended our afternoon church services. While on a break from ...
Visiting a war memorial is a moving experience. One can sense the loss, the sacrifice that was made by men on the field of battle. The USS Arizona Memorial, dedicated to those who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, is no...
Pros: moving and complete look at the historical event Cons: long wait times
My father and I visited Pearl Harbor (formally known as the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial) on a Thursday during our recent visit to Hawaii. The bus ride from our Waikiki Beach hotel took about an hour and 15 minutes, and we arrived at 9:45. At that time, the...
Pros: Outstanding presentations, well-stocked gift shop, helpful and knowledgeable employees Cons: Very crowded during the summer, time is limited at the memorial
The first time I ever saw the USS Arizona Memorial in person, I was manning the rails on the flight deck of the USS Kitty Hawk, pulling into Pearl Harbor for some liberty following RimPac 1996. As we passed by and rendered honors, the only sound beyond...
Pros: A moving tribute to those who served. Cons: A long wait is possible.
When you arrive at the USS Arizona Memorial Park, you get in line, and take a number. Every 15 minutes, a new number is called. Previous to your number being called, you may walk through an open (everything in Hawaii is open) museum. By open, I mean...
Pros: Historical significance, beauty Cons: possible wait for the next cycle to begin
I had the good fortune to be assigned to a unit in Hawaii while serving in the US Navy (VP 47!) Every unit has a few days where all the new people get together to get a few requirements out of the way and VP47 uses a couple of hours of one of those days...
Pros: I learned something I didn't know. Cons: I wish I had seen this earlier in my life!!!
This is a MUST SEE for EVERY American Citizen. This was so moving for me, I think the US Government should pay for every American Citizen to see what truly happen in the pre-dawn hours of D-Day. I can tell you that if you go to the island of Oahu and...
Pros: The history of Pearl Harbor and the touching floating exhibit. Cons:Absolutely none.
I visited Pearl Harbor in January 2009 on a vacation to Honolulu. If you do one thing when you travel to Hawaii, visiting the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial should be it!! How to get there:I recommend taking the bus if you are ...
Pros: A History Lesson for all Ages Cons: Long Lines
The Arizona Memorial is a very important feature of Hawaii. Because it marks the start of the US involvement in WWII, this is the best place for a historian to go. There are many placards reviewing the history and the story of the men who died on the...
Everybody says " If you see nothing else in Oahu, make sure you see Pearl Harbour." I disagree. My wife booked a 6:30 A.M.tour
The tour driver prattled away endlessly on her microphone about all sorts of inane topics. I made earplugs out of a napkin to make her farther away. Finally got to the place and stood frying in the sun for about 30 minutes. Could have been much worse. Once inside its OK. The movie is pretty good. Then off to the Memorial in the Navy Launch. Everybody was respectful and pretty quiet. All you can really see is scrap metal and leaking oil. I realize its a graveyard. Then off to Missouri. They take your picture twice and try to sell it to you. The thing that diminished the whole experience for me is the over hyping and tourist rip-offs. They keep saying that all revenues go back into the Memorial and Missouri. But if Pearl Harbour is a national historical site of significance, why doesn't the federal government support it like it should be.
