We all know it's still a Miata

by
Oct 26, 2008 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros:

Handling. Cost of ownership. Shifting, handling, steering, braking. Reasonable creature comforts. Excellent Miata fan support.

Cons:

Few and far between. Gearing is very short. Image problem for the image-obsessed.

The Bottom Line: If you are even looking at this, you don't want a luxury car.  Get it.

I bought a used 2006 MX-5 last month for commuting. There were no mechanical chages to this car from 2006-2008, but a styling refresh is due for 2009. The 2009s have not yet hit the showrooms as I write this. This review is based on a 2006 Grand Touring, ... read more

For that wind-in-your-hair feeling, the '06 Miata is an all-star!

by
Oct 24, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Bold looking exterior with a snappy engine to match, modern dash and interior, unbelievably fun!
Cons: Tight quarters for larger or wider folk, very impractical, not an all-season vehicle, speeding tickets?
The Bottom Line: Trust me on this, if you can squeeze a Miata into your garage with your practical-car, DO IT! This is one fun car that will put fun in the drivers-seat.

While on a recent trip to Las Vegas I needed a rental car for the week I was visiting. Instead of taking the standard rental car route of a 4-door econobox, I took Hertz up on their Fun Collection available at certain airports. As a long time fan of ... read more

The end of a nice functional interior

by
Oct 24, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Classic design, great colors, incredible handling, great new top design, excellent new power, price!
Cons: Glare from dash and instrument surrounds, low seating position, questionable seat comfort
The Bottom Line: If you liked the older Miata, the interior may disappoint. Mazda has Americanized it too much and it now reminds me more of a Corvette than a British sports car.

After searching in vain for a nice used Miata (2001-2004), we drove to the local Mazda dealer to buy a new one. My mind was made up - all it had to do was pass a short driving test. After a 30 minute drive on a bright sunny day here in the South, we ... read more

MX-5 Sporty Sport

by
May 14, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power to weight ratio, handling, top-down fun to drive.
Cons: Need premium fuel.
The Bottom Line: Often imitated, never replicated; It simply can't be beat at this price point.

Model: Sport Trim w/ Suspension Package Overview: The MX-5 Sport trim adds a front shock tower brace and larger (17") wheels and upgraded Michelin tires. It also has a 6 speed manual transmission instead of the standard 5 speed. The Suspension package ... read more

Closer To Perfection--For Better And For Worse

by
Aug 24, 2005 - Updated Aug 27, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Beautifully tossable handling, sharp steering, a toggle-switch shifter, and a fair turn of speed.
Cons: Some tactile feedback sacrificed for refinement, buried driving position is out of character.
The Bottom Line: Mazda delivered what the market wanted--a smoother, safer, more sophisticated Miata. It's more capable than ever, but won't inspire you to dig out your tweed cap and driving gloves.

My Experience I've been anticipating the release of the 2006 Miata more eagerly than that of any other new car. Yes, I'm one of those "Miataphiles," the weirdos that find more fun in a 130-horse four-banger than a perfectly nice BMW. Miata ... read more

Pros: Price, performance, style, economical, fun to drive, sticks to a wet road
Cons: Only one-you can't drive it on a snow or ice covered road
This is the most fun I've ever had owning a car! The red color is a real attention getter. Holds it's value well. Gets 30 MPG consistently. It's easy to clean. It feels like you are in a race car. Girls love the car. ... read more

Pros: Excellent handling and braking. Crisp acceleration. Great looks. Easy to operate convertible top.
Cons: Driver door cup holder irritates left leg. No spare tire. Wimpy horn.
If you are interested in a 2 seat sports car at an affordable price, then this is it! 30 miles per gallon is just icing on the cake. This car handles, brakes and accelerates like a much more expensive vehicle. Flip down the top and let the sun and ... read more

Pros: Performance, looks, price
Cons: Interior room, premium gas
This car will put a smile on your face. We have had it for two weeks and we love it. Very peppy! We got the copper red touring model and we have had numerous gawkers. It may be a bit cramped if you are a large person, but I find it very comfortable. ... read more
