Great TV for the Price
by garylai ,Aug 05 '07
Pros: Good picture, price, and sound. Cons: Size.
I've owned this TV since 2003 and have not had any problems at all. I have read the other reviews, and can only say that there is probably a bad one in every batch. Mine however is doing great. Great picture, sound and connectivity to all my audio devices. It also has been very durable. I have 5 kids that are hard on audio/video equipment, and they use the set for playing video games, and movies. They love the video games...large and clear.
I would buy this TV all over again if I had to.

horrible product
by yeager991 ,Aug 20 '06
Pros: it was in our price range Cons: it blows up and they don't care.
My Akai tv blew up 3 times in 7 months and for 2 of those months my tv sat blown up becasue no one wanted to do anything about it! You get a run around and they tell you to call another phone number or give you a different story every time. Akai corporate does not return phone calls. Horrible experience all the way around!

Do not buy any Akai product
by uhavskills ,May 16 '08
Pros: Good picture when player was working. Cons: Worst customer service in history.
I sent in a portable DVD player for repair almost a year ago and still fighting with them to get it fixed or sent a new player. This company has to be the worst ever for customer service by far. All you get is I will forward your complaint onto the corporate office that is all we can do. They will not give you a number to call; they say they do not have number available to them. Hard to believe a corporation that large does not have phone numbers available. I have told them at least five times that the player was sent in for repair and quote and is not under a warranty repair. However, every time I call they say they are waiting for me to fax in a receipt for the player.
I have had one call back in the 10 months of calling trying to talk to someone other the call center.
I make a complaint too better Business Bureau and of course, they did not reply to them either. DO NOT BUY AND AKAI PRODUCT. You will regret it if something goes wrong and you have to work with them.

Not pleased
by bmoss23 ,Sep 12 '06
Pros: Cheap Cons: Does not work for very long.
I've had my TV for almost four years and all three projection tubes have leaks in them. These parts to be replaced are just shy of $300 a piece. That would be a total of $600 for you none math people. I think this model should be recalled. I've had tv's I bought in the 80's that are still working 20 years later. Not a happy consumer. I have called Tech Support and they wouldn't even listen to my problem. Don't buy.

DO NOT BUY AKAI!
by treyes ,Sep 25 '06
Pros: Was a great tv with great picture when it was working. Cons: Cannot get it fixed. No one will even look at it. NO SERVICE!!
We bought this tv from Sam's club in 2002 and we are now stuck with a 54" TV that does not work sitting in our family room. We cannot get a repair place to even look at it. Even the factory authorized repair shop that AKAI's service center told me to call, would not come look at it. Apparently AKAI does not stand behind their products and parts are next to impossible to get.
Buyer beware-DO NOT BUY AKAI!!

AKAI under warranty may take over 3 months to fix
by akai13104 ,May 08 '08
Pros: Looks good for the short period it still works Cons: Picture goes in months; they have no service;warrranty is meaningless.
Have an AKAI still under warranty. The company assigned my case to a service center 2.5 hours away. When I called the service center they said that, in contrast to what AKAI said, they had no paper work about us and would not service a TV 2.5 hours away. When I called AKAI they said they had to tell corporate office and the office will reassign the case. They said that they have one Month to do so. Then, they said that it may take 4-8 weeks after whoever they get to come to see the tv to fix it because they may have to order parts and that is how long AKAI takes to get the parts for their own TVS! So, I would avoid an AKAI like the plague! We have no picture and probably never will. The price is low but it is not worth anything so whatever was paid is like flushing it down the toilet. The internet is simply filled with these complaints about all their TVs and the company does not publish any local corporate office address. I would avoid any and all AKAI products.
