Pros: G5 speed, screen size, easier upgradability. Cons: Built-in speakers could be better.
I've been using a flat-panel iMac since the 17 inch G4 model came out 2 years ago, and was starting to get a bit frustrated with the screen size & mediocre CPU speed, so when the new G5 iMacs were announced I knew I'd be upgrading. I placed an order at ...
Pros: Great looks, runs well, flys on the 'net. Cons: Standard memory is not enough.
The iMac G5 is my third Mac computer. I suppose one of the frustrations of owning a Macintosh is that the things rarely play up (I have never had a service call on any Macintosh computer yet), and the only reason that I have ever had to update is because ...
Pros: Literally flawless. Wouldn't hesitate to buy more of these. Cons: Trivial sound port placement. Retarded keyboard design.
I took delivery of five identical 20" iMac G5s, 1.8GHZ and Superdrive. The only change from spec was to add 1GB to each machine. Since the intended user for the 5th machine left the company right before delivery, I had no choice but to take it as my work ...
Pros: Sleek, stylish, fast, gorgeous. Great apple ease of use. Cons: video card. 256 MB of RAM makes a horrible first impression. Bluetooth not amazing.
My 400 MHz Sawtooth G4 was nearing the end of it's life as a professional machine. It got to the point where I was procrastinating editing video projects or updating my portfolio and website. Some of this was due to it's aging specs and some was due to ...
Pros: Sleek, clean and uncluttered, very fast and friendly Cons: Need a mouse with a scroll wheel.
I just converted from a PC based world to a new iMAC G5 and I'm never going back. I won't go into all the detail already discussed in the previous 2 reviews but I will say that it is worth the extra money to go for a MAC. I love its utter simplicity ...
Pros: Nice looking, excellent software, no cable mess, no adware/spyware/virus epidemic Cons: Warranty service is unacceptable
For five months, this machine had been everything Apple claimed it was: Elegant, powerful, stable, and beautiful. Free of spyware/adware and viruses. Recently, the machine developed a serious video problem that rendered it completely useless. I ...
Pros: Very reliable, stable & fast. Great hardware design... and of course great looks! Cons: Not a machine for hardcore-gamers!
I've (very intensively) used the iMac G5 for over six months now... and I just love it. I can't help it, I really do. As a graphic designer I ask a lot from any computer I work with. Most of of all I want a computer to be stable: it should perform any ...
Pros: Reliable, fast, excellent screen and no virus problems! Cons: None for what I purchased the machine for.
I've had my iMac G5 20" computer for well over a year now and have experienced zero downtime with the machine. In addition I've experienced only a single crash, due to an errant program, and no viruses or other problems. Granted, this is not my first ...
Pros: Regained a lot of deskspace! Strong Unix based OS. Cons: You must add more memory to your order (512MB-1024GB)
This is my first Macintosh computer. I switched from Windows XP and could not be happier. We bought the 20" model with 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD. I was concerned about software before I bought it but did my research and found everything I would need. ...
Best computer value, We love this computer! by dhutch ,Feb 28 '05
Pros: Easy set-up, fun to use, rock solid operating system, beautiful form factor and display Cons: Monitor can't be used as a monitor with aptop or Mini
Purchased directly form Apple in November 2004, this Imac G5 1.8 with 1 GB RAM and wireless keyboard & mouse has been totally trouble-free. The Airport Express was easy to install and add to my small DSL-connected network. It comes with the best "free" software available, although just as with Window's-based your additional programs and peripherals can easily cost more than the computer. I work on PC's but would never buy one with my own money.
Pros: Easy to use, great for making DVDs from home movies. Cons: Poor service support.
Bought the iMac G5 on 10-14-04 after using HP PC for 8 years. New computer to be used primarily to convert VHS to DVD. Screen went crazy 2-20-05 and died. Delivered to repair center on 2-2 and was told it would be repaired (hopefully) in 3-5 days. On 3-1, I called store and was told that the repair part was back ordered by Apple. On 3-4, same story. Went to store on 3-7 and was told part had just arrived. Tech installed MidPlane Assembly and had it ready in less than 2 hours. Tech said they are having many problems with MidPlane Assembly. Have since learned of numerous problems with this computer. Store blamed Apple.
Least reliable Mac I've ever owned by barganhunter ,Jan 04 '05
Pros: Styling, easy of RAM removal!!!, Apple online Help (a Con??) their were helpful though. Cons: Reliability - worst Mac I've even owned (LC2, & all inbetween, Powerbook G4 17")
Recently got My iMac 20 inch 2Gb ram (pre installed) after 3 MONTH wait (yes 3 months). I got it out of the box & started it up. I was impressed "connect your old mac" I did this and ran my familiar looking desk top for all of 12 minutes. Screen blackened from top & told me to restart my Computer.
Now 6 months further with this ongoing Sagga no amount of repairs hhas fixed this dud!!! Shame on Mac - I used to realy support them (Have owned 16 + in the Past - but this one makes me want to switch roll on Bill Gates)
Great buy, all in one computer, super value! by yoshidums ,Mar 17 '05
Pros: Just one cord (for power), thanks to optional Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Cons: Can't upgrade graphics. Built-in speakers don't deliver much bass.
Ease of set-up and use cannot be beat. It's quick and capable, and the superdrive is a great option. The built in software is great. 100% uptime, no downtime. Screen is quite attractive and can display significant amounts of data. Machine at work integrated easily into windows environment. Got one for home as well as work. Bought both at applemacshops.com. You will not regret the purchase.
Beautiful and Totally Unreliable by ukphotographer ,Nov 11 '05
Pros: Looks nice and seems to have plenty of bang for buck Cons: Cheap and cheerful Don't buy if you rely on your computer for a living
Waited two weeks for a New G5 Imac to replace my existing Powerbook. When it arrived looked beautiful and the transfer of my old software and documents went like a dream. But when I started using the machine it started crashing all the time; decided this was just a glich and reinialized the hard drive and did a total system reinstall. This did not solve the problem and despite running the disk utlity and disk first aid it was still crashing.
I'm now unable to start the machine up and unable to start up from the supplied system software disks as a CD is now stuck in the drive bay and refuses to eject. Apple support have tried diagnosing the fixing the problem but unfortunately been unsuccessful. I have now to take the machine to a service centre and possibly lost several days work along with all the hassle
Recommend that anyone considering doing serious work buys a Powermac instead as I think the internal components for this machine are cheap and cheerful despite the fact the machine looks great.
Very disillusioned and wish I'd bought a Powermac instead of the IMac G5!
Pros: The pros are the price, the large hard drive, and the Operating System. Cons: I guess the con is that it doesn't contain an Intel Chip.
This computer is amazingly stylish and practical at the same time. It delivers a wide range of abilities, from things as complicated as iLife to things as simple as Dashboard. It is complemented by its amazing Operating System. It has a bright screen and comes with a keyboard that needs not be replaced. This computer gives you everything a family or student could need for a great price. Tech support is excellent and helps you every bit of the way.
