Pros: Very good sound, bass and treble controls, high max volume, easy to connect Cons: A little larger than I would have liked
I purchased the Altec Lansing VS4121 Computer Speakers as a replacement for my A

Lansing VS2121 Computer Speakers, when they stopped working properly, one month ago. I had been very pleased with my old ...

I purchased this system a few months ago from Futureshop for $79.99CAD (MSRP was $129.99CAD)without the extended warranty BS. The price seemed right, and as soon as I fired it up, I found that wasn't disappointed , with rich, clean and accurate sound, ...
Pros: Great sound. Good build quality and easy setup. Well priced. Outperforms higher-end systems. Cons: Takes some adjustment from factory settings. Tendency to give a fish tank or tunnel effect.
First things first, I need to let you know where I'm coming from on my review. I did not purchase these speakers as an *upgrade* to my sound system. More accurately, I purchased the VS-4121 as a *replacement* for a very high quality 5.1 surround system ...
Pros: Good price, easy to set up, excellent sound Cons: None
I had a pair of cheap tinny sounding speakers, you know the kind, the ones that come with the PC; the kind you use only because they are there. After discovering Internet Radio and having music while I worked at home, the miserable sound of the old ...
Pros: Bass is very loud, and sound can get very VERY loud Cons: Life of speakers is rougly 1 year.
These speakers give you quite a bang for your buck. I have never owned a set of speakers in this price range that can get as loud as these. And the bass on the speakers is exceptional. I almost always have to have the bass half-way up because it is so ...
Pros: Very nice looking, lots of base, easy to set up Cons: Too much bass distorts the midranges
I purchased this set over the weekend because Altec Lansing has a reputation for creating great PC speakers, I liked the way they looked, and I liked their price. After setting the speakers up, I listened to some of my favorite music. Unfortunately ...
Pros: Nice design, easy to set up and use. Cons: Cables a little short for my liking.
I needed to upgrade the speakers used on my home PC as the bass driver in the old units was past it's best. Mind you they were 11 years old, so go figure. I cruised up and down the aisle in BestBuy listening to all the offerings from the $19 own-brand ...
Pros: Crisp, clean audio from a great value package Cons: Bass a bit boomy but can be adjusted with the bass control
I'm in my forties and I love classic rock from AC/DC to Zeppelin. I've had some Altec's before these and lost those in a house fire. So I was ready to go speaker shopping again after a few months of listening to the one tiny speaker that's in my Mac G4 ...
Pros:Great Sound, Easy Set Up, Controls on side speakers, Sound better than $150 speakers. Cons:Woofer a little bulky.
I have a 32 inch LCD tv which I sometimes connect to my computer to stream shows off netflix. The TV speakers aren't that great either. But then again I did not want to spend too much money on a home theater system and go overboard. So I wanted to get ...
A speaker ruined by it's subwoofer and high price tag by xtreme_paladin ,Oct 02 '06
Pros: Satellites are good sounding, clear highs and mids. Cons: Boomy subwoofer and high price tag. The VS2221 is a better choice.
Good points:
1. Satellites are good sounding, they sound crystal clear, the highs and mids are great. Highs and mids are not muffled.
2. Nice design.
3. Easy to set-up.
4. Has treble and bass control in one of the satellites.
Bad points:
1. The subwoofer is very boomy, it's not punchy but a muffled and distorted boomy low frequency sound. Subwoofer overpowers the satellites and all you can hear is muffled, boomy and distorted low frequency sound.
2. No remote control.
3. High price tag. The high price tag is really not justified by it's boomy subwoofer design. No wonder this speaker was quickly replaced by it's older brother, the VS4221 model.
The VS2221 is a better choice than this. I can't really recommend this speaker, high price tag and boomy subwoofer that will annoy audiophiles.
EDIT: I received several complaints that the mids are hollow. Yeah, they are right, its a mixed bag, in some songs, the mids are ok, but in some, it is really hollow, like listening a sound at the end of a hollow tube. I think this speaker is very sensitive to the kind of sound card you are using.
Accoustic not great, but not bad by skchandon ,Dec 29 '06
Pros: Good clear sounding satelites Cons: Keep the subwoofer at one quearter maximum.
Accoustic music played quite well, not like BOSE but its not bad. Rock music played the best. The sub-woofer booming must be kept to the lowest. Never go above one quarter or else it will be ruined.
Two words: Digital Fatigue by slcraigjr ,Feb 17 '06
Pros: Ease of setup. Cons: For rock only. Acoustic music doesn't reproduce on these at all.
These speakers are not suitable for acoustic music of any kind. I've spent a month trying to get my jazz collection to play properly, to no avail. I had to tweak each cut, it took half the song to do so -- and the sound never came out right. No mids to speak of, and...
Did I mention digital fatigue? These things had me snapping at my wife without knowing why!
