Garner State Park-When It's Time to Get Away

by Camrex , Nov 20 '00
Pros: Plenty of Campsites and Activities
Cons: Best camp sites are difficult without reservations

When it's time to get away from it all, Garner State Park, is one of my favorite places to go. It is about a two-hour trip from of San Antonio. It is approximately 1420 acres, with 10...

A nice difference

by tmarvin , Dec 12 '00
Pros: River, swimming
Cons: crowds
Garner State Park is a curious mix of what you might find at a state park and things you would only expect to find at a private park.

Call it "State Park Meets KOA." On a typical summer day the first thing you'll probably notice is...

Relaxing getaway

by texdog2000 , Jan 03 '02
Pros: Quiet in some areas, upbeat in others
Cons: Graffiti on some rocks.
The Hill Country is a great place to camp and get away for Texas residents. The hills and trees do not compare to New England or the Rockies, but definitely permits a satisfying break from the everyday life.

We went with a small group during...

Best Park I've Ever Been To!
by slaygrl25 ,Jul 10 '05
Pros: Lots to do, clean river, nice facilities, amazing views!
Cons: High prices at convenient store.
This park is great! They have it all! The views are amazing, the river is the clearest and cleanest I've ever seen. The sites are pretty good and kept clean. The bathrooms and showers are old but kept in good condition! I'm not a fresh water swimming person but had no reservations getting in this river. This is an awesome place for a vacation with or without the kids! We stayed in a shelter that has electricity and it was as clean as I expected it to be on arrival. We had lots of space so there was no feeling cramped. They have swimming, tubing, hiking, there is a mini-golf course, restaurant, convenience store in the park, paddle-boat & kayak rentals, and a nightly dance in the summer. The only complaint I have is the high prices in the convenient store, so don't forget anything!
