Unbelievable! Until next month!

by funkyfc , Nov 27 '03
Pros: Speed and non-existent noise.
Cons: Expensive. Programs not optimized for G5 yet. Only one optical drive.
I have been an Apple fan my entire life. I bought an Apple IIc when I was a kid and have used an Apple my entire life (except for that brief college experiment with the PC). Currently, I have the last beige tower G3 and a new ...

KILLER Computer (Technical Review)

by man4mac , Jan 02 '05
Pros: Fast, Good Archetecture, Designed Carefully
Cons: None
This is the mother of all computers. Apple has pushed the limits of the computer industry again. The PowerPC G5 is a new 64bit processor produced by IBM. Becuase of the upgrade in processor from 32bit to 64bit many things about this computer were ...

G5 is the best desktop ever made

by smijolovic , Jul 17 '04
Pros: Everything! Speed, cooling, Unix based OS on a desktop platform

As a system administrator and a storage engineer, I have seen just about every platform on the market. Every platform has it's purpose.....so you won't hear me bash any OS or system here. This is just a way to give users of all OSes and hardware ...

"I have come home..."
by bslbarnes ,Feb 08 '04
Pros: superdrive,OS10.3/Unix,super super quiet, great apps,a completely polished machine, an Auston Martin DB7 of Pc's
Cons: 1 superdrive, super expensive machine, and you still have to get apps
I am a visual communications grad who worked on Mac's all through college to come out and use windows based machines in the real world. Well I have a killer dual 1.6 AMD machine with dual 17's but every other day I am trouble shooting the OS (windows xp). I feel like I am so use to troubleshooting there OS...hell, they need to just mail me a MCP certification (Microsoft Certified Professional) for my trouble. Well I was blessed enough, not to long ago, to get a dual 1.8 G5, THX 5.1 & an amazing 23" HD display...and all I have to say is "I am in love again". I spend more time working on creatives then troubleshooting my OS and software that it doesn’t like. Thank you Apple...I have come home. You want to learn how to be a technician...buy a Windows based PC. You wanna actually ENJOY computing and get your work done ahead of schedule...get a Mac! "bslb"

What can I say... It is a MAC!!!
by carvava ,Nov 24 '04
Pros: Everything!!!!
Cons: Price.. A little much.. But worth it!!!
My company has three of these fantastic machines. I was a Windows user until I switched.

As for the G5...
The speed is awesome. I have no waiting for the machine to do anything. The rendering of graphics is so quick, I do not have time to stare into space. I cannot say the same for by brand new 3Ghx XP system.... BOOOOOO!

I love the fact that the airflow in the G5 keeps it cool and so quiet. My new PC is still kind of noisy.

Also, the style and design of the G5 is great. It is a vast improvement over the G4 and especially the G3, The strength of the case and the ease to open it. I also like the removable part inside. They slide in and out with ease.

The color quality displayed on my LCD is great. Along with the color quality is the fantastic 3D displays from Photo Shop and DVDs.

I cannot say enough... Glad I switched!!!!!

Very powerful machine. Push it to it's limits.
by howieandmegan ,Nov 12 '03
Pros: Great speed, great software, great value if you use all of the software.
Cons: Takes time to get used to OS X.
I'm a long-time Mac user. My last Mac was a PowerMac 7500/100 which is still running after eight years. We decided on this model because it has the middle processor speed and it has the better PCI slots. We're using it for home use, so it didn't need to be a workhorse.

The first thing I noticed about the machine is that it handles multi-processing much better than any previous Mac. I started four large processes back-to-back then surfed the net while it worked. It handled them like a champ and didn't slow me down on the web.

The OS X software is very broad. It covers a large area of our interests. We downloaded all of our audio CDs onto the hard drive to play through iTunes. We use iMovie and iDVD with our camcorder. We use the Address Book and iCal to keep us organized and a .Mac account to keep it all together.

I find this machine to be extremely hard-working and the included software is unbeatable.
