Pros: Highly Compatible. Cheap. Very convenient. Cons: Must have remote for fast forward.
I picked this up at Walmart. I bought it primarily because of the price, and because it was APEX. I've always been happy with the amount of features that Apex dvd players offered, and was glad that they made a portable player (so I knew *all* my dvd's ...
Pros: Lots of features, fast loading, lots of accessories Cons: Dimentionally large, requires remote for simple functions, heavy battery with relatively low life
I was a little skeptical about this unit due to the smaller screen size (5") and low price. Also, the Apex name brand isn't one that has won many accolades in the past. I purchased this unit because of a long car drive that my family was planning and ...
Pros: cheap and decent...easy to operate...expanded widescreen...good headphone speakers...can't complain for $60! Cons: battery is clunky and unit seems delicate. can't find more batteries...average resolution...tiny screen
Walmart had this on clearance for $60--so what the heck, right? It's really a pretty good little unit, especially for the price. The screen is OK, not the best resolution, but OK for the uses I plan for this player. The credit card remote is pretty ...
Pros: The dvd player played everything, from mp3, cds, dvd, dvd-r backups, and more. Cons: The customer service in being able to order replacement parts is horrible.
I have always loved the Apex electronic products. I have a TV and a DVD player that are Apex. So last Thanksgiving, when they had the PD-450 for sale for $140 - I felt confident in knowing what I was getting. It worked good on my trip to Brazil that ...
Pros: Cheap. Cons: Battery packs, Car charges, Constant need of remote.
I purchased five of these portable DVD players from Walmart for my five children for Christmas. The day after Christmas, I was in the return line at Walmart because one of the five didn't work at all. Upon even exchange, all five seemed to work fine. ...
Pros: Nice picture. Can connect to anything. Cons: BAD batteries. Don't lose remote. DVD door may not stay shut.
I bought this DVD player because the local Wal-mart had it on clearance for $119.00 and I got the last one. Boy, was I disappointed when we took a trip the next day after I had charged the battery up overnight and the player cut off after only 35 ...
I bought the DVD player for my kids 3& 8. They love it. It's small and easy to tote around. It's easy for them to use because it doesn't have a lot of features. The picture quality is decent but I wasn't expecting a lot for $125. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an inexpensive portable DVD player.
Pros: Price Price Price Cons: Grainy Screen -- but for $140...
Wow, bought the unit for a long trip in the car with the kids and did it ever do the job. I don't think it skipped once in the 1,000+ miles of use.
The picture on the unit itself was a little grainy, but what do you expect for $140 -- besides, we plugged it into a little 9" TV so both the kids could watch and that picture was very crisp.
Pros: Price, features. Cons: Lack of controls on the unit.
Wal-mart has this unit for $139. At this price, I thought as long as it works, I can't go wrong. The unit is sturdy, and feature packed. It has composite and S-video output, so the options for use as a regular DVD player are better then most in this price range. Also, Dolby digital output is a bonus.
After using this unit for a couple days, the only read drawbacks I could find are the lack of chapter forward, reverse and FF, RV on the unit. For these functions, the remote control must be used. This is a bit strange, but once again, at this price, hard to complain about. All in all, it is worth the money.
Pros: Price--Bought the unit for $99.00 at Walmart with all accessories included. Cons: More controls on actual unit, not remote control. Picture quality and sound "so-so."
This is a great gift for kids. The price is so reasonable that you may not have a TOTAL heart attack if something happens to the unit. My daughter wanted a VIDEO NOW player for her 10th birthday, but I felt with the price of PVDs for the unit, this Apex product was more cost effective. Also, we already have many DVDs, and you can play CDs on the unit. You can't do that with a VIDEO NOW. I am happy with my decision.
Pros: makes long car rides with kids bearable Cons: battery life, as previous reviewers pointed out: DON'T LOSE THE REMOTE or you're scr***d
Best feature for me is compatibility with mpeg files burned to data dvd (disc don't have to be formatted for video dvd/cd). I record shows with the video capture card on my computer and burn them to dvd for later viewing on the apex. Because I use it mostly to watch recorded tv, having the 5" screen in 4:3 aspect ratio is better than a 7" screen in 16:9. Image quality is adequate for how I use it, this is only for the kids on long car rides or myself on plane trips, if I cared about image quality that much I would break out the laptop. Build quality seems decent, so far hasn't had a problem reading anything I've thrown at it.
Pros: Small, very portable; easy to use. Cons: Need more controls on player; player quit working after one trip.
I bought this unit for a long car trip, to keep the kids occupied. The quality of the picture was fine, and the sound was OK -- much better with headphones. My kids (7 & 9 years old) could operate it without any problems. Worked wonderful for the entire trip. A bonus was that we could hook it up to the TV in the condo where we were staying and watch DVDs on the TV. That was in July 2004. We did not use it again until our car trip at Thanksgiving 2004 and the player basically stopped part way through a movie. Wouldn't do anything. Just froze up. Ever since then, we have been able to watch a part of a movie and after about 20 minutes, it begins to stutter and then just freeze up. Won't come back on. When we load a DVD, it just spins and eventually says "no disc."
So even though it was wonderful when we got it, I certainly expected to be able to use it for more than one trip and that has not turned out to be the case.
this player is a piece of trash!!!!!!! by dremassa66 ,Jul 19 '04
Pros: THERE ARE NO PROS TO A BROKEN DVD PLAYER Cons: IT BROKE WITH 4 DAYS USE
Whatever you do DO NOT BUY THIS PLAYER! At first it seemed a very good deal for my money, but 4 days after I had bought it, The screen burnt out. I had to leave for a trip for the next day, so I couldn't get another one. It is VERY UNRELIABLE.

Pros: Cheap price Cons: Battery won't last
I bought this Apex DVD player because of the price . After 1 month the battery would not take a charge .I had to get an RMA number & I sent it in under warranty . It has now been over 4 months & I still don't have a battery . They have 1 number to call , so you always get the same person . I have made 7 phone calls and I have been lied to everytime . The last one he said I would have the battery by July 2nd , 2005 . That came & went still no battery . You better hope you never have to send any part of yours in or you are in for a long wait . I don't know if you'll ever get it back .
