On a trip from Dallas to El Paso, Texas we decided to take a short side trip and visit Fort Davis National Historical Site. It was a side trip I was glad we took, although some of family members didn't agree with me.
Awesome View of History by bellagrace62 ,Apr 26 '07
Pros: Easy to get around, the views are awesome and very ,very peaceful..... Cons: I can't think of any!!!
My family and I have visited this area off and on for over fifteen years. Each time we go we are awed at the sights and the kindness of the people in the surrounding areas.
You need more than just a few days to really enjoy everything Fort Davis has to offer. If you do go try to eat at the Hotel Limpia the food is a surprising delight!!
I loved wandering the old streets late in the evening and watching the vivid colors of pink and orange as our Texas sun set can only show.....Enjoy!!
Fort Davis - Wilderness Outpost by erch ,Aug 15 '06
Pros: Interesting story of the western army versus the native americans. Cons: Not many, although the town of Ft Davis is somewhat drab.
I visited Fort Davis in July of 2006. The restored fort is very interesting and well worth a stop if you are in the vacinity. Most of the buildings have been completelhy rebuilt from the foundation up but even though they are not pristine it is still interesting. I thought the part about the black soldiers was very interesting, especially the first black officer from west point, Kareem Abdul Jabar narrates the film shown in the visitors center and it was VERY well done. Overall my hat is off to the park service, this is a very nice historical site.
