Pros: Big Mountains, Wonderful Scenery, Alpine Areas, Inexpensive, Lots of Recreational Opportunities Cons: Can get very crowded at peak times (or at least parts of the park do)
What Is It? The White Mountain National Forest Park (WMNF) covers a large area, starting in northern New Hampshire and in portions of Western Maine. The highest mountains are in the Presidential Range and include Mount Washington, which is the ...
Pros: beautiful scenery, multitude of great hiking trails, swimming holes, many inexpensive campgrounds Cons: dangerous wild animals
I’m lucky in so many ways to live where I do. One of the best reasons is that less than five minutes away I have the White Mountain National Forest. Located primarily in central and eastern New Hampshire, with a little bit crossing into ...
Pros: Very Relaxing and Quiet Cons: Can't go there enough
One of our favorite destinations for a quick vacation is the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We've been there many times and each time is as much fun as the first time. There's so much to see and do that you can go back time and time again without...
I have been most fortunate to grow up in the foothills of the White Mts.
and have been continually awed by the splendor and beauty of the White Mt. National Forest.
Sparkling waters, panoramic views and a granite facade, combine readily...
Pros: Fantastic scenery, trails for all abilities, camping, picnicking. Cons: Trailhead user fee.
Nowhere in the northeast (nor probably anywhere else in the country) will hikers of various abilities find a system of trails and accommodations as extensive and as scenic as the White Mountains. A massive system of well maintained trails, well...
Pros: Spectacular mountain ranges and visitor friendly Cons: come prepared for crazy weather
The Whites in Northern New Hampshire are close to the northern terminus of the Appalachian Mountain Range, which travels from Georgia to Maine. The famed 2000+ mile Appalachian Trail (AT) travels the leangth of this ancient mountain range and passes...
Pros: Majestic terrain, spectacular views, endless variety of things to do. Cons: The busy seasons can be annoying.
The most magnificent of New Hampshire's many natural wonders is the White Mountain National Forest, a vast spectacle that consists of nearly 800,000 acres of mountainous terrain. 48 mountains encompassed by this forest are over 4,000 feet tall, which...
Pros: great scenery, crowd avoidable, one of the nicest places in the east Cons: crowds in the Presidential Range.
The White Mountain National Forest was the first place that I began my hiking journeys. I am from Buffalo, NY and after I got my license a number of years ago me and some of my friends went to the WMNF on our first trip as seniors in high school. ...

Pros: family oriented fun Cons: getting too commercial
What ISN'T there to do in the White Mountains of New Hampshire? I grew up in Lincoln and was only able to appreciate SOME of the activities available. Now that I've moved a few states away, I'm able to go back and appreciate what is available...
This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to be able to go up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and found a campsite relatively easily. It was all right, but had very restrictive quiet hours, and was more family-oriented, too much for the taste...
Pros: Always something fun to do, no matter what the weather is. Cons: Some of the attractions get crowded.
Have been there many times, in every season. There is always something something to do and I have never had anyone I brought there complain about it. In the summer, there are so many attractions to go to (Lost River, Clarks Trading Post, Polar Caves,...
Pros: So much to do Cons: Can be a long drive from home
The White Mountains are a great destination if you have little ones. It is absolutely my favorite place to take the kids. For the past four years we have rented a condo at Nordic Village in Jackson, New Hampshire. The condos have a full size living...
Endless Activity for the Young at Heart by samoliver ,Jul 19 '09
Pros: The mountains along the highway are breath taking. You will need to stop alot. Cons: Be careful driving, there are many scenes that will take your attention away from driving.
There is much to do in White Mountain National Forest. If you like skiing, hiking, trail riding, biking, swimming, photography and more, you will enjoy your trip to White Mountain. It is a great place to get a way and relax with your family, a friend, or yourself. Take time to experience the wonders of nature as you enter through several covered bridges to get to your destination.
Shopping for gifts are in abundance, but they do not overshadow the experience of the mountains. Commercialism is a minimal. Much of the focus is on the mountain experiences. There are many bed and breakfast designed to make your experience feel like home. It was a healing experience for me.
