My sister, mother, and I just returned from our trip to South Carolina. We rented a condo on Harbor Island and were disappointed to find that we were about 100 yards from it's beach and at low tide another 50+ yards from the surf. Because that proximity to the beach would be difficult for our 84 year old mother to access, my sister and I set out to find another beach.
Within 2 miles of Harbor Island we found the entrance to Hunting Island State Park. After winding through a beautiful rain forest like setting we found ourselves on a perfect beach. We were so appreciative of the close beach access and restroom facilities as well as the cleanliness of the beach. There were many people but I would not consider it crowded. The tree lined beach provided plenty of shade.
Hunting Island's beach truly saved a possible disastrous vacation for the three of us!
