Works well
by shanepuckett ,Jun 07 '05
Pros: Dependable washing cycles.
Delayed start is fabulous Cons: Internal components are not manufactured to high quality standards.
I have owned an Amana ADB1200AWB dishwasher for about 18 months now. Functionally the washer works well, but is not as quiet as the salesman leads you may think.
After 18 months of use (daily washing) I have had to replace the door latch assembly and upper rack rails.
The door latch simply stopped working, I had to open the door with great force to access the tub. The rack rails are so flimsy that they have already warped.
I purchased the Latch assembly, door latch and an extra set of rails for a total of $45. I don't know if I'm alone here, but if you purchase this unit and use it as much as I do, expect to replace these parts.

Don't buy Amana
by sampson22 ,Oct 11 '07
Pros: None Cons: No child lock feature, does not run quiet, loads run times are really long.
Our new house we bought in 2005 came with all new Amana appliances and EVERY single appliance has had problems both before and after the warranties ran out. The dishwasher, ADB1200AWW, handle/latch broke 6 months ago and has now broken again. It costs us $150 each time with service call to replace the handle, so at what point is it going to be cheaper to just replace the dishwasher? I searched on the web and the handle problem is VERY common with all Maytag and Amana appliances. In fact, our neighbors who also bought their house about the same time have had the handle on their Amana dishwasher break too. The name on the dishwasher is sof sound or something like that and it is definitely not a quite dishwasher as I can hear it running when I'm upstairs. Although we always rinse our dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, we've been getting glasses and other top rack items with what looks like food residue in them. We tried switching from the liquid to powder detergent as the manual recommends, but that didn't help at all.
