Not as bad as the reviews say
by mikeygreenie ,Dec 06 '04
Pros: price, included accessories, function Cons: Speakers, large battery, easy wear
Indeed. A $200 Portable DVD player, what do you expect. But it has been the only one on the market for that cheap with a 6.5" monitor. The speakers are pretty poor. BUT how many times have you listened to a Portable DVD player w/out headphones. Personally I only use it on planes and during school and I dont want the world hearing what I have. it is good, i highly recommend it!

Horrible sound with earphones
by volcano37 ,Jun 20 '04
Pros: The player is easy to use. Never had any problems with the use of it. Cons: The sound is horrible.
I have had more of a headache than anything with this player. I had another brand once that worked great on planes (my reason for owning one of these) and I could hear great. With this player, all I do is hold my hands to my ears and keep rewinding because of missed words and sentences. I end up with sore ears because I keep trying to jam the earphones deeper in my ears. The sound without the earphones is of decent quality, but that is now how I listen to it on a plane. I have tried to contact Apex and got no response.

Stinker DVD player
by collardtd ,Jun 14 '04
Pros: easy to use; intuitive controls. Cons: 90-day p/l warranty; cheap, poor repair support. Remote control never worked.
Bought for use in travel; after about 15 hrs of use, audio developed unbearable static noise; sent to factory for repairs (out of warranty) for $80. Product returned repaired, then AC adapter and battery failed; now product can now only be used in car. I will never buy an APEX product again, and you shouldn't either.

A Good Bargain, But Not Much More
by electropigeon ,Jan 01 '04
Pros: Hook it up to any TV, good price. Cons: Screens color is poor, difficult to see in sunlight.
This unit drew a lot of attention for being one of the lowest priced units on the market for portable DVD's. While the unit does the job, there are certainly limitations.
For one, the LCD screen tends to give a washed out picture when compared to some of the other units, and it is difficult to see in the sun. While some units are a higher price, they also have a sturdier feel to them. This unit has a rather flimsy feel to its door mechanisms and screen, and its battery pack tends to be cumbersome.
Some nice features include the ability to plug it into a TV to watch it on a full sized TV, and its double purpose as a Walkman (including MP3 technology) will make it a killer gift for teenagers.
It is a great unit for a one time road trip (unless you're headed to beaches, ski slopes or sunny climates) or for anyone under 18. But if you are a heavy duty business traveler you may want to invest in a higher end unit, or even go all out for a DVD player that can work on a laptop.
