Pros: This is a nice computer and suits our needs Cons: So far none.

Its simply amazing how much computing power you can buy for just a little money these days. Not long ago, you couldnt touch anything approaching the latest in computer technology for under $1000; many systems cost at least twice that much. And ...
Pros: Great Price , Acceptable Performance Cons: No AGP slot for dedicated graphics card
Dell Dimension 2400 came with Windows XP Home, 2.4GHz, 845GV chipset, 128MB DDR SDRAM 333MHz. The system offers acceptable application performance for students, small-business owners and home-office dwellers. The two-tone case (colored "storm gray on ...
Pros: $729 total, built and shipped in under 5 business days, free shipping
Cons: REBATE HASSLE, no power cable, crummy monitor, already crashed
This is a review of a 2400 (which has the 2.4 ghz processor, hence the name), with CD-RW drive, 40GB Hard Drive, 256MB RAM. Dell knows how to hook people with their promos and special offers. I took the bait, and to paraphrase Han Solo, I'm getting a bad ...
The Worst Computer Ever by mkbrushfire ,Mar 03 '04
Pros: Nothing except the peripherals that come with it--speakers, printer, etc. Cons: Extremely slow, cannot handle more than a couple of programs at a time
This is the most disappointing product we have ever bought. I can't see how so many people buy this computer and are satisfied with it. I have never worked on a computer that has operated slower than the Dimension 2400. Booting up takes forever, and even switching between open windows is a pain. I often have to close programs using Ctrl+Alt+Del, for they freeze frequently. The monitor that comes with it also produces very annoying high-pitched noises at times. I wouldn't recommend this computer to anyone who is not an extremely patient person, willing to wait for a long time for their computer to perform simple tasks. Dude, I'll never buy another Dell.
Good bare bones but Tech Support awful by bds349 ,Dec 15 '03
Pros: This is basically a good computer for the price. Cons: If your looking for one stop shopping this isn't it.
I bought this system to replace an old Pentium 1 system I have. The system comes without a monitor and I planned on using my old 14" monitor, which was working fine. For whatever reason, the Dell system didn't work with my old monitor. I never found out why because Dell's phone Tech Support is all outsourced to India. Between the accent and satellite connection it was worthless. I tried email and got a reply saying that they are not responsible for monitor problems. The monitor still works but I finally bought a used monitor to get the Dell system up and working.
Great computer, excellent buy by tjt317 ,Nov 02 '03
Pros: Great computer, runs at good speed, rarely crashes Cons: Tends to be a little expensive, doesn't come with a flat screen monitor
I bought my Dell Dimension desktop 2400 back around the end of July 2003 and it is still holding strong. The Operating system, Windows XP, almost never crashes. I've had it for around 3 months now and I can remember it crashing maybe 3 or 4 times over that time period.
However, Dell allows you to customize your computer and have it upgraded. If you are planning to multi-task your computer then I would suggest that you have the RAM (Random Access Memory) upgraded to a least 512 Megabytes. But for the average home user, 128 megabytes should be sufficient.
Dell Dimension 2400 - You Get What You Pay For. by b_tester ,Jan 05 '06
Pros: Inexpensive system, relatively fast, comes with a good monitor, good for a first PC. Cons: Dell India Tech Support is awful. PC expensive for the mediocre components.
The 2400 is the lowest common denominator as far as Dell desktops go. You will get exactly what you pay for. Everything (sound, video, networking)is integrated on the motherboard - which makes the computer inexpensive because integrated motherboards are cheap to manufacture and DELL doesn't have to use as much manual labor to assemble the system. But also makes it somewhat mediocre, since integrated sound and video isn't usually the greatest and can be (at times) incompatible. For most home users this doesn't mean anything UNTIL you have a problem with video, sound, or networking. Then the entire motherboard requires replacing. This usually happens when the warranty has expired. Dell Technical Support was based in India - and like most companies who have done that like Sony and Time Warner, the support was horrible. The people answering the phones there did not speak English very well and were not familiar with Dell's product line to be much help. Fortunately - Dell has realized their error and is pulling their tech support out of India.
Terrible computer and customer service. If you buy this machine you are taking a gamble. Service is slow to receive the machine and the machine is slow. I've had the machine for three months and the mother board has been replace two times!! Now the hard drive is acting up. Just can't wait to deal with the incompetent cust service again. It's Junk!!!
Add RAM and you have a good computer by sg7766 ,Jan 15 '04
Pros: Easy to order, good machine for the money. Cons: You can't run XP on 128 Mbytes!
Got the 2400 (with 2.5 GHz CPU) from Dell small-business Web site. I'm hoping that, if I need service, it will come from U.S. help desk, not the offshore disaster that consumer customers are stuck with. Ordered on Wednesday night, got e-mail confirmation Friday, order was on my porch Monday. $100 rebate check arrived a few weeks later. Out of the box, with 128 Mb RAM, it was dreadfully slow - grinds on the disk for 30 sec. just to start Notepad! But I expected this - Windows XP uses over 100 Mbytes for its own fat posterior, plus the onboard video uses some RAM. Bought 512 Mbytes from crucial.com (much cheaper than Dell), took 30 sec. to plug it in, now it works great.
Annoying "Enhanced Multimedia" Keyboard by jedidaddy40 ,Feb 06 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, configurable Cons: Just the keyboard so far
Just rec'd the system and don't yet have an opinion on it except for the keyboard. It's nice looking and has some nice controls. But the the cluster of buttons that contains the Insert, Delete, Home, etc., which I use a lot, is a different arrangement than normal. And there's less space below it where I usually rest my finger tips. If you only will use THIS keyboard then no problem. But, if you're like me and will be using other keyboards at home or the office it will be a pain. When I ordered my system it was a special bundle and I wasn't given the option to choose keyboards. If I could do it over again and had a choice it would be the plain vanilla Quietkey keyboard. I will be replacing mine immediately.
Pros: Computer seems a little slow, but generally works. Cons: Indian tech help seems useless (sorry, don't mean to sound racist).
Decent computer, but let's face it, most computers work. I've had Compaq, HP(laptop), Sony (least favorite) and now a Dell. I no longer think it's important to worry about the computer as much as the tech help that comes with it.
I can't burn CDs with the burner (tried 3 burning programs and 3 different brands of CDR). I am on a ***1.5 hour*** service call with someone in India as I write this. This is the 3rd person I've been transfered to! He is telling me he can't help me reinstall the drivers or anything and that Dell will send a technician out to my house 3 days from now to replace the CDR drive.
This is the worst customer service ever and for that reason alone I would not recommend buying a Dell.
