Pros: Incredible views without long hikes, clean restrooms, plentiful picnic tables, a lazy person's park! Cons: Entrance fee is as steep as the mountain side!
Recently we took a day trip to the Linville Gorge area, and our main destination was Grandfather Mountain. It's a wonderful place to take a family. Details, details, details . . . First, the surrounding area, though I'm going to focus on ...
Pros: Offers breathtaking views, a feeling of tranquility, and adds zest to your spirit. Cons: If you don't like nature or the out-of-doors, this area is not for you.
At Linville Falls in Marion, North Carolina, there are breathtaking views, monumental expressions of nature, glorious waterfalls that dance to a tranquil tune, and trails that range from easy to strenuous. Since this area is a mere distance from the...

This wilderness is beautiful and the scenery is spectacular - unlike anything I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the main attraction here is the Linville River whose headwaters are in a highly developed area. This means that most of the time, except in...

We stay at least twice a year at the Linville Gorge park area with our family of five. We own a large tent and take our bicycles for exploring, along with our trout fishing equipment. There are no reservations; however, usually you can camp for a very...
Pros: Absolutely Beautiful Cons: This is wilderness so be prepared
Linville Gorge is breathtaking. It is truly one of the wonders of the earth. From the steep cliffs and trails to the virgin timber in its awesome wonder this area is a magical place to visit. My preference is in winter as you are in a very small group who venture the rugged terrain and temperatures. Be wary of deep caves like the one near Spence Ridge Trail as I encountered a black bear in that one a few years ago. When the river is in full flow it is awesome to see and hear. This is an area where you must be prepared and have the right gear.
