Pros: Engine, comfortable front seats, refinement, premium character Cons: Instruments, rear seat a bit low, VW's reliability record The Bottom Line: The look isn't as classic, but the interior draws even closer to that of a luxury sedan.
A few years ago I suggested that for those who didn't need a back seat the Jetta made more sense than the Passat. The smaller sedan handled better and cost less. Last spring a thoroughly redesigned Jetta arrived. This fall it is joined by an all-new ...

Pros: The red and blue lights!! Great car for $26,000.00 Cons: the passenger seat is not electric but this I can live with. The Bottom Line: Safe, Fun, Fast and Luxurious
My husband and I decided to get rid of his poor crappy, 1997 Chevy Astro Van, with no air conditioning. If you live in Florida, you know what I mean. We went this last Saturday to get a new VW. He loves my Jetta so we decided to stick with VW cars. We ...

Pros: Transmission, engine, interior, fit and finish, attention to detail, handling and suspension Cons: Leatherette smell, that's about it The Bottom Line: An excellent, well rounded from all aspects, family car. I think VW really hit jackpot with this one.
Ive had the new 2006 VW Passat for almost 6 months now, and I felt like Ive had enough experience with it to write a fairly comprehensive review. I purchased the Passat primarily for my wife. We were looking for a car that would be safe, ...

Pros: power, fuel economy, ride quality, handling, smooth power delivery, style, interior quality, built in Germany Cons: may not look German enough for fans of the old Passat, weak AC The Bottom Line: You pay a tad bit more than you do for a Camry or an Accord, but you get twice the car. It's a no-brainer.
I'll admit it, this car snuck up on me. I have traditionally been a Honda fan, but after working as a dealership lot porter, and later, a Volkswagen salesman (affording my many opportunities to drive and analyze this car), I've switched allegiances. This ...

Pros: Styling, Fuel Economy, Standard Features Cons: Depreciation, ungainly from some angles, potential reliability. The Bottom Line: A great used value. With a fully transferrable 4 yr/48,000 mi warranty, a 1 yr old Passat could offer as much as a new Fusion, Accord, or Camry.
This Passat review happened accidentally, as I was helping a friend decide on a new vehicle purchase. He is not particularly knowledgeable about cars, and had already made up his mind on a used Volvo, without ever having driven one. That being said, test ...

Pros: Powerful, refined, sharp styling Cons: Can't find any yet. The Bottom Line: Buy this car. It's fun to drive, refined, and the base model is a phenomenal value.
This is the car that BMW should have built for its 5 Series. I have been driving for 33 years, and have owned or leased seven Volvos, five SAABs, a Mercedes-Benz, three prior VW's, a Toyota, a Mercury and a Buick. None of these has come close to ...

Pros: Beautiful looks, luxorious, high quality materials, cute VW quirks, peppy engine, auto lock, stereo Cons: RELIABILITY - at least for me, premium fuel, not enough standard features, packages expensive. The Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend any VW vehicle because of its history of reliability issues. It's a beautiful car, but what good is a car if it's always at the dealership.
After researching several vehicles (2006 Honda Accord, 2006 Acura TSX, 2006 VW Jetta) my wife and I decided to buy a United Grey/Black Leather VW Passat 2.0T. Unfortunately, VW wasn't able to keep us as loyal customers. Two days ago, my wife and I ...

Pros: Style, responsiveness, comfort and a slew of features that are standard. Cons: VW service departments, and because of design you cant really tinker on it yourself. The Bottom Line: For about $23,000 we chose the Passat over all other cars we considered, including Chrysler 300, Nissan Maxima, Lincoln Zephyr, Audi 2.0, Dodge Magnum, Chevy Impala, and Ford 500.
To start, this is the first VW I have owned. My wife and I have been looking at cars for the last two years as her old 96 Maxima is starting to get up there in miles. We came across the Passat at the car show in Denver, and my wife immediately fell in ...

Pros: Sharp lines, great looks, plush interior, no-feedback steering, affordable price! Cons: None as of yet!!! The Bottom Line: Awesome car at an affordable price! A definite yes!
This is the second VW I have leased. The first was a 2003 Jetta with the 1.8 turbo and it was a great car. I never had any problems with it, and VW was always great to deal with at service intervals. When I started looking at the Passat, I was ...

