Pros: Decent software bundle, good price, very versatile, comes with 1 DVD R. Cons: Only burns CD's at 16x, not 24x. User manual practically non-existent.
Hmm, I don't know why everyone else was having so many problems. I've backed up 3 of my OWN movies so far without ANY problems. DVD Burner OEM maufacturer: NEC Model Number: DVD-+RW ND-1300A. System Specs: Pentium 3 at 933mhz 512 MB RAM One ...
Look at the Serial Number to Determine Who Really Made Drive!!!! by dhilowitz ,Apr 18 '04
Pros: Great software bundle, Cons: You have to update the firmware lest you experience horrible flaws
This drive is made by one of three manufacturers. The one I had was Revision one meaning that it is none other than the Optoright DD0201. This is a great drive. One thing is you absolutely have to update the firmware. Look here to determine which drive you are dealing with:
Taken from JoeFoster of FatWallet:
If the serial starts with an "I" and the model number on the box ends in "RV1" it is an Optorite.
If the serial starts with a "3" and the model number on the box ends in "RV2" it is an NEC.
If the serial starts with a "P" and the model number on the box ends in "RV3" it is an BTC.
The Optorite is the DD0201 and the NEC is the 1300A. Hopefully you have one of these two, because they are both very good drives. Anyway, start from here, find the REAL drive u have (not pacific digital, because they dont manufacture the drive), then find support on that specific drive, whether it be optorite, nec, or btc. hope this helps
Pros: was cheap, comes with GREAT software Cons: installation is rather buggy, DVD writing unreliable, standard DVD playback jumpy with sometime titles
This is my first DVD burner. Installed it, booted, everything was fine...installed software, rebooted, the drive disappeared!
Finally did a cold boot and got it back. Tried my first DVDRW burn which seemed a success until I tried to access the data -- it was deemed as a BLANK disk by both the DVD burner AND my standard DVD drive.
Lastly, I tried out a dvd movie on the drive...first few chapters played fine, later chapters were extremely jumpy and sometimes eventually kicked straight out to the menu. Tested the exact same DVD movie on my standard, factory-installed DVD drive with all the same software and setup with absolutely no problems.
Too much hassle involved even considering I got it for a sweet price of $70 at Staples for their day after Thanksgiving Day sale.
It's my first DVD Burner I got from STAPLES in 'Black Friday = $70 and the price reflect the quality.
The software which come with are great.
At first turn the DVD RW won't work and freeze (winXP 500GB RAM)- Use Ghost 2003 to Backup 80GB Hard Drive on 2 DVD disc - after 1.8GB save cause STOP the Copy transfer and ruin the Disc and the Drive dissapear till new Re-Boot.
Attempt to record own Movie = shows Empty disc at review and then the DVD Drive put out of control System and next freeze.
Cheap sale price for more than worse DVD 4x Dual Internal IDE by Pacific Digital Corporation.
Have no other choice but return this very..very bad Product.
If anybody looking for trouble under Windows XP.. then need to buy this Burner.. It's very shame to talk publicly about the real useless DVD Burner on Computer Market.
Pros: Inexpensive, good software, plays all media Cons: Can't read anything burned by this drive.
Installed on 1.3GHz/AMD/768MB Ram system (KT7A-RAID mb)
Installation went perfectly.
Plays all media types.
Recordings all fail verification and cannot play ANYTHING recorded by this drive on any machine including itself.
Will TRY and get support.
