Very good, few flaws
by asulca593 ,Dec 29 '05
Pros: Durable, battery still holds up relatively well. Extremely easy to use.
Cons: Cheap earbuds. Otherwise, no complaints...
Overall great. Had mine for 2 years. Scratches easily, but thats what the plastic covers are sold for. Had to toss the ear buds after about 6 months because they fell apart. It was expensive at the time, but I got mine around their infancy and anything will be expensive when it first comes out.

All hail the great iPod
by csifreak ,Jan 01 '05
Pros: Big hard drive, great device, thin, the King of all MP3 players.
Cons: None.
I recentally bought an iPod (10GB 3G) off of Ebay for just $250 (CDN). I was thrilled with the deal that i had gotten. I love my iPod but however EVERY product has its pros and its cons. With the iPod it has a far superior memory capacity than any other MP3 player. I don't think that the price is that outrageous compared to some other MP3 players, like for example I recentally saw a Sony MP3 player at Best Buy (1.5 GB) for about $200 ! Now that is outrageous. But if you are just starting out and trying out MP3 players the Apple iPod is not for you. I find that it also helps alot if you have an IEEE-1394 port the transfers go alot faster than USB 2.0. Also for anybody out there that worries alot about battery life you can get iPod battery extneders/chargers witch use "AA" batteries to charge up the iPod. Another thing that I strongly urge all people to do is when you buy one do yourself a favor and always keep it in a case when you are going out.

A Great Used Buy!
by zwall ,Nov 04 '04
Pros: Everything, especially size.
Cons: None come to mind...
The Ipod is a great little gadget that you shouldn't live without. I'd been eyeing them for a while but the price was always to high. Then one day in August, I saw an open box model at Circuit city. I talked them down to $185.00 as a sale price. It's been one of my best purchases ever. Easy to use, I was initially displeased at having to switch all my music to iTunes, but found the program to be very easy to navigate, and loaded with extra features. Downloading songs to the iPod was a cinch, and took about 2 minutes for my 1200 songs. I still have more than half of the HD space left on the thing! Battery life is about 6 hours with moderate use of backlight. I've never run it down, except for when I tested the battery life. If you find a clean used one for cheap...buy it! =)

iPod -- great, but not perfect
by manheim ,May 22 '04
Pros: Sleek, sexy, easy to use.
Cons: Expensive, battery life is ADEQUATE yet lower than competitors.
Being slightly more expensive than other HD mp3 players on the market, the iPod is based on sleek simplicity.

It has no distinct advantages other than its sexy look and ease of use. The interface is intuitive, and anyone could get the hang of it in seconds.

On that note, there is nothing outright wrong with the iPod. Some will say the battery life is a negative. I'd say this is up to YOU and YOU alone to decide -- make an informed decision. You may have heard stories of the battery dying off at 18 months, this is not true. www.ipodbatteryfaq.com answers all your questions about the battery, and puts any myths to rest. Claimed battery life is 8 hours, but you'll find it'll last 6.

This battery life however is more than enough, unless you're undergoing long plane trips/car trips back and forth from work or something.

Great piece of electronics
by dakinemon ,Apr 09 '04
Pros: Light, small, large storage space, INDEXING
Cons: Battery life, price
This is definitely the best MP3 player I have ever owned. Besides looking like it comes from the future (with the flat-paneled interface on the front), it is probably has the best indexing and user interface I can imagine.

Battery:
I have brought this iPod on 2 trips to California and New York, as well as the gym on a consistent basis. As you probably already know, the 10 hour battery life that apple claims to have on the iPod is a load of crap. I have had the battery last between 3 and 4 hours.

Indexing:
The indexing is probably the most important feature of the iPod. With 10gb of music (or more), you have to have a system that you can sort your music with. The iPod does this. The only problem is going through all of your old songs and setting up the ID3 tags to be correct, it takes a few days.

Sound Quality:
The iPod sounds magnificent. Playing the same song on a different MP3 player and comparing it to the iPod, the iPod's has much more well-defined high frequencies, as well as tighter bass.

Indispenseible MPr player
by jennka ,Mar 14 '04
Pros: Hours and hours and hours of music
Cons: Touch buttons make it hard to turn off, the white cord gets grey pretty quickly.
I wanted one. Badly. I wanted it for the gym and for walking. I didn't realize how invaluable it would be for work. I plug it in to my PCU (remove the cord from your speakers and insert your iPod cord in place. Now I listen to random tunes (or specific artists) all day long. The best example of where it made a huge difference in my day--I get to work one morning in late October '03. My husband sends me a text message about the death of Elliott Smith. This was such a huge shock, but I was able to pay homage by having an impromptu Elliott Smith festival all day.