Pros: Ride quality, interior quality, driving dynamics Cons: Too many little things breaking, poor service department and customer service. The Bottom Line: If you want a Passat, then wait till the 08's when they have had a chance to work things out (2007 model line still has many of the same issues).
So I picked up my 2006 Package #2 2.0T Passat August of 2005, and my wife and I drove off in a blissful sunset. As of today we have 41,000 miles on the car and it has been a real love hate relationship. We've thoroughly enjoyed owning the car as to it ...

As most of those who purchase a car.. I was in love with the look, the feel, the room and the EPA mileage estimates. I purchased the car, Artic Blue 2006 Passat 2.0T new. In the fist month I had the car in the shop 5 times. Various problems as ...

Passat 2006 Suspension Creaking/Big Lemon!!!
by newpassat2007

Pros: Great for highway driving and super fast
Comfortable seats Cons: Throttle lag, check engine lights, suspension, creeking noises, shaking, interior noise
I have new 2006 3.6 Passat with around 11,000 miles. I have had it in for service about 6 times in the last 2 months. The car has major creeking problems when going over bumps or turns, especially when its cold. It sounds like a creeky old boat. It shakes and idles at the stop lights. I've already had the struts mount changed. I got stranded last week for about a 1/2 hour with a check engine light. But worst of all, is the throttle hesitation where it has a 2-3 second delayed acceleration and you feel like your getting whip lash everytime you take off. I've been told by Volkswagon that they are not able to fix this situation. It could be a factory design problem. I plan on taking legal action. Big Lemon!!!

2006 VW Passat is a big lemon

Pros: Nice styling, good gas mileage Cons: unreliable, poor customer service
My Passat is a lemon. I have a 2006 Passat 2.0 T with 12,000 miles. It has been at the dealer for repair 6 times in the last 10 weeks. I have only had my car 6 days out of the last 30. What makes it worse is the nearest VW dealer is 150 miles from my home. The problem
The oil becomes contaminated with gasoline. The engine surges at city driving speeds and the tachometer bobs up and down. VW has not yet been helpful. Each time I get my car back they tell me that they solved the problem and it is fixed. However, my car sits at the dealer as I write. I should have kept my 㢦 Jetta TDI, which I never had a single problem with. Never again will I buy a VW.

Pros: Trunk Space, warning lights for everything, decent speakers Cons: Poor quality, delayed acceleration, many noises
Great looking car...but that's about it. I have a 2006 2.0 with 22,000 miles. I drove it off the lot with an engine malfunction light...dealership said it would eventually go away...shame on me. My car was at the dealership for the first month because they had to order new parts that were causing my dashboard to malfunction. Every other day a new warning light comes on and is annoying. When I turned on the car this morning, my car said service now, then an engine malfunction light came on, followed by the airbag malfunction light. This car is worthless. The shocks squeak, the door rattles, the car hums when the sunroof is open, the casing around the rear brake light came loose and rattles...talk about a symphony of destruction. I will never buy a VW again. It you don't like a bitter taste in your mouth, stay away from this lemon

A Pleasure to Drive

Pros: Electronic parking brake, dash lights, umbrella holder, 2.0 Turbo and transmission, quiet A/C, and design. Cons: Wish you weren’t required to purchase additional packages to get the Dynaudio or 17” wheels.
I LOVE THIS CAR! After researching numerous cars including the Saab 9-5, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Volvo S40 and Lincoln Zephyr I found that the for the money, standard features, resale potential, style, safety features, and performance the VW 2.0T Passat was the best deal out there. It is a great looking car that seems to even get better looking every day. It has the power of a V6 and the automatic transmission is smooth as silk. While I wanted the Dynaudio system and the wood trim I did not want to spend all the extra money on various packages to get it and have settled for an after market real wood dash kit and have found the stock stereo to be more than adequate. In my 35 years of driving this has been the most pleasurable car to drive and that includes the BMW 3 and 5 series cars Ive owned. With a little extra tint and real Burled Maple dash kit my basic Candy White 2.0T will look like a $31,000 Passat 3.6.
