Pros: Fast machine, beautiful screen, good keyboard with lots of features and at a GOOD Price. Cons: Tip for an IGO Juice charger for this Acer is an extra $17.00.
I was looking for a replacement for my Sony Vaio SR17. The SR17 is my second Sony, my first was a C1X. I have owned and used notebooks in various sizes. I prefer the smaller one for travel. However, my eyes are getting tied from reading the smaller ...

Pros: Price is low for the features it contains. Comparable models run closer to $3000. Cons: Poor wireless connectivity. Keyboard is cramped considering size of display.
I spent a lot of time reading articles, searching on the internet, and just plain snooping for a gre ...

Great Machine
by colintheys ,Jun 17 '04
Pros: Very fast. Portable. Excellent battery (8-10hrs word processing.) Keyboard Cons: Terrible wi-fi. :( Slightly weak screen back. Bad speakers.
This is an excellent computer. I've had mine for almost a year now and have had only one real problem: the wi-fi is awful. Otherwise, it is a beauty. It's fast, yet the battery lasts forever. I've gotten 10 hours on the included battery doing word processing (if you take out the CD drive.) It's got a big, brigt, crisp screen. The speakers are a little wimpy, even by laptop standards, but that's quite minor. The back side of the screen housing is also a little weak. I feel like if I dropped somehting heavy on the screen, it would crack a little easier than I'd like. However, overall, I find it to be the perfect blend of portability and power. I use it for mobile word processing and mobile 3d-graphics. I've run apps like Maya for hours on the battery (have to add a 3-button mouse.) The curved keboard also surprised me by quickly becoming my favorite keyboard, more so than my old favorite logitech keyboard on my desktop.

Very Nice Machine
by srr3306 ,Mar 30 '04
Pros: Performance, value, screen Cons: Could be a bit more sturdy
I have had mine for about 8 months. The only problem I have had with it is some occasional feedback from the built-in microphone thru the speakers that was easily fixed by turning the sensitivity down. The case is a bit flimsy and easily scratched compared to other popular laptops, so I would be hesitant to recommend this unit to those who are hard on their machines or travel extensively. Absent that, this box is very fast, has the best screen I have seen to date and a very good keyboard once you get used to it. The ports & expansion options are first rate. The touchpad keys are a but sticky for my taste, but not a problem. The shock absorber for the HDD is a nice touch. At 6 lbs, it is sufficiently thin and light for travel. For $1600 after rebate (which I got in 8 weeks) with 512MB 40GB & XPhome, it is a good deal. I hear the new wide screen Aspires are even better.

Really an amazing laptop for the price!!!
by runninkyle17 ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: Great price, light for such a big screen, and very fast! Cons: Slightly loud fan, if only it had a wide-viewing angle screen.
Okay, so people look at the brand of my laptop and go, "What is an A-Ker!" Well, let me tell you. First, the keyboard is one of the best I have worked with and I had an IBM which has great keyboards. Also, the screen is just as bright if not brighter and crisper than any IBM T40 out there. The fan is a little loud, but it is much softer than any Dell or Toshiba. The graphics are great and the customer service is not always busy like the bigger American companies. Okay, so with all of the good things, what are the bad things about this laptop. There are a few, but they are not that huge.
First, the hard drive is only 4200 rpm, but that will only bother people who really are into incredibly graphics intensive work or gamers that want to run games at a resolution higher than 1280 X 800 or something like that.
Second, the screen brightness control does not allow you to make the screen completely black, but that is just a little quirk of mine and shouldn't bother any normal person out there.