One of the best products ever!
by bandy1080 ,Feb 20 '04
Pros: Sleek, easy to use, great backlight
Cons: If you own a PC you have to buy extra cable to use USB
I was always skeptical about purchasing an MP3 player, I was convinced that they were over priced and easily broken. Apple definitely broke those assumptions when they came out with the IPod. I bought the second generation ipod and was extremely happy with it. It was so simple to use, it was very sleek, and had plenty of storage space. I bought the 10GB one which has more than enough storage space for me. The connection to my computer was very simple (I thought that it would be tough since I had a PC) The only problem that I encountered was that I did not have a firewire and needed to use the USB connection. This required me to order an extra cable offline or go to an apple store ($20 for the cable) Other than that I have been completely satisfied with my purchase. It seems like apple thought of everything when it came to the ipod. A+++

Mostly a let down
by bklynmuffin ,Jan 05 '04
Pros: Cute design, fun to play with, easy to use (if on a mac)
Cons: Battery bites, earbuds hurt, poor overall value
Though a devout Mac user, I'm disappointed in the ipod. I'd expect a better product for what you pay.

The biggest problem is the poor battery life; if you use it both ways on the subway and during a workout, you have to charge it every other day at least. Very inconvenient.

The trademark white earbuds are very uncomfortable for me and are actually painful after about a half hour.

Also, the accessories are expensive, so remember to consider those costs when you purchase (not to mention the inevitable $100 battery replacement).

Though the design is great and it's a lot of fun to play with, the ipod is more expensive than it's worth. Not a great deal -- I wish I had waited until they improve the battery, at least.

IPOD is cool, scroll pad was challenging for me
by PaisleyPea ,Jan 02 '04
Pros: Holds more songs than I know.
Cons: Extra stuff needed. Battery is 100$ to replace.
I got my IPOD for Christmas. Like many of the other users I didn't know you would have to make an extra trip to 2 stores to get Firewire, mine was 30$. You might as well spend the extra 100$ for a 20GB and get the carrying case, dock, etc. I have to say once I got it all figured out, I love listening to this thing. I know I need to go and read all the directions to figure out playlists and stuff. Otherwise, I really like my new toy.
I came across this article this morning.

GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!
by brakel ,Jan 02 '04
Pros: EVERYTHING
Cons: Battery could last longer, main light is getting dimmer, scratches easily.
This is the best mp3 player in my opinion. I would have the bigger one but i dont need that much space and its too exspensive. This thing doesnt skip on me at all I have ran with it and it it doesnt heavy down your pocket or skip. You can now buy a usb2 cable and fm tuner for it. It has great quality. IUts not scratchy at all it sounds better than a cd and weighs less than a cd player. this thing is very portable and works great and has very little matinence. I love mine and have had no trouble except two things. the lights are starting to get lighter and arent as bright as a new one. The battery could last longer but I think its fine for it's size. OVERALL THIS IS RECOMMENDED! If you want to protect the screen from scratching buy some pda screen covers and cut them to the size of the ipd's screen and put it on it works great.

Great Buy
by eewt ,Dec 26 '03
Pros: The look is great, as is the "cool" efect.
Cons: Does not comunicate with PC well, Price is steep, lost all songs twice.
I just love my ipod. Bought on ebay for 240. I have now seen them for buy it now for 180. Still, compared to the competition their prices are a little steep. But the geek effect is funaminal (When I say geek I mean it in a posative light). The sleekness is great also. You will need a special program for PC though, or use some stupid program , not sure what its called. Ephpod is great for comunicating with the Ipod. Also, twice a lost all my songs for no aprent reason.

Apple screws up
by fxcarden ,Dec 26 '03
Pros: Sleek look
Cons: Battery is not replaceable.
I bought an iPOD and loved it at first. I was pleased with the sound, and the management software. I used this toy every chance I could, and was pleased with it until....the management software started freezing up....the only way out of it was to let the battery drain out, and then recharge it. This accelerated the demise of the battery (they only hold so many charges). When the battery died, is when my admiration for this product when down the toilet as I found out the battery cannot be replaced, and Apple actually expects you to buy a new iPOD. If this was 5 to 7 years down the road, one could understand, but my iPOD was about 18 months old. In my opinion, this is totally unacceptable, and I hope someone finds the time to file a suit of some kind against Apple for bringing this disaster to market. As for me, I have retired the iPOD, and moved on to something else. I am sure many of you will do the same when your time comes.

Why the iPod scraps the NetMD
by theanimaster ,Sep 25 '03
Pros: support for 320kbps MP3, MP3 VBR, AAC (MP4), WAV, AIFF, and AUDIBLE sound format.
Cons: Battery Life. Only for cool people. Doesn't contact aliens.
The iPod is the best MP3 Player in the world. Data Storage. Ease of Use. Wow factor. It's by Apple. Can be configured to work on both PC and MAC... as well as older legacy Macs.
