Aiptek -- a decent toy-factor camera

by kurt_g , Dec 29 '01
Pros: digital camcorder ability, inexpensive, fun
Cons: low image quality, can be flimsy

Ah, Christmas. When one goes out to purchase gifts for the ones they love. And pick up a few stocking stuffers along the way. Which is how I ended up in CompUSA, wondering if there might be something electronic and gadgety that might leap...

Cute, fun toy, but save your money if you're serious about a camera.

by pixelbaby , May 08 '02
Pros: Highly portable, runs on 2 AAA batteries, good for kitschy snapshots or mini-movies.
Cons: Irritating beep when camera takes a picture, no flash on camera.
In the days where you can purchase at least a 1.3 megapixel camera for slightly more than $100, it might not make much sense to spend anywhere from $50 to $80 on something that doesn't present you with a lot of options.

Having heard all of the...

Aiptek VGA Pen Camera II - A cool and inexpensive digital camera

by dj_white_rice Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 09 '02
Pros: Fits in your pocket, low cost, color photos, works independent of computer, adequate software included.
Cons: Image quality is poor without good lighting, may break if dropped,
My personal experience with this camera:

I have only had this camera for about two weeks, but have managed to put it to the test. Overall the camera is fairly easy to use and the image quality is good enough for capturing moments that you...

Sure, it's cool...but is it useful?

by holtek , Jun 21 '01
Pros: Easy to use, good interface great "gadget" appeal
Cons: cheap plastic parts poor low-light performance marginal image quality
I Was browsing ebay for a cheap digital "snapshot" camera and happened upon a some listings for the Aiptek Pencam. It sounded like a great concept...an inobtrusive little camera that easily fits into the average pocket protector. Too Cool! I thought this...

interesting and fun, but could be much much better

by d0l3m1t3 , Oct 24 '01
Pros: easy-to-use, inexpensive, compact, marginal image quality
Cons: design flaws and missing features, marginal image quality
After spending a week so far with my Aiptek PenCam 2, it's pretty much what I expected but falls short when looking at some of the touted features and some of the design flaws. It IS highly compact, but unfortunately said design flaws deteriorate from...

Aiptek Pencam Trio has amazing portability at an incredibly low price

by kcowan , Jul 11 '04
Pros: Tiny about twice as thick as a normal quality pen and very unobtrusive quick snaps.
Cons: No LCD/flash, limited image storage, needs outdoor lighting or bright indoors.
This camera produces pictures suitable for email and small displays on a web site. It is not really good enough for printed snapshots unless you get lucky with the conditions. It will do scenery but is probably better used to snap photos of your friends. ...

This Camera Sure is Small... But Not Only In Size

by wilburbud , Feb 10 '03
Pros: Small, Easy to Use, Cheap, Fun to Use, Bundled Software, Three Functions
Cons: OK Image Quality, No Flash, Battery Drainer, Few Features, Spoils-the-Fun Beep when Taking Pictures
Size Does Matter: Introduction

This camera gets all the attention, because of its size and that's probably the only attention it should get. The small size might have prevented from higher quality parts to go into it because it's image...

Never leave home without it!

by txmike1945 , Jul 10 '02
Pros: As small as a large magic marker, good, simple e-camera to carry all the time.
Cons: No flash, marginal lens.
For father's day my daughter gave me an AIPTEK Pencam 2, she said she bought it for about $40 on a TV shopping network. It is so easy to use, I loved it right away. You can take 107 pictures in the low resolution mode, or 26 in the high mode. The low...

Strongly recommended.

by degree6 , Dec 28 '01
Pros: Excellent image quality, perfectly portable.
Cons: Why would a spy camera BEEP when pictures are taken?
If this camera were actually carried in the pocket, it would not last long. However, it fits perfectly inside a hardshell eyeglass case easily available anywhere for a few bucks. This makes it "perfectly portable".

Image quality is...

A really cool toy...but that's just about it.

by gizmoguy303 , Jul 08 '01
Pros: very small, cool toy
Cons: drains batteries, bad photo quality, software only works with Windows 98 and above
Well, a 12 year old doesn't have much money to spend on expensive cameras and such, but I really wanted a digital camera. I was reluctant to purchase a camera with less than one-megapixel resolution, but when I saw this tiny, stylish little camera......
